  1. We've had a brutal non-conference schedule. Can we use that to rise to the top once league play starts? What are our chances?

    Great West Conference Standings

    Chicago State 1-0 3-14

    South Dakota 0-0 9-8

    Texas-Pan American 0-0 8-10

    NJIT 0-0 3-10

    North Dakota 0-0 2-11

    Houston Baptist 0-0 2-13

    Utah Valley 0-1 1-14

Looking at the other teams records, wow, this looks like a really bad league. I don't see any reason why they shouldn't win this conference again this year.

  2. Was looking and see that Trenbeath should pass Dan Grossman for 2nd all time receptions Trenbeath has 156 and Grossman had 159. Dressler still way ahead with 243.

Trenbeath should also pass Dressler today in career receiving yards. Dressler has 2110 and trenbeath has 2091.

  3. I believe first year he medical red shirted after a neck injury in high school his senior year, then red shirted the next, and the last two years he played counting as his freshmen and sophomore years. But I believe now since UND is moving to division I they are much stricter on the medical red shirt and that was taken away from him so instead of being a Junior he is now a senior. I could be wrong about that.

  4. Another year, another Fighting Sioux team, another chapter added to the great history of Fighting Sioux hockey. I just wanna thank the young men for everything they have done and will do in the future. To those who won't be back next season I thank you for everything you've done for the program and wish you nothing but the best in whatever it is you do. To those sticking around and coming in lets make an even better chapter in Fighting Sioux hockey, lets come out and show the hockey world what FIGHTING SIOUX HOCKEY is all about.

    Sioux YEAH YEAH :)

  5. UND WOMEN: Knight, Badgers dump Sioux

    Herald Staff Report

    Published Sunday, February 03, 2008

MADISON, Wis. - Hilary Knight was too much for the UND women's hockey team Saturday.

The freshman forward scored three goals and added an assist to lead fifth-ranked Wisconsin to a 6-1 victory against UND in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play.

Wisconsin had a 36-17 advantage in shots on goal.

The Badgers led 2-0 after the first period with goals from Kyla Sanders at 5 minutes, 36 seconds of the period and Knight on a power play at 9:23.

Knight scored another power-play goal 10:44 into the second period.

UND scored on a 5-on-3 advantage 3 minutes, 41 seconds later to cut the lead to two.

Wisconsin pulled away in the third period, scoring three goals in less than four minutes. Knight, Sanders and Angie Keseley all scored in that span.

The Badgers converted three of six power-play chances, as UND was penalized seven times for 14 minutes.

Jessie Vetter finished with 16 saves for Wisconsin. UND's Michelle Sauer had 30 stops.

Wisconsin improved to 19-6-2, while the Sioux dropped to 4-21-4.

The teams meet again at 2:07 p.m. today in Madison.

  6. With all due respect to the many great players who have played at UND, I don't think there can be much serious debate about who the best player has been--Jenny Crouse. The numbers she put up, and the three national championships during her career speak for themselves. She may be the best all-around post player in dII history.

    I agree with you 100%

  7. Okay, it's time to start pointing fingers:

What is everyone's opinion of what led to do Lennon's leaving? To blame all this on Bunning seems a bit naive to me at best and just plain stupid at worst, but want to hear other opinions....

I think if we would have gone through transition with NDSU a few years ago I think he would have stuck around a lot longer. I'm sure there are more reasons also. Just my opinion.

  8. I voted for eight teams, but I have an idea for a 16 team playoff incorporating much of what already exists. But anything would be better than the Bull Crap Series.

The BCS might be better than what we had before because there is a strength of schedule component to the rankings. But the fact that a bunch of inherently biased coaches meeting in smoke-filled backrooms drinking hard liquor from old mayonaise jars (ok I am exaggerating, but you get the point) have any sort of power over who plays where and when for what makes the whole system a total joke. If this is such a great system, why doesn't any other sport at any other level use something similar? Because it sucks, pure and simple. It is absolutely outrageous that coaches can "campaign" for their teams in the press and then get what they want (and I think everyone on this forum knows what coach and team I am talking about; it happened last year).

Of course, since the BCS has zero credibility, the BCS-ites have to come up with a bunch of half-truths, speculation and empty rhetoric to defend it. I have posted it before on this forum and I do so again right here to illustrate just how stupid the Bull Crap Series really is:

    1) A playoff would ruin the importance of the regular season: Bunk. In Division 2 (as most people on this forum know), if you lose more than 2 games in a season, you can kiss the playoffs goodbye. Sometimes, even one loss teams don't get in. The regular season is still very important in D2 and it would still be important in DI FBS. The only sports in which the playoffs ruins regular season significance are the NBA and NHL. But that is a topic for another time.

    2) A playoff would make less money than the current system: Bunk. This is perhaps the stupidest piece of reasoning of all. How in the world could anyone think that a tournament over a period of three to four weeks involving eight to sixteen teams, nationally televised, with most (if not all) of the games in prime time would make less money than a bunch of meaningless Bowl games (except for the BCS title game) scattered over a period of two to three weeks in December and January? The TV contracts would be worth mad money. And that doesn't count the ticket sales and the merchandising. I guess it depends what side your bread is buttered on. 'Nuff said.

    3) A playoff would hurt "the little guy" in college football: Bunk. The "little guy" isn't getting much out of the current system, so the BCS-ites have a lot of nerve trying to use this argument. Properly structured and thought out, a playoff system would generate tons of money that could be poured into a revenue-sharing system that would benefit all schools, even those that aren't ranked in the top 5 or 10 ever year. This cash could be used to help pay for Title IX compliance issues and other things that athletic departments have to deal with. And a playoff system could be implemented without getting rid of all the lower and medium tier Bowls. You could leave those games as they are so that teams that don't qualify for the playoff tournament can still play for something. But I do think they should get rid of some of these low-level Bowl games, there are way too many bowls right now.

    4) A playoff would hurt the academics of student-athletes because of too much travel, etc: Bunk. D-III has a playoff system, but most of those schools also have strict academic standards that all students (including athletes) must comply with. And it seems to work just fine. College basketball teams travel all over the Western Hemisphere during the regular season and across the country during the postseason and everything seems to work out just fine with those athletes. A playoff could be implemented that starts early in December and is finished by January 1st. That would help mitigate these concerns so that athletes are also doing their jobs as students.

As I have said before, what is preventing a playoff system are the numerous political entanglements between the NCAA, the various schools and the various conferences. Not lack of revenue-producing potential.

    End Rant.

Very well said, I love that rant...Anyways I dont care how many teams are in the playoff I just wanna see a playoff.

  9. I say keep the bcs formula and the top 8 teams at the end of the year are in. 1 plays 8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5. Heres how i think it would play out, just my opinion. :)

  11. What I am disgusted by was attending the game on Saturday and seeing the Former Sioux Captain Jessica Kovacevich with a blatantly rude sign directed at Coach Rivard. It just in a way goes to show what type of class Rivard was working with and if she had to deal with someone like that for 4 years she should feel happy to be getting out. That was a classless act on Kovacevich... she really needs to grow up and move on... Thank god the security guard had the nerve to get rid of that sign...

I don't disagree with the athletic departments decision and hopefully the girls can get past this....and start looking for some positives....

Maybe we have found out who GREENEY is?
