Jamestown the #3 from the west beat Devils Lake, West Fargo, and tied North. Those are 4, 5, and 6................so the west can't be as horrible as you all say.
It's not that they are horrible, it's that the East always wins against the West. You have to give Jamestown credit for those wins, but until this last year, Jamestown was an Eastern Division team.

I also see Red River winning by a few goals, so I'll say 5-2 in that game. However, I think that south is going to get on the right track tonight with a 4-2 victory over grafton.
Any score updates?
-
why the hell wouldnt he
Internal problems with the team. Non conference game and wanted to make a statement.
-
South's goalie must have had a really bad game since he only had 20 shots. I think South is getting worse.
I heard that Wilson didn't play the first two lines, any truth too that?
-
South 2 Crookston 5
North 10 Whapaton 2
-
I saw a few on the tv, no real surprises:
Devils Lake 6 Wahpeton 1
Red River 9 West Fargo 1
Moorhead 3 Wayzata 0
I am still waiting for a North-Grafton update.
Grafton 8 North 2

Does anyone have update to grafton-red river game?
Does anyone have an update on the DL vs. North game?

If you believe that point totals tell you who is a better player, than you really don't know much about hockey. Point totals don't tell you the style of play of the team, the talent surrounding that player, the caliber of competition played against, whether that player is good defensively, how good that player is along the boards or on faceoffs, if the team rolls 4 lines, if that player gets most of his goals on the power play, etc. A case in point is Jon Toews for the Sioux. There are many players in the league that have more points this year, and virtually anyone with any hockey knowledge would not say that those players are better because they have more points. Look at his performance in the World Juniors. He simply doesn't have enough help around him at UND.
I am not ripping Eric Meland, who is a very talented player, but point totals tell only a small part of the story. It is clearly a matter of opinion, but I would take Zach Miller over him any day. If Klein was on South or RR, he would probably put up similar numbers. With all due respect to his teammates, Tyler Klein doesn't have enough help and it is easier for a good team to key on and shut down 1 or 2 players. Wurden is a defenseman, so its a little like comparing apples and oranges, but he appears to have a very bright future beyond high school. I'm really not sure that Eric Meland is as good or any better than Powers or McDougall from South or Tanner Hills and Tanner Anderson from Grafton.
"With all due respect to his teammates, Tyler Klein doesn't have enough help and it is easier for a good team to key on and shut down 1 or 2 players."
Your right, good players with good line mates can be a very powerful weapon. Klein not having enough help seems a bit of a stretch.
ND Pride what is your opinion, you seem to make it to a lot of North games. Is klein being shut down by having poor line mates?
-
Cmon now, how can you say that? The kid is averaging 3 points a game, leading the state in both goals and assists. He's the best player on the best line in the state, and you're putting Klein, Wurden and Miller ahead of him? You could put 2 JV players next to Meland and they would have 20-30 points. Wurden and Miller COMBINED don't have as many points as Meland does.
Meland and Wurden are definitely a couple of the best players in the state. It's going to be a great game watching these two battle it out. Miller is a very good player and is a huge reason Grafton has won their last 9 games. (Not to exclude Hills, Demers, and Sand) Klein has yet to impress anyone netting a whopping 4 goals this year in 12 games. Also, its not that Klein is making great passes and getting assists, he's taking poor shots and his line mates are picking up the trash. Placing Klein over Meland would be a joke.

I have to disagree, Look at the Norths, the west fargo's and the jamestowns of past years. These teams would have players that put 30+ points but if they were to have tried out for a team like south or Red River they may or may not have even made the team.
My point is 2nd or third line players on the RR or the Souths have less points than first line players on north or WF or James because those first line players play twice the minutes because they are on a poor team, even though they are weaker players than 2nd or third or even 4th line players on the top couple teams in the state.
So to say a player from north or Wf last year would have had more points if they had played on RR or South is a joke because I don't know is they would have even made RR or south.
I know this because we (RR) had players on 3rd and fourth lines that would have been starting for north wf james and all the weaker teams, and the case is the same this year.
South has problems every year with playing time. Wilson frequently rolls only two lines. I find it hard to believe that RR and South's 3rd and 4th lines would start for any one of these teams. (North, WF, Jamestown)
The puck isn't just falling into the net because some players are getting a little extra playing time. Zach Welding, Tanner Bombenger, Tyler Klein would make both RR and South's team and would easily be on the top two lines.
"I know this because we (RR) had players on 3rd and fourth lines that would have been starting for north wf james and all the weaker teams, and the case is the same this year." . . . The players on the third and fourth line would easily slide up to second and third at all three schools, (North, WF, Jamestown) but they wouldn't bump of any first line.

According to the Fargo Forum (which is not always right):
SAVES: GFRR, Arnason 3-5-6=14. FN, Zehren 9-11-30=50
I believe that sounds about right. Red River pretty much dominated the game.
50 is a lot. If that is correct, that is pretty impressive.

I heard you are wrong...at the game they said he had 14 saves...i would say he had more like 10-12...
If they said 14 at the game, how am I wrong?
-
Fargo Norths goalie had 33 saves, compared to 14 for RRs Pat Arnason.
I heard (20) to 14

The paper said it was 4-2 and that North scored the 4th goal with 21 seconds to go in the game. The shots were also even.
It was 5-2, the 4th goal (Bombenger) came around 7 min. left and the 5th goal (Dahl) was around 21 seconds.

I agree there are times when the puck should be given up a little more on that first line for all of them. It seems as though they don't click very well sometimes. It looks like they are trying to make a low percentage pass across the ice, while a short pass is probably the better one. Although I disagree on you saying that Klein doesn't look to pass. When I watch him play he looks to pass and put his linemates in a good position to score. I've seen numerous times this year where Klein has given it up to Bombenger or Bekkedahl to put them in on a break. Once that line finds the right spark I think they will be very dangerous.
I agree with WF playing a pretty decent game. I think if they could have capitalized on a few more powerplays that would have obviously been of some help. North had a few let downs, which they always seem to have. I think it was Labernik who had 2 goals to keep the spartans rolling. Dan Zehran played great. He made some very important saves for the Spartans tonight and proved to be a big key in the game. North has their next game in Grand Forks vs. RR on friday.
Your right, Klein has made numerous break out passes to set up his line mates. It

I was also at the game tonight, in my opinion it was a game that was much closer than the final score. West Fargo played a scrappy game as I thought they could, and had many chances turn the game into their favor. However, North's goalie Dan Zehren (as stated previously) was phenomenal. I think there were at least 2-3 breakaways he steered away. Klein had a pretty goal on a three on two where he picked the corner just over the glove. West Fargo did get the better end of the penalties, but North can't really complain about a call they had. North converting on their chances was the major difference in the game tonight.
Klein did have a nice goal. He would be a much better player if he used his line mates more. He seems to try to do it all too much.

North beat West Fargo tonight 5-2. The game was tied at 1-1 and then 2-2. North pulled away in the third although West Fargo had a couple of 5 on 3's. West Fargo played a reasonable game. Overall their skating was much stronger than I expected. Dave Burdick, who was mentioned earlier in this thread, scored one of West Fargo's goals. The West Fargo team played better than I expected based on the number of players that they lost to graduation.
Like ND Pride stated, North was in penalty trouble in the third where WF scored one of their goals. It could have been a lot worse, but North was able to kill it off. North had no team work on first line. There were numerous times where the player was out of position and had a man open, but decided to take a shot. North's second line came up big with the second and third goals(Labernick).

Very sad indeed. Hope you don't mind, but I put this into it's own thread.
Tough news. Best of luck to his family in these rough times.

Fargo South 4 GFC 1 FINAL
Fargo south struggled the whole game......it was a 1-1 game until 3 minutes left in the 3rd.....to even say that south is in a league of their own is insane......they played an awful game and there is no way that you could call fargo south the best team in the state or anywhere close to that.......WOW that is the word u could describe it as!!!
3-2 DL over North in OT. Very clean game, only like 5 penalties.

Mine are...
South 8, GFC 2
DL 4, North 3
GPR 9, Shanley 2
South 8, GFC 1
GPR 6, Shanley 1
North 6, DL 4

Nice grammar. Who are you saying is garbage? If you're saying Hillman and Diechert are then you should lose all privledges to post on this site.
Diechert was one of the best goalies last year and very easily could be the best this year.

any score on RR-egf game?
5-4 RR

You're probably right. He only uses the top two lines for specialty teams, so I was mistaken with the powerplay goal. Sorry.
Who netted North's goals?
Where would you put north now on the rankings? 3rd, 4th, 5th?
-
I doubt that Dean Wilson would be risking anything early in a game - by not played his top two lines on the penalty kill. Typically he runs his top dogs as often and as long as he can.

Seeburg and Bombenger both led their teams in scoring and had very productive years. Apparently enough coaches around the state acknowledged that and gave them the recognition they deserved.
