  1. I recently got this message from a member of the Sioux Hockey group on Yahoo! I thought someone on this board would be able to help considering that you are all avid Sioux hockey followers and probably know a lot more about the history of the team than I do. Sadly, I have only been an avid fan for a little more than six years.

    The gentleman writes....

"I'm an avid genealogist and discovering a distant relative who played

for UND briefly, a goalie out of Grand Forks. His parents were Joseph

Borovsky and Martha Nienas (I'm related by marriage to the Nienas)

Bill was 20 when he was killed in a car crash Oct 2, 1956. Reading

the newspaper articles about it it sounds like it was alcohol

related, the truck driver hit Bill while he was stopped at a train

crossing and pushed him into the train, and they said the cab of the

truck was full of beer bottles. What a waste, a young man like that.

And back in those days, I doubt there was ever any criminal charges

against this killer. Anyway, I have picture of JJ and Martha but

would love to have a picture of Bill, especially if there's one in

his hockey gear for the Sioux."

Anyone have any ideas on where I could locate old photos? Maybe the Grand Forks Public Library? Your help would be much appreciated. Thank You!

  2. Keep in mind that I am not crazy! LOL! I created a Sioux Hockey Group a while back (http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/siouxhockeyonline/). I have pics of Zach and the team posted in the photos section. The only thing is, you have to join the group in order to see the pics. If you don't want to do that, you can always go to Yahoo! or Google images and do a search.

If you think the Zach website is scary, check this one out:

  3. I have been trying to figure out his helmet for a while. Since he has an ND (North Dakota) at the top of his helmet, I am guessing that the "W" stands for Waterloo. I love the 1/Parise/11 on the back of his helmet. I noticed that Jake also has a new helmet this year. Any idea what is on his helmet? Just wondering.

  4. I really didn't want to Gophers to win because they are WAY too cocky! After the game, I could see their heads getting bigger as they put on their National Championship caps. I had a feeling that they were going to win, and I was not surprised that Vanek scored the gamewinner. Once again the Gophers needed a NON-MINNESOTAN to win a National Championship for them!

  5. I honestly thought that Jake should have played the rest of the game. He made a lot of really good saves. I really didn't blame him for any of the goals that went in. In my opinon, three of Ferris State's goals were caused by faulty moves by the defenseman. Jake really didn't have a chance on that breakaway goal. After Matt Greene fell down, I knew it was trouble. I have to admit that I was shocked when Blais pulled Jake and put Josh in. Jake looked pi$$ed! I wasn't happy with Josh when he let in a goal on five shots. Either way, the season is over. I am hoping Jake returns next year, because he is finally understanding what it takes to be a great goalie.

  6. That's awesome! I can't wait for Friday's game! I am really pumped! I know the team has what it takes to beat Ferris State. I wish it was on TV, but what are you going to do about it? At least we will get to see some of the game on FSN if they air it after Nascar.

  7. I wish Zach could stay forever! I think it would be great if he stayed all four years, and from an interview he did back in February, it sounds like he is planning on staying for the 2004/2005 season. The interview was about the World Junior Tournament. Zach made a comment somewhere along the lines of: I'm sure our fans will go, we'll probably be out of town, because we obviously can't play here." I don't remember his exact wording, but it went something like that. Let's cross our fingers and hope he stays for at least two more years!

  8. I'm sure everyone already knows what a great hockey season the Grand Forks Central Knights and Kasey Moreland have had this year. Earlier today I was reading an article about Kasey, and found some interesting stats. First, Kasey said that some of the strongest influences on his hockey career have been the UND and St. Cloud St. hockey teams. Second, Kasey finished his high school career with 369 saves, allowing only 16 goals his senior year. I think it would be great if coach Blais could get Kasey to commit to UND before he decides to follow in his brother's footsteps and play for St. Cloud St.

  9. I thought it was terrrible. I don't noramally yell and scream at games, but I really took it to those refs on Saturday night. Zach and Brandon were constantly being pushed, tripped, or tackled, and the refs didn't really seem to care. I thought they made a lot of unfair calls against us, and not enough calls on Denver.

  10. Jacques Lamoureux is a really good hockey player. His 8th grade brother Mario plays on the Varsity team. It sounds like Jacgues and Mario are planning to follow in Zach Parise's footprints. Jacques has stated that he and Mario might not be playing Central hockey next year. Instead, they are planning on going to Shattuck-St.Mary's Prep School in Faribault, MN. I thought that was an interesting piece of information, so I thought I would share it with you all.

    CENTRAL HOCKEY ROCKS!

  11. Did Zach get hurt during Satuday's game at Mankato? I didn't listen to the game on the radio, but I heard someone say that he was lying on the ice for a while. It doesn't sound like a penalty was called on Mankato. Would you guys mind filling me in? THANKS!
