  1. No one has said much about North Dakota kids lately that haven't committed. Two I'm hopeful that find their way to Grand Forks.

~Jordan Nelson of the Fargo Force (Williston) has 12 points in 22 games, and is second on the team in shots on goal, with a +/- of +4.

Mason Morelli of the Minot Tauros (Minot) has 9 points in 22 games, but is minus 7 in the plus minus area.

I believe this is Nelson's last year of Juniors while Morelli is only a Junior in high school. I'm thinking its more likely Morelli ends up in Grand Forks (with a Grandpa and dad with ties it helps), but I'm holding out hope that a kid like Nelson could be a four year role guy for UND that gives his heart and soul every shift.

I did a blog catching up with Jordan Nelson a couple weeks ago. UND is his dream school, but time will tell if the coaches feel he would be a good fit.

  2. Line 1: Gregoire Vandevelde Frattin. Gregoire(playmaker) Vande(digger) Fratts(scorer). Plus this would serve as a leader line with all the veterans.

Line 2: Forney, Cichy Hextal. If Forney comes back and can put the puck in the net like he did in Green Bay I'd say put him with someone who can create(Cichy) and someone to take care of all the physical play (Hextal). With Hextal on that line, Forney will never have to touch a corner

Line 3: Trupp Toews Kristo. Speed kills

Checking line: Mario Malone Zajac. This line will put the puck in the net, but they will also be scary to play against

  3. Out of the 3 early signees, there was 2 forwards, and one Defenseman. I don't know much about Miles, but she looks like she has good numbers. Sell was playing in ND, but her numbers were definately impressive. Had the privilage to watch her play a few times, and she has hands that I haven't seen in girls hockey. Needs to get a little faster so she can use them, but hopefully that will come with playing at a higher level.

  4. Stop writing that! He's a huge SCSU fan and has been quoted saying he'd LOVE to play for his hometown team!

Sorry for getting all bent out of shape, but Schmidt has the potential to be the best prospect in SCSU history, so I'm just a little protective. :D

This was about a year ago, but I had heard that Schmidt had his heart set on Colorado College...don't know why, but a very avid St. Cloud Cathedral fan told me this. Also, that SCSU was without a doubt in the mix

  5. I can't believe I forgot about Panzer in mine...I sort of feel like a failure for that. Maybe substitute him in for Duncan, but that's tough. Way too many great players in UND hockey history!

  6. Duncan-Oshie-Trupp (Didn't Oshie play Center his whole Freshman season?)

    Watkins-Vandevelde-Forney

    Frattin-Kozek-Miller

    Kaip-Radke-Malone

Davidson could also be a 4th line possibility as this will be a tough guy line.

    Chorney/Lapoint

    Bina/Finley

    Jones/Genoway

  7. Steve Johnson from the Lincoln Stars? Ha. That would never happen.

looks like Johnson is indeed in the running.

    Johnson applies for women's job

Former UND Hobey Baker Award finalist Steve Johnson has applied for the vacant Sioux women's hockey coaching position.

Johnson, who accumulated 191 points playing for the Sioux from 1984-88, has coached the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League for the past 11 seasons. Johnson and the Stars have compiled 10 winning seasons during that span, winning a league championship in 2003.

Other applicants with UND ties include Dennis Miller (interim women's head coach), Akil Adams (former men's player), Paul Colontino (former assistant women's coach), Scott Koberinski (former men's player and current men's volunteer assistant) and Gordie Stafford (son, Drew, played at UND).

The job was opened when Shantel Rivard was fired in December. Miller served as the interim coach for the remainder of the season. The Sioux, in their fifth season, finished 3-31-2.

  8. I don't think Kyllo was every a defensemen. She stepped it up in a huge way for Williston, after moving Hennessey back to D. As for Sell and The Lamoureoux's, they never played against each other in high school, but I have seen them at some of the same summer tourneys. The twins are better right now, but Sell has better hands/moves. Hopefully when she's in a college program (UND) she can get to that level.

  9. This year just might be a rebuilding year. BUT there is still plenty of time left to chear them on. Yes, I get frustrated watching them, and I've been one to blame certain people, but they are still my team. I'd still rather chear on a sioux team getting swept by tech than a gopher team ranked #1 in the nation. That's the beauty of the fighting sioux tradition!

  10. I've heard a more fitting name mentioned, more fitting in my mind given certain ties more related to womens hockey.

Better than the GF native, national champ at UND, 10 year USHL candidate? Sounds like Buning is going to have a GREAT pool to choose from! Do his initals happen to be GS?

  11. I am pretty sure that he is talking about Grand Forks native, lesser known winger on the Hrkac Circus line with Bob Joyce and coach of the Lincoln Stars from the USHL for about 10 years Steve Johnson. He was also a candidate to replace Berry as assistant coach earlier this year. :D

wow...I knew he was a great player, but hadn't looked at his coaching accomplishments. international coaching experience, USHL coach of the year 3 times, etc. This is the type of guy we need running our program. how interested is he Walrus?
