  1. The reason USB "signed" so many kids is because there are alot of walk ons.

In order to "sign" a National Letter of Intent, yu omust be receiving scholarship money from the school...therefore, not a "walk-on"

  2. The poor officiating has made the game regress and will drive players like Parise to the pros for their safety if nothing else.

There in the NHL, they will never get hooked, slashed, held, cross-checked AND all the guys are slower and smaller. Are kidding me?

  3. Even if UND should decide they want to play us...i don't think NDSU is going to play you guys. We'll be D1AA and it probably wouldn't be wise to be playing D2 teams.

Maybe if you guys move up we can play again...but until then...good luck!

Why can't Bison people get it in their heads? They don't get a bid to the playoffs, in part, because they scheduled two D1-AA teams (which HURTS you according to the playoff selection criteria). But, even after that lesson, you think UND will schedule a D1-AA NDSU?? Why?? To hurt UND's playoff chances?? The offer must be VERY lucrative for UND to continue the rivalry in different divisions. UND is the one that has the most to lose in this. Why wouldn't NDSU want to play the games?? It's good for them and WILL NOT HURT THEIR PLAYOFF CHANCES (because they won't HAVE ANY the next four years).

  4. Yes, I also thought that was a bad decision at the time.

Was that the timeout call when we didn't have the right personnel on the field? If that's it, I don't really have a problem with it...sure, it stops the clock, but better to have the right matchups in there. You study game film all week for a reason.

  5. I don't know if it is some collectible coin coming out or propoganda by one of the many UND Organizations that don't like him or what? There is no info at all in the advertisement. Just wondering if any of you guys know what it is about.

I'm sure it's something you should worry about. I bet that Ralph (and his "people")will take over the world some day if we don't take action now. You kidding?

  6. tuggnutt,

How does the GLIAC make it to lure a quality non-conf. opponent? Most GLIAC teams only schedule ONE non-conf. game, some don't schedule ANY. The MIAA made it easier to schedule a quality non-conf. opponent, with teams like NWMSU, Pitt. St., MoWest, Truman State, or Emporia State. Most of the teams in the MIAA scheduled two non-conf. games. The only thing the GLIAC and the western indies add are increased travel costs.

Not many GLIAC coaches would schedule an NCC opponent in previous years. For good reason. Scheduling with such a big conference, yes. But, it didn't make sense to travel too far for an out of region game. With an in-region game, some may be willing to make the trek. Do you think UND is a good draw? Do you think GLIAC schools would like that gate? Just food for thought. I should've realized that making a blanket statement regarding GLIAC and NCC schools would be misread, my bad. I was simply saying that it is more enticing for a GLIAC-NCC game now than before. As far as them only scheduling conference opponents, that is because there are so many GLIAC schools. As long as there are 12 GLIAC football schools, this will be the case. As we have seen in the NCC, that isn't etched in stone. There have been rumblings of Mercyhurst and Gannon (non-football) leaving the conference as well as Indianapolis finding a permanent home. It will be a different landscape in both conferences in five years.

  7. Crap, my mistake. It was Slippery Rock, not Edinboro. Slippery Rock is a decent DII program. NDSU has met Edinboro in the playoffs before so when I was trying to recall the PSAC team that reportedly bailed on the Bison trip, they were the first name that came to mind (I knew it wasn't IUP).

From a UND fan's perspective, you might wonder what it would take for UND to get a school like Slippery Rock to come for a visit.

From the money perspective, the season tickets sales cover the cost. Any sales beyond that are profit (I think).  Point is, that it was getting so hard for NDSU to get decent DII teams that the bottom line was going to suffer one way or another. What would have been better for NDSU: playing a game and making some money or having an open date and not making any? OTOH, the guarantee for Maine wasn't 100k so I'm not sure what all goes into affecting the size teams demand.

It actually might be a bit easier to lure quality DII teams beacasue with the restructuring of the regions, the GLIAC is now in the smae region as the NCC. That said, Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State all would be in-region opponents...something that coaches are looking to have with the playoffs set-up as they are. Just my two cents.

  8. I read somewhere that UND pays something like 5K for each game that is held there....Alerus is doing alright as far as football is concerned. They must be hurting because the Ralph seems to be getting other stuff (the stars on ice, concerts, etc.)

  9. Since I can't even hope to do it from memory, the #1's that I could look up:

Mar 18 2002 UNH (also #1 in Mar. 4 poll, before WCHA play-in)

Mar 19 2001 Mich St. (also #1 in Mar. 5 poll, before WCHA play-in)

Mar 20 2000 Wisconsin (also #1 in Mar. 6 poll, before WCHA play-in)

Mar 22 1999 UND (also #1 in Mar. 8 poll, before WCHA play-in)

Mar 16 1998 UND (also #1 in Mar. 9 poll, before WCHA play-in)

nice work, Jim....I knew I wouldn't remember them ALL! :D

  10. Anyone know the answer to Speez's question? When was the last time a team ranked first in the polls won a national championship?

Just trying to go from memory:

    2002 Denver #1 (Minnesota won)

2001 Michigan State #1 (BC Won)

    2000 BC #1 (UND won)

1999 New Hampshire #1 (Maine won)

    1998 UND #1 (Michigan won)

    1997 Michigan #1 (UND won)

1996 Michigan won...weren't they the #1 going in? Hard to say.

Just guessing/trying to remember on these...
