  1. I'd speculate that the big reason that Blais left is that he was virtually guarantees a year off (NHL Lockout) with the pay of a head coach. It allowed him to spend a lot of time with his ailing wife. Blais was hired by Columbus as an associate head coach and was initially given a lot of assurances that he was going to be the next head coach in Columbus and was also paid as a head coach. When the new GM came into Columbus he cleaned house and was stuck with a scout (blais) making upwards of $300,000.

I know for a fact that the part of coaching that Blais enjoys is player development and he didn't get to do much of that at the NHL level. From what I've heard, he really likes working with young, kids who want to learn. He's very loves the fact that he is getting to build a team from scratch, and if you haven't been paying attention, he has a expansion team battling for home ice. He's also getting paid like a top end Div 1 coach so it's not going to be a money issue.

He's also expressed his interest in developing Fargo into a hockey first town. Now I'll admit he's got a long way to go, but if anyone can do it is Blais. He's also really trying to have an impact on the development of youth hockey in Fargo. He's become the face of Fargo hockey in a short period of time. The kids really think it is cool if Blais, or any of his Force players are around the rink (indoor or out). It has a way to go, but having Blais and the Force is going to positively impact hockey in Fargo.

That's not speculation, that is in fact the reason he left.

  2. So when a former Gopher does well in the NHL it's in spite of Lucia's coaching? You are so biased sometimes it's embarrassing. You're the equivelent of Sean Hannity. Just like he is completely incapable of being objective about the left, you are just as incapable of being objective about the Gophers. Wheeler had a very productive three years at the U. Maybe not what you would expect of a fifth overall draft pick but Lucia can't control where he was drafted. The bottom line is that the three years Wheeler spent at the U clearly served him well as he is now thriving as a rookie in the NHL. You making this claim is no different than me saying Drew Stafford blossomed in spite of Blais and Hakstol. It just makes no sense.

If Goon is like Sean Hannity, then I would say you are like Ed Schultz. :D

  3. I agree, he's a great coach and i have tons of respect for the guy, I could definately see Dean Blais coming back to college hockey and why would he go to a weak D-1 school, like a UAA, MT, UNO?

    http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2007/02/15_report.php

A source close to the situation said that while Blais is expected to be the coach of the new Fargo-Moorhead franchise, he will keep his options open in case an attractive college coaching job opens.

Blais said on a Fargo radio show recently that he would definitely be interested in returning to coaching college hockey if the right job becomes available.

It looks like Blais is using the Fargo force job to get back into college hockey. He used to be an assistant coach at UM, but I agree with you that Lucia will be there for a while.

I say give him his old job back. :D

  4. Here's my prediction for this week's USCHO bracketology

    Northeast (Manchester)

    1 BU v 4 RIT

    3 NH (h) v 2 Den

    Midwest (Grand Rapids)

    1 Mich v 4 BSU/Niagara

    3 Princeton v 2 Miami

    East (Bridgeport)

    1 Northeastern v 4 UMD

    3 UND v 2 Yale (h)

    West (Mlps)

    1 Vermont v 4 UMTC (h)

    3 Cornell v 2 Notre Dame

re: my previous post about UND going to Mlps - this week's Btogly shows how avoiding 1st round conf match ups can shake up the natural bracket. Cornell had to flip with UND to avoid a 1st round game with Yale. Otherwise we were pegged for Mlps.

This is why it will be hard to predict a regional destination for the Sioux.

You nailed it! I like our chances.....

  5. may be a punk to you but he may play harder than any player in the league every night. not only does he score like crazy but you will lay you out without thinking about it as well. most exciting and feared player in the nhl. he gives the nhl some flare which is BADLY needed. bettman must step down! he blows

I wasn't referring to his ability or work ethic. Hopefully people don't think he is the face of the NHL. Flair...yes, Class...no. I do agree with you on Bettman, he is killing the NHL.

  6. You are right it doesn't literally say "12+" grams. I took the liberty of multiplying 2 (packages) times (greater than) 6 (grams). It's not really clear that the 2 or more packages combined are more than 6 grams, or if 2 or more packages each weigh 6+ grams. The liberties I took with my math were hardly the same liberties taken when a thead is started saying that Dubay was arrested for meth, when the arrest record clearly states that he was in possession of meth precursors.

Being naive about meth, and all other drugs, I thought 12 grams was a lot of anything to be carrying around. After a little googleing, I've come to learn that 12 grams is only worth about $1000- $1200. Still seems like a lot though.

Meth is a huge problem and the police should be able to do whatever (with in reason of course) it takes to get it off of the streets. However, if it turns out that Dubay was arrested for possession of Sudafed, and he has no other record of meth use, I hope that he finds a good lawyer and sticks it to the city of Plymouth. If it turns out Puffy is doing meth, I hope he gets the help he needs. IMO he's too fat and his teeth are too nice to being doing meth though.

I guess I'm a little sensitive to this for a couple of reasons. One of them, this reminds me of the Oshie elevator incident. Everyone was pretty quick to throw TJ under the bus before any of the facts were available. His case ended up getting dropped. Another reason this bugs me; way back when I was in high school, 15+ years ago, I got into a little trouble. Charged with a misdemeanor. Nothing more than a couple of friends getting a little bit too intoxicated, and getting caught doing a little vandalism. A couple of years ago I find out that one of my friends (who I went to hs with) thought that I was convicted with a felony resulting from the incident, and he's been telling all of our mutual friends for the last 15+ years that I was a convicted felon.

    Agree, innocent until proven guilty.

  7. Crap like this post really pi$$es me off. If you would have read the WHOLE report, and not just obviously skimmed through it, you would have read that he was "busted" with a methamphetamine PRECURSOR. NOT actually meth.

Being busted with 12+ grams of whatever, should have clued you in that it probably wasn't meth.

Congratulations on being the one to start the thread though (at least in the "Men's Hockey" section, Ray77 scooped you by 160 minutes, but posted in the "community" section)!

It doesn't say 12 + grams, maybe you should read it again. It says "Sale More Than 2 Packages or Greater Than 6 Grams Methamphetamine Precursor Drugs"

But I am curious, why should it have clued us in that it wasn't meth if it was greater than 12+ grams?

  8. I would rather have a season championship and a tourney championship, more than UND's participation banner.

You know what you can do with those little banners. The Sioux are trying to win National Championships, and you can't win one without going to the Frozen Four. Are the girls dying their hair again this year??

  9. I don't want to start anything either. As long as your last game is a loss, it's all the same.

That's the problem with the underachievers in the Twin Cities, its all the same to them. I guess thats a good way of thinking when you lose alot and don't make it far. Your last game this year will be next weekend.

  10. Under this scenario, they wouldn't send UND to Madison because Wisconsin would be the highest #4 seed plus they would be playing at home. If they did, they would be giving the top overall seed the toughest first round matchup.

I think our best chance of avoiding Madison and Colorado Springs is to somehow hold on to the #1 spot in the PWR.

    Makes sense, thanks.

  11. My guess at the ncaa brackets

    Albany

    4) Army(AHA) vs. 1) UND (WCHA)

    3) Mankato vs. 2) Clarkson (ECAC)

    Colorado Springs

    4)Bemidji St (CHA) vs. 1)CC

    3)BC vs. 2)Denver

    Madison

    4) Wisconsin vs. 1)Michigan (CCHA)

    3) Minnesota vs. 2) Michigan St

    Worchester

    4) Minn-Duluth vs. 1) New Hampshire (HEA)

    3) St. Cloud St. vs. 2) Miami (OH)

    What do you think?

Wouldn't UND be in Madison since they are now the overall #1 and would get the closest regional?

  12. Bally's is not in Las Vegas, it is in Paradise Township. None of the Strip hotels, except for the Stratosphere, are in Las Vegas.

Hermit, crawl back in your hole. Thanks for the info fargosioux!
