  1. I think hak needs to just play Eidsness, there is NO benifit to playing Walski and Eidsness is a better goaliew...

Walski record so far this year, 3 0 3 0 10 150 3.99 0 39 .796. What have the coaching staff seen in this kid? Yes, nice kid, who is great in practices as stated by our coaching staff, comes from Fargo, ND playing for the home town Fighting Sioux, been here three half years to prove himself.... there is a reason he is a walk on.

  2. Hopefully we've seen the last of Walski - he is definatley not an everyday WCHA goalie and never will be. I feel we've badly mismanaged the goalie situation. Instead of developing a young goalie during the Lammy years, we seem to have put our eggs in the Walski basket and driven off our young prospect. I'm not saying Greico would have solved all our problems, but we should have developed someone. Now we're stuck. It's time to play Eidsness for better or worse. We should not be in this situation.

Other frustrations - There ain't nobody getting better on this team.

    Our defence has signifigantly deteriorated.

It appears Hak can't fire up a team to save his butt. If you can't get up for a frozen 4 game there is something wrong. This attitude is carrying over this year.

Hak appears to be on the road to Woogville.

For some reason this coaching staff in the last five years doesn't have a handle on there goalies. Rolling the dice and not thinking about the future. There have been freshmen goalies that come in and handle the postion, but they have a supporting staff ie a seasoned team. The frustrating part, we go out and recruit a young prospect that had the same or better junior A experience as Eidsness. We throw him into a game situation when he was only 17 years old and in his second weekend of playing he pick up his third and fourth win of the season and rookie of the week!! Don't get me wrong he had a great team in front on him that year. The point I am making if Walski was the go to guy after Lammy and Grieco as the third goalie whydidn't that ever occur?? Now we are in a situation, where we have not built for the future which is now! Eidsness in a perfect world would be coming in as a freshman goalie and having a senior and a junior goalie that had playing experience at this level. Don't know what happened but the coaching staff needs to be held accountable for the poor recruiting and development in the goalie position and we are seeling the ramafication of these decisions so far, so lets ride Eidsness, good , or bad, he needs to develop and build confidence.

  3. You got all that from a blog's comment section?

Who's to say the job isn't Walski's to lose? Have you seen the off-season workouts? Have you seen the on-ice practices? How has Walski looked? Is Eidsness even in GF yet? Have you compared them side by side? How many games have you witnessed either goalie play? And what about Harrington? You state: "will no doubt get very little (if any) game experience" How do you know this? I have no idea who the goalie will be this year for the Sioux. That is why coaches coach; players play; and fans get to watch, whine, bitch, and cheer.

Did Hakstol tell you about there being a goalie rotation this year? I bet he doesn't even know if there will be one; and the chances of him asking for approval from the fans is pretty much nil.

if that was the case with Walski, why didn't the coaching staff play him more then one game and prepare him for this year? And if you recall the game he played, it was lowest shots on net for the year.

    It's Eidsness postion to loss.

  4. And I agree with all of that thinking, I was just curious...

Snider was my "Sleeper" Pick in my Fantasy Draft...

Back to the drawing board...Oh well, at least Greico is still out there..."Groans" "Here we go again"

And he is still playing, check out the Tampa Bay training roster for last week... # 30 Grieco....

  5. changing the goalie is something Hak has never done, and it was a mistake in this case not to try it.

And it's something that the coaching staff should be accountable for, not building towards a back up for your #1 goalie....... We needed at change, nothing again Lammy he has carried the team. I was loud and clear coaching staff didn

  6. "Goaltending killed us in the end the last 3 seasons, hopefully Eideness ends that."

    Yeah....ok....

So...Jpar and J-P couldn't get 'er done for you.

    Except that hmmm....wait a sec...

J-P just became the FIRST Sioux goalie to make the Hobie Top Ten list. Oh...and wait....he had the BEST NUMBERS IN NET of ANY GOALIE in the NCAA going into the FF.

    Hmmm....

Oh, but wait. J-Par was a sieve. No...wait....a funnel. No...wait...hmmm...scratch that. He was a pretty decent netminder.

Dang. So much for that theory.

But hey. Hopefully Eidsness ends that.

Or maybe Walski will continue his shutout streak?

I'm just sayin....goaltending hasn't really been a short suit in past years.

Here is a reality check, Lammy's save percentage in the semi game was 777%. not taking away anything from his season but he has proven in the last two years he can not win the big games.

What does Hak do put in Walski, who has only started one game in three years, if the coaching staff had confidence in Walski he would be in there on the start of the second period and send a message to the players that we are here to do everything possble to win this game. But the coaching staff lived by Lammy all year and died with Lammy. :D

  7. Anthony Grieco 23 1151 75 0 3.91 5 9 0 2 653 578 0.885

It appears from Grieco's junior numbers that beating out Grieco wasn't all that impressive of a feat.

If you are going to address Grieco's # then let everyone know that he is playing with a young team and against the top team in the OHL. :D

Check out his Bio, it talks about his time at UND

Here is his last game he played:

    Mississauga, ON

  8. Grieco's stats were not all that newsworthy. Solid only.

I sure wish we were recruiting a goalie who was average so we had no expectations...

Before UND: Grieco spent the 2005-06 season with the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Provincial Junior "A" League ... He posted a 28-10-0 overall record in 38 games, with five shutouts ... He had a 2.55 goals against average and .904 save percentage in all games, including the playoffs ... He helped lead his team to a third-place finish in the OPJHL

  9. If someone thought he could play why did they go get Grieco, why did he start over Walski? There is a reason for these things.

Well, here is a little reason, it looks like Grieco played his first game and wins the game with 40 saves and selected first star. this is what the game sheet says.....

Name GP Mins GA Shutouts Avg. W L OTL SL SA SVS %

    1 Anthony Grieco 1 64 2 0 1.89 1 0 0 0 42 40 0.952

  10. I think that rather than jump to the conclusion that Walski cannot play, we have a little faith in the team and Hak. I think the fact that Walksi started to travel with the team implies that he has improved and Hak felt that if push comes to shove, that he could play in the league. Yes, this is not the most ideal situation, but show some confidence in your team and know that they will battle to get through it.

This is a great opportunity for Walski to step up to the bar, and I believe given the chance he can play. I have faith in the team and coaches, but when you look at this from a 30,000 foot view, I reflect!

  11. Why not have two really good goalies, the thing I don't understand if Grieco didn't want to stay he should have told Hak so the Sioux could have recruited a good goalie. If you watched the NHL last season the teams with TWO (2) solid goalies are the ones that went far in the playoffs. This season the Sens are probably really glad that they kept Gerber. The Ducks have two really good goalies. New Jersey actually now has two really good goalies.

You can not only ride one goalie throughout a whole season, it just doesn't work historically even Karl G didn't play every game. I can not for the life of me see Walski stealing a game in a hard fought series. Seriously. If Phil gets hurt, say run over by one of the league goons or kicked out or hitting someone with his blocker the Sioux are screwed.

Totally agree with you, when you look around the hockey league

  12. WOW!! you know what I heard at the local bar, that the mens hockey team will be dressing one of the womens hockey goalies at the next home game!! , stay tuned as the UND Hockey continues...

Give me a break! let's foucs on hockey GO SIOUX!!

  13. hak said walski has earned his road trips by his work in practice, so i am guessing he and grieco would split the majority of the road trips unless one of them really stepped up and took the second spot. if he really left because of that, its too bad. you better have thicker skin than that to be a top notch goalie, either that or prove yourself so that hak just cant leave you home. if this all ends up being true, we have some voids to fill in this area.

I have a difficult time really understanding when the coaches always refer to "working hard" in practice. Do we believe at this level that any player holds that much of a different in their day to day practice, and if so why would they even be at this level? I think it is an easy out for the coaches call.

As stated, why would a highly recruited goalie ever have to be manipulated against a "walk on", if so why would all that scholarship money be spent on a recruited goalie if a walk on is the go to guy?:D? Is there more to this story........................

  14. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they only have 3 points TOTAL between them in the 4 games so far.

Totally agree, take away the Michigan game, in the last three games we have scored four goals in three games. Our power play is not producing and we need to get more physical infront of our net. The leaders need to lead by example! Last night's game was controlled by M

  15. I am saying Grieco will play more than 6 games this season and is already looking better with his position and rebounds.

I agree that Grieco will see more than 6 games this year, we forget that he was injured from mid Jan on.

  16. When we see him actually play for a full game, maybe we'll be more ready to torch him like you are. As for last year, I seem to remember only one team winning the national championship, meaning all the other goalies who were such great leaders (in your eyes) didn't win squat either. As for the team who won, I thought it was more due to the system than the goalie.

My point is not to torch Lammy.............but we should not be a one goalie show!! If he's the go to guy, let's build a supporting staff... What happens next year?

  17. for the fans to clap when he made a save after he let his second goal in was simply sickening. Yeah dont like him, you think he sucks, or whatever, that was wrong and I forgot what goalie got us to the frozen four last year?

Am I missing something???, Lammy or (Jean Paul Phillpe.... you know what I mean) has not won us anything! Did we win the championship last year??? As a senior you need to lead by example, as we all know, he has had plenty of chances to prove himself. It's pretty easy for an average goalie to play in front of a prowerhouse team like UND. Just take a look around the league at the other senior goalies from last year, they lead their teams. I know it's only a game, but come on look like you care.
