  1. "Our boys didnt play the best game"

Understatement of the year. Am I disappointed? Of course, but I can GUARANTEE I am not as disappointed as our players are with themselves. Anyone that plays sports know how it goes. Sometimes you just suck it up big time at the worst possible time. Coaching change? Naw. I mean if we want our coaches to put our players' underwear and feed them baby food on then sure, but at some point it comes down to execution.

Perhaps I'm the bad Karma... between OU (football) and UND (hockey), my teams have been disappointing in the big games lately.

  2. Ahhhh to be stuck in the middle. Regardless of what party you align yourself with (or you can be like me and have beliefs that stretch cross-party), It's a good event for GFK to have two candidates show up in town.

My ideal party would believe in (and in no particular order):

Kicking terrorist ass when needed (but not getting involved in every country's business)

    Gun Rights

Separation of Church and State (gay "marriage" allowed in the eyes of taxes, etc.)

Support of science and alternative energy research

    RESPONSIBLE government spending

    Protecting our borders

When it comes to supporting the poor, welfare, etc... things get difficult. I have absolutely no problem with some taxes going towards helping those that have worked their ass off and can't afford health insurance, etc. However, the fact that some people live off welfare, etc. disgusts me. I don't claim to have a solution for this problem.

Another cloudy issue is immigration and illegals.

Either way, I'm excited about both coming to town (regadless of how I'll vote), and I'll show up to hear the rhetoric.

  3. Ya I talked to DISH TV... it could be possible to get prorated up to ~2months depending how your billing cycle worked out. Plus there is a $5 downgrade of service fee. So all in all it would be fairly expensive (at least $25 given the package we have now, and possible ~$45 to "sync" up to billing cycle.

  4. Doesn't the entire debate basically comes down to this? Lets face it... I'd like to think the majority of us ARE respectful REALIZE the history and proudly wear/use the name/logo. Then you have some absolute idiots go and decide to throw a Cowboy/Indian (why not cowboy/cowgirl??) party on a campus embroiled in a debate over the nickname. HOW STUPID CAN YOU POSSIBLY BE!??! My thoughts are confirmed when you read some of the posts on the Herald... we truly have some bigoted/stupid idiots out there. If they do retire the nickname in the near future (I hope not), I hope they directly link this event to the ultimate decision.

The party reminds me of a shindig at Ok. State University a few years ago. Some brilliant white boys decided to throw a KKK themed party.

  5. The wife and I are finally thinking about taking the plunge into HD. How many of you receive the local channels in HD over open air in Grand Forks? How elaborate do we need to get with the antenna? Does HD require putting one on the roof? Or are the transmitters strong enough in this area that we can get away with an indoor antenna?

  6. Going to calc class during my fr. year of undergrad... trying to get in contact with my dad who was/is an airline pilot. He ended up being grounded and could see the smoke plume from CT. Thankfully I had some airline/plane knowledge so I knew he wasn't involved, but it was still nerve racking.

  7. From the Herald

A process has been set up for volunteers who want to assist in the cleanup in Northwood, N.D.

United Methodist Church and Lutheran Disaster Response in Northwood are coordinating volunteers. Volunteer hours will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Curfew is still in place in Northwood from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. and volunteers will not be allowed to overnight or camp in Northwood.

All volunteers will need to check in with the command post at the Cenex Station on state Highway 15 in Northwood. Volunteers need to wear boots, long pants and bring gloves and if available bring rakes, brooms or shovels. Volunteers are urged to be current on their tetanus vaccinations.

If you would like to make a financial contribution toward the cleanup effort, send checks payable to Northwood Recovery to Alerus Financial, PO Box 220, Northwood, ND 58267.

  8. I'll add to this later (at work right now), but myself and several other grad students in the atmospheric dept happened to witness this storm. We actually drove through Northwood ~10-20 minutes beforehand which is sobering. While I believe they had adequate warning (tornado warning was issued), the tornado occurred right at nightfall and appeared to be wrapped by rain - in other words, you couldn't see it coming. Add to the fact it hit a mobile home park, you pretty much have a recipe for disaster... prefab homes are death traps in bad weather. I'll post some pictures tonight (although there isn't much to see of the tornado itself).

  9. Saw a guy catch a 1.5-2ft pike at the confluence of the Red and Red Lake Rivers in town... Thanks to all the fisherman in the area, I've rounded up 4 bobbers in 4 days kayaking :p .

The story of the week is the goldeye I "caught" the other day, however. I was paddling back down from Lincoln park to the EGF dock when I saw what appeared to be a bottle moving against the current I paddled up and saw it was a travel size Canadian whiskey bottle :whistling: I pulled on it and sure enough there was a line with a 10 inch goldeye attached. The people fishing across the river said they wondered what it was, so I paddled over and gave it to them to deal with. Just another day on the Red!

  10. Been busy, that's for sure. Work hard play hard. Have kayaked quite a bit, but am also scrambling to get a bunch of work done for a conference at the end of July. With the inlaws coming into town today, we have been extensively fixing up the house... painting, cleaning, etc. Once the conference/inlaws visit is over, I'm going to relax for a few days... go river tripping somewhere while the wife is off on her cruise with her friend.

  11. We ended up going to the GF show downtown after shooting off our own the night before. Sat on the dike in EGF. Should of just brought our fireworks there as no one seemed to care (multiple cops around and bazillions of people shooting off their goods).

  12. You might be a redneck if you type you're as "your" on multiple occasions.

    your probably a redneck

If your married to your cousin your definetly a redneck

In all seriousness, having lived in Oklahoma for 6 years, I feel pretty good about my redneck radar. There are a few up here, but not nearly in the quantity in OK/TX/etc.
