  1. maine won it all here in Milwaukee back in 94 I think. it will be a good game.
  2. You gotta love true wcha fans. it is a great league with so many talented players. they were hanging banners of the hockey champs. northern michigan, denver, cc, minnesota, UND, wisconsin, michigan tech, all these have won the big one, no? and maybe more league teams i did not mention. thanks scsu fan. you made a great run this year at the final five.
  3. they are young, they will have a super season next year. a program like this reloads and goes full bore. they may be the team that has gone to the most frozen fours since 2000, and barring Michigan, still hold the most titles. great program, great ice arena, great tradition. this adds up to a powerhouse year in and year out. i saw many proud fans tonite and happy to be here. only four make it this far. it is a great honor and these players gave it their all. down 3-0 after the first, they scored 2-2 and 3-1 after that and put the last shot on goal at the buzzer. the bc goalie stopped some incredible shots. that is why hockey is such a great sport at the college level. you never know who is going to win. see you all next year.
  4. I guarantee a Maine win tonite, the red moles go down 4-3 OT. Book it, you clown.
  5. OOPs, see my reply a message or two above. Still have not got used to the messaging!
  6. Yes, when you come out of the hotel, turn right and walk down 6th to the games. Stay away from the bus terminal, some sketchy characters hang around there. You have the Grand Avenue Mall which is just ok. The Imax theater on 7th and Wells is pretty cool. You will have about a 1/2 mile walk to the Bradley Center.
  7. Nice choice, really quaint and good food. You are east of the arena, but close to the lake for a nice walk. try the new art center on the lake near you. calatrava. it is white and looks like a big ship.
  8. Ambassador hotel is newly remodeled, quite nice, but on 23rd and wisconsin, which can get a little sketchy. not a problem if you stay on wisconsin when walking. you can take a bus to the game, but the wisc ave bridge is out so the buses turn north and go on wells. get off at about 6th and wells and go north to the bradley center. by car, just take wells street east all the way down to 6th. turn left and on the northeast corner of 6th and state is a parking structure, the closest to the bradley. the pep rally is at the saloon i just mentioned, according to annother message i read yesterday. weather is good, looks like low 50's during the day. brewers are in town on friday. the stadium is new and very nice. also, check out the milwaukee journal sentinell on the web today. nice article on tony h. the '87 hobey baker winner from UND who is a coach of the Milwaukee Admirals. The guy won the the NCAA, the Stanely and the Halder cup. Wow.
  9. Pre-game party on the official site is identified as the buckhead saloon, on old world third street, just a block east of the bradley center. walk east on state street and turn left at old world third. it is on your left, i think.
  10. The ramada is the closest and cheapest to the bradley center. The Pfister is the place to go to impress your wife. Also, try the Hyatt, which is right near the Bradley, has a revolving restaurant, and may even have a pool.
  11. I forgot to mention Milwaukee has a casino, Pottowattomi, located in the city. IF you don't like gambling, there is some entertainment always and the food is good, though pricey. The odds are not as good as Vegas but the lot is full so someone must be winning now and again. The Buckhead Saloon is just a block east of the Bradley Center. For those coming into town by car, take I-94 down to the James Lovell exit. It is a left exit so watch out for it. Turn Left and head one block north to Michigan. Turn right and go one block, then left at the first light. Go north about 3-4 blocks and there is a parking structure on the northeast corner of state street and the street you are on (5th I think). Once you park, the Bradley Center is just east of there and the Buckhead is one block east of there. You can walk down state street east to get to both. Not much in the paper yet on the big games. Maybe tomorrow. I called the sports desk and asked them to do a piece on Stafford, since he lived here for a while before the family moved to MN. His dad Gordie taught at my kids' high school, Kettle Morraine, for a few years. See you all on thursday.
  12. Yes, you go under the freeway there. That whole area is going to be redone in a few years. It is kind of rough right now. Word to the wise, there is a bus terminal across from the Ramada. Lots of transient characters. Watch your belongings, and take the street to the arena by going out of the front hotel door and to the RIGHT. Much better view and less panhandlers.
  13. It is called the Safe House. About 6 blocks from the arena downtown. It has a secret passage way. Kind of fun.
  14. Stopped drinking and partying about 2 years ago. But anything on Water street is fine. Water Street Brewery, Brew City Barbeque, Art's Performing Center (NOT). Plus Goolesby's in nice for sports and drinking.
  15. I left EGF after high school and have lived in Milwaukee since 1969. The Bradley Center is a great place to see hockey. It was donated to the city by a famous Blackhawk announcer, Lloyd Pettit, who married the heir to the Allen Bradley Company. Good sight lines. There are a number of good bars and restaurants east of the facility and further east, up and down Water Street. Major Goolesby's is a great place for a Sioux reunion and it is only a block south of the arena. Coming into downtown, the best exit to take is called James Lovell. Take I-94 east rigth into the city and be carefull, it is a left exit. Lots of construction is going on for the Marquette Interchange. Turn left off the exit and head about 4-5 blocks north to state street. There is a big parking structure there on the northeast corner. The arena is just east of there. You can't miss it. There are alot of things to do in town. Get info off the net from the visitor's bureau to start. Anywhere down by the lake is a nice place if the weather is nice. New art center straight east off Wisconsin Ave. that looks ultr-modern. The Miller brewing company has brewery tours daily. I think Harley Davidson has tours too. The Brewers are in town and the new stadium is worth the trip. Tickets start at about 7 bucks for the rafters, and you can get nice bleacher seats for 12 to 15 bucks. Good food there, too. The Milwaukee Museum is only three blocks from the arena. The have an IMax theater worth seeing. The Zoo is out off I-94 Highway 100 north which is 10 minutes west of downtown. The best shopping center in town is off I-94 Moreland Road (north) about 15 minutes west of downtown, called Brookfield Shopping Center. Want mexican food? La Fuente's. Good rib houses are Famous Dave's, and for dry ribs try Q restaurant on the south side. Italian? Caterina's in West Allis. Indian? Maharaja on the East Side. And a great breakfast joint (they are all over town) is George Webb's. You like burgers, try Gilles in Wauwautosa. Best ice cream in town is Leon's Custard on the south side. The food is generally awesome. The city is pretty safe, despite lots of news reports. The near north side and near south side are the rough parts of town and you will know it when you see it. But any of the bars on Water Street or near the arena are all fine. Anybody want to ice skate while they are here, you can rent skates at the Pettit Ice Center right of I-94, south on 84th street. They have a huge oval. You can rent skates there too. It was the speed skating Olympic training site until they moved it out to Colorado. All in all, you will have a great time. I foresee a Badger-FIghting Sioux final, so we need ALL the fans we can get. Anybody need help or directions, I will be in town all weekend with my two brothers, and a brother in law. Feel free to call 262-894-6363. Go Sioux!!!
