  1. I am aware that ESPN does use the nicknames all the time, but is that the reason for us getting a nickname, so the announcers have something to call us. As I was watching the Frozen Four & they congratulated Providence they called them the Terriers. I know that it wasn't ESPN, but still it was wrong.

Also in making my point, other than the announcers, who uses the nicknames. Do you say that the Pioneers are coming to play hockey this weekend or do you say Denver. I don't hear very many people using the nickname of Northern Arizona when they come to play football or basketball here. I guess one of my points was people know us as North Dakota just as we know our teams by their names, not nicknames.

  2. Does the University of North Dakota really need a nickname? Do you really know the nicknames of other schools & does it really matter if they have a nickname. Most people don't know the nicknames anyhow. Ask your friends & family if they know the nicknames of the schools that we play in sports, especially hockey. I have been doing this & I am not surprised that people don't know the nicknames of the schools.

Without looking on the internet & not commenting, can you name the
    ...nicknames of the schools....

    Denver
    Colorado College
    Omaha
Providence - they just won the frozen four & still didn't know
    Ohio State
    Penn State
    St Cloud
    Duluth
    Miami of Ohio
    RIT
    Boston University
    Boston College
    Michigan State
    Michigan
    Mankato State
    Michigan Tech

But if you ask they will know that it is Minnesota Gophers, Wisconsin Badgers & of course North Dakota Fighting Sioux.

Share this with others not from UND & you might be surprised at the results. Of course I might be surprised at the people who do know them. But my point is when we play these teams you don't ever hear anyone say we are playing the Bulldogs, no we are playing Duluth. So what is the real reason for a nickname? I would like someone to explain that to me.

  3. I agree that there are a lot of fans in the metro area, but they usually don't get hotel rooms. I looked on-line for rooms for this weekend around the X & the Holiday Inn still has rooms available for $169 a night, along with the Crown Plaza. I have been going to the Final 5 for the last 9 years & I have never heard of any rooms available the week of the tournament. I am willing to be that you can't get a room around the Target Center this weekend. Just saying.

On a side note, my gopher friend contacted me this week to see if we will be going to the games. I told him yes. He said that they would be at the Target Center as well because they weren't going to support the Big 10. His group are gopher & badger fans. It will be interesting to see how many fans are at the X this weekend.

  4. We also sat by some Minnesota & Wisconsin fans & they are not happy about leaving the WCHA. They think that the B10 is a joke. I told them that they will just have to start following the Sioux & they said at least they could watch some good hockey then.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind still seeing the Final Five stay in Mpls. It is a good weekend away & it is ALOT of fun to go there. A mini vacation for us.

  5. Try the Hilton Garden downtown St Paul. About $129 a night and is within walking distance. Kelly inn is much cheaper, but it is about a 1 1/2 walk

We stay at the Kelly Inn & the rooms aren't any cheaper. I think this year we got quoted prices of $159 a night. It takes us about 10 - 15 minutes to walk to the game, not really that far. Just a little jaunt on the way back as you have to walk up hill. They do have shuttles from the Kelly Inn though.

  6. Looking for 2 tickets for the gopher series - any where is fine - just found out that the kids are coming from the cities & want to see the series - yes they are Sioux fans - anything would be appreciated!!!

Would be willing to trade some tickets for the Mankato series in February. I know that isn't a game that a lot of people want tickets for, but we will be gone that weekend. Our seats are the in the lower bowl & pretty good ones.

    Thanks

  7. With all of the suggestions,is there anyone on this thread that could or would write them into an organized letter and send it to the ones that could make the changes? I saw some very good ideas on here and sometimes that's all it takes is a letter written well that offers some suggestions. If anyone knows of the address and who it should be sent to, please post it on this thread.

    My favorites:

1-Posting of the scores from around the WCHA

2-Organized cheers but not quite to the extreme of the Wisconsin fans (I was there for the Regional and thought it was over done) but they seemed excited.

3-Stop PA announcements at bad times

4-More band along with an occasional walk through the halls between periods playing the school song.

5-Reminder to people to stay in their seats when puck is in play.

You forgot #6 - take away the make over -

That is the dumbest thing that I have ever seen at a sporting event in my life!!!

  8. I'd like to be in Denver.....anyone going if they win today???

Yes, I will be flying out of GF on Saturday morning at 5:00 am. I have some frequent flyer miles that I can use. I will then ride home with the rest of the family that is out there.

    GO SIOUX!!!!

  9. I just wanted to say Thank You to all the seniors!!! I am going to miss them next year!!!

I just love when they come back out on the ice for the final time in front of the fans.

Lammy - I think is just a class act. The way he threw his stick in the crowd & then telling Hennessy after the game that he hoped that he made some kids day.

SEE YOU AT THE FINAL FIVE!!!!

    GO SIOUX!!!!

  10. Do I know what happened? Yes. Is it ok to share the story on a forum? NO. I do not have permission to do so and I will not. I do not mean to "rub it in" at all, I just have stated that TJ was not in a fight. And yes, I do think that paper reported a load of crap. I just get irritated when posters get a case of word vomit and spew the wild tales. The details will emerge soon enough, but it's not my place to give them.

I agree with you. It is not your story to tell. We will find out soon enough & when we do another forum will start & people will talk about it again.

  11. Aleah - I admire you for apparently knowing "the real story" of what happened and not wanting to cause further trouble for anyone by telling it. But by dropping little indications that you have said knowledge - it almost seems like you want us to ask us about it but don't want to tell it. Not trying to sound like a ash-hole - it is your right to post what you want - but why not set us all straight or just not drop anymore hints that you know the hole story? Sorry in advance if I am picking up the wrong vibes from your posts.

  12. I was just in Altru ER this past week. Just needed to go to urgent care, but they just brought me back to ER. I inquired about urgent care, but all I was told was that someone has to bring you back to urgent care. That wasn't an option when I went in there.....and it wasn't anything serious that needed to be in the ER, but I couldn't make it into the DR during the day, as I am out of town. I know for next time I will definately be going to Aurora urgent care.

  13. You are going out on a limb here if you think the students/band are the only ones that cheer. There are lots of people that cheer. Just not enough of them.

It just sounds like they are the only ones cheering because they are all together....and if you are sitting in that group of course it sounds even louder and you think you are the only ones cheering.
