  1. Definitly. We're talking about a team, dare I say it, that would be BETTER than the North Dakota 88's were. Although they had Mario Lamoreux. If anyone else remembers this team I believe they ran over every ND team they played and almost every Minnesota team for that matter. Maybe someone can post how similar the two teams would be and where they would get an added bonus (such as Galt, if he were to play, which he is not).

It's amazing how helpful people can be these days. It took me about 15 minutes to get all this information. These are your ND 88's and I bolded the players that you all think will try out this year.

    Trevor Anderson

    Adam Campell

    Thomas Campell

    Justin Connell

    Clark Dingman

    Drew Flurer

    Ian Grande

    Nick Klenow

    Grant Larson

    Mario Lamoureux

    Ross Monson

    Andrew Peterson

    Allan Spriggs

    Nathan Stremick

    Sam Wedin

    Paul Weisgarber

  2. I do not believe Klenow has any ties to the Jets organization other than his old team mate Elliot Okland. In any case I don't think they would pick him up solely for that reason. I do agree with almost everyone on here though, as you post some very valid points. It could be the Jets are not interested in his numbers this season because they have previously seen what his potential and his capabilities are. If they were indeed picking players on this years points there would be no doubt Klenow would be left off the list. IMO, they will not allow Klenow to suit up for any games this year. It will be difficult for him to adapt to the game in any time to help the team this season, and maybe they will try and polish him for next year. If you were to ask me, he's got the speed, it's the quickness he needs. Some of that could have to do with all the time he's been logging on the ice however. It's fun to speculate though. I love this time of year.

Is there a deep thought there I'm missing?

  3. I'm just wondering if Klenow has some family ties with someone in the jets organization or is close friends with someone because i don't understand how they can expect him to succeed against NAHL teams when hes been struggling against high school teams. If North only played Shanley and Wahpeton once like most of the other EDC teams because those games have to have a huge impact on the few points his picked up.

  4. I looked on the Lincoln Stars transactions on there website and I did not see them acquiring Erick Galt. I'm not doubting whoever said that he commited, just wondering how you found that out and if I could get some more details. Thats interesting. I wonder if Weisgarber will do the same with a USHL team? If so, will they not compete on the Chicago Showcase (Team ND) team? Same goes for Klenow who will play for the FM Jets when there season ends, will he be eligible? Losing some of these guys will most definitly hurt ND's chance at winning the thing.

  5. Laducer once gave one of my players a 10 minute misconduct for "staring at him". That same game he gave another player a 10 minute misconduct for saying "crap", after losing the puck. That was also the same game I was tossed out for "looking at him funny". In my five years of coaching that is the only penalty I ever received.

About two weeks later we had Laducer in a state tourny game, against West Fargo. That game, West Fargo had a kid tossed for "slamming the door in on the bench", I was standing about five feet away and this kid did not slam the door any harder than any one else. The West Fargo coach asked Laducer about it and was tossed out of the game.

I cannot understand why this guy is still reffing youth games, let alone high school games. End Laducer rant.

Skateshattrick makes a good point about the talent in ND HS hockey. However, I think some posting on here are not very realistic about that talent. Very few ND kids go on to play D1 hockey. Even more rare is the ND kid who does not leave to play juniors making a D1 squad. Obviously Weisgarber is a D1 prospect, as are Galt and Mihulka. After that there are not many seniors that will likely play college hockey in the state.

Depth has always been the problem with ND HS hockey. This years South team is probably one of the deapest I've ever seen. They have three very good lines. RR also has depth, but they are relying on a lot of Sophomores, at least they have the few times I have seen them play.

As far as North goes, they have first line who would be first line (forwards only) players on almost any team. However, they have no depth. In the past few years Northside youth hockey has been down. Many of the good athletes on the Northside appear to be playing bouncy ball for some reason :)

Good post. I think a lot of people don't realize how difficult it really is to make it to the D-1 game. Just because you are a great high school player does not mean you will adapt to the Jr or College ranks. However, I feel their might be a handful of players who have the ability to play Division 3 hockey somewhere, even if not in the MIAC. South is a extremely deep team this season, and I think thats why it seems everyone else is way behind them (exception to the fact Red River, who upset South). Tough game for North today, having to play an emotional South team who needs a W to stay in the running for the 1 seed.

  6. Talent? On Fargo North? Seriously? Everyone talks about how good those players are but do you guys want to know a little secret? They aren't very good. Klenow = OVERRATED. I went to a North game hoping to see a kid who could go somewhere but all I saw was a player that was constantly dragging behind. I have no idea how anyone can think this kid can play anywhere after high school. OK guys - go ahead and tear me apart because I'm not being very nice and ND Pride why don't you give me some crap about how he is being talked to by junior teams (somehow you know everything about him, weird). I just don't think he's very good. Sorry for stating my opinion, but that is how I honestly feel.

At least we are all voicing our opinions in more civil ways now. To reply to your post Tron3050, I would not call Nick Klenow "over rated". Ever since I can remember (his first year of high school) he has led Fargo North in almost every category (even penalty minutes). Now obviously that alone is not an amazing feat being that North has been anything but spectacular the last few years but it's a start. I don't think he was ever named all conference, but I did here some talk about him mentioned with all conference players which I did not understand. If anything I think he MIGHT be considered under rated? I've watched him play since PeeWee when my son switched from Patriots to Raiders and over the last few years I've seen night and day improvement. Someone mentioned he will start play with the F-M Jets when the high school season ends and I don't think they are going to just pick up anyone. I don't know, a lot of people seem to enjoy giving him and Klein a hard time on here and it I don't think either of them deserve that treatment. Who knows where Klenow will really go after high school, maybe no where, but maybe some where big.

  7. Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster. A few observations about the season so far:

-Fargo South and Red River are the two best teams, without a doubt. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if a team like Grafton or Minot got hot and knocked one off. It only takes one bad game in the state tourney for the whole season to go down the drain.

-The best players in the state are as follows: Paul Weisgarber, the Cousins Campbell, Jarrett Galbreath, Erick Galt, Marc Mihulka, Eli Rosendahl, and Michael Hillman.

-I think the most disappointing team of the year so far has got to be Fargo North. With all the talent they have on the team, one would think that they would be able to put up much, much more offense than they are. The offense is starting to come around a little, but being shut out in 5 out of 7 games to open the season is terrible. It hurts to say that too because those kids are all good guys.

-As for the Mr. Hockey award, I think it is too bad that the voters will focus on stats more than what a kid does for the team. Weisgarber or one of the Campbells will most likely win the award, but if there were an MVP award, I think it would go to Mihulka. It just seems like Red River feeds off him and looks to him to make big plays (i.e., Minot game). He seems like a kid that will be able to throw a team on his back and carry them all the way to the state title. Not saying that Weisgarber or the Campbells aren't valuable, but the Riders without Mihulka would be in the hurt bag badly.

Looking up and down North's roster I only see a two or three players with any significant talent. Maybe I'm missing someone?

  8. Wow you know youre stuff, seeing how I'm not even from Grand Forks, not to mention I havent been in High School for six years. Good point to on how they would be being recruited by D-1 schools if they were that good, seeing how they are SOPHOMORES and recruiting laws prohibit contact between a team and player before the end of their junior season. But I guess its me that doesnt know my stuff right, when you feel like growing up and making meaningful conversation, post again. I have never said that Eric Galt or Paul Weisgarber are not very talented players, but to say that LaDouceur and Galbreath arent amazing talents for their age is just stupid. Never did I state that they are as talented as Ryan Poltuny or that they will be drafted in the 2nd round, I just said that they are two very smart, talented, young defenseman who could definitley one day be D-I prospects. I have also never claimed that Rosendahl is a god, have I once said that he is a Phillipe Lamoureux or Aaron Walski....No. Also, you might not know this but in the one year Rosendahl tried out for elites, he split time with Oakland and had very similar stats. The only reason Oakland left high school is because he was on a terrible team with no sign of improvement. As I stated earlier, you need to grow up and think about what youre saying before you say it. If you dont know your facts, shut up.

Amazingly talented hockey players get drafted into the NHL. That's my point. It's easy to see who the High Schoolers are on this board with the immature responses (jagrfan68). I know nothing about college recruiting? Nothing prohibits players from contacting teams and making a verbal commitment to a college. Jordy Christian, a Jr. at Moorhead High, has not yet completed his Jr. season. How did he commit to St. Cloud? I wonder. Galt is a rare case. As a sophomore Fargo South was loaded with senior defense. He rarely played. Nothing prohibts Dave Hakstol from going up to Galbreath and asking him how his season is going. Nothing. You can recieve letters from colleges and the ruling on those letters are strict, but they can send you information. I'm sure an amazing talent would have boxes full of these letters. Weisgarber himself will tell you he is not an amazing talent. He is a great hockey player but hardly amazing. When you Red River players can come on here and post without favoring your buddies you can maybe post something we will all be interested in reading. Until then, make believe your home town buddies are the next Brian Leetch or Jordan Leopold. Your not fooling anyone saying your not from Grand Forks.

  9. Actually that big defensmen from the Minot JV team was pulled from the line as they were shaking hands and told to get off the ice. Also, during the varsity game Minot JV players came and sat near the RR JV team and they were running there mouth. They were quickly shut up when they realized they lost 4-1.

As stated before RR dominated the second half of the first and whole second period. They came out very flat in the third and Minot capitalized on there odd man rush, and point blank oppertunities. The more i watch LaDoucer and Galbreath the more amazed I am with how good they are. Hope to see them in a Sioux Uniform in a few years.

I hope your kidding about seeing those two in Sioux uniforms. The last thing we need is two defensemen who are going to have trouble handling forwards from Concordia, trying to handle forwards from Denver. If you think saying they'd have trouble with forwards from Concordia is a stretch, give Cory Johnson a call, I'm sure he'd love to have a one on one against them.

  10. There is a lot of talent in ND high school hockey this year. The topic of Juniors is a great one to discuss I believe. I know that Paul Weisgarber of South tried out for Lincoln of the USHL last summer, and I'm assuming he's receiving similar attention from USHL teams this year and he will continue his play there. Teammate Erick Galt really turned some heads last year and I don't think anyone will disagree with me when I say he will also be heavily recruited to play Jr's. Neither of the Campells played Selects last year and through the grapevine I have heard they are looking to focus on college and hang up the skates. I am curious to hear if Grant Larson of Fargo South will give his try at Jr. A hockey? Any thoughts on that? Marc Mihulka is a hockey players hockey player. There is no doubt in my mind he will be successful wherever he plays. I had some interesting news brought to me the other day. My friend frequently talks with the radio announcer for the FM-Jets and rumour was that Klenow (spelling?) of North will play for them when his season ends. Unlikely he'd make a major impact, with no time to adjust. He also mentioned Paul Weisgarber but I could not follow what he was saying. I think it would have to be just practices with team chemistry getting mixed up in all that. In any case it sounds as though we have a few potential Jr players from all over the state.

  11. I just got back from the North - West Fargo game and all I can say is wow. North won 3 - 0 and the story of this game was Justin Welk. North dominated the first period and got all their goals in that period. West Fargo then pretty much dominated the last two peroids. They had many chances but Welk turned all of them away. Klein also played very well. Im not sure on the shots but if North can keep playing like that they could have the potential to maybe knock a WF or maybe even Grafton out of state......

I'm having trouble finding the words to describe this game. North came out in the first and refused to lose. After that they had trouble keeping the offense up except for when its number one unit was on the ice. West Fargo did a great job of picking up the intensity in the 2nd and 3rd but North played solid in the D zone and kept most shots from outside the perimeter. Welk played very strong. I didn't see any shots where he left a rebound. Klein and Fischer carried the team on the scoresheet, working some beautiful give and gos to Klenow and driving to the net. I was most most impressed however with Klenow's play outside the offensive zone. Late in the 3rd he absolutly got demolished behind his net. Instead of laying there like most players, Klenow quickly rose to his feet and tracked down his man, and returned the favor. Thanks to my positioning on the endboards, I was able for the first time to see a guy who is 6'2" cringe.

  12. I think you are dead wrong redwing77 to say that south and red river are the two best teams in the state is a very bold statement. How can you say they are the best, because they have winning records? I'm not saying they aren't the best teams in the state. Don't get me wrong. I just think it is wrong at this point in the season to be making comments like that. There are still 3 very important weeks left in the seasaon. Anything could happen from now to then. South is a very talented team and so is red river, but if you watched them play you would know you can't make that comment. I'm not sure if you were at the game, but if you were and you knew anything about hockey, you'd know red river isn't as good as you're making them out to be. For example did you happen to watch red river try to break the puck out of there own zone. It was like watching a batam team. They couldn't make a simple headman pass to the guy on the half wall. The defense would get the puck behind the net and do one of three things. They would either: ring the puck as hard as they could and hoped it got out of the zone, throw a bad pass up through their forwards legs, or just simply chip it out and hope it didn't turn into an icing. Their power play wasn't good, to put it nicely. They simply worked hard tonight and wanted it more than south and that's why they won the game. Not because they are the better team. They have a lot of work to do before they can be called one of the best teams in the state. They are a good team and I respect them cause they put on a heck of a game tonight and I really enjoyed watching them tonight. I look forward to seeing them play north at their rink on tuesday.

I also look forward to seeing how south takes this loss. I think this was one of the best things that could have happened to south at this point in the season. Granted no one wants to loose, but I think it's a very humbling experiance for them. This shows that they are human, they can loose, and will again. No one's perfect. South should realize that tonight and take this loss with a grain of salt. They are a great team and have a lot of talent, and I think this loss can only make them a better team.

Walt Disney, for starters can you please string together a few rational thoughts next time you post? Fargo South has lost one game all year. Red River has lost one EDC game all year. The only other team in the state that is even in the same time zone as these two teams is Grafton. What else do they have to do to be considered one of the best teams in the state? You said- "I think you are dead wrong redwing77 to say that south and red river are the two best teams in the state". But then you say "I'm not saying they aren't the best teams in the state. Don't get me wrong.". Make up your mind Walt. I think first you should work on the mechanics of writing a logical paragraph before you start criticizing a teams break out and power play. You refer to Red River's break out as "watching a batam team". Explain to us please, what is a "batam" team? You probably intended to say bantam, but in any case, you hardly have enough intelligence to make a legitimate post on what you saw at the game, so I doubt you know as much about the sport as you say you do. In the meantime, if Red River has a lot to work on before they can be considered one of the best teams in the state, who are your top 4? And please don't say the Fargo Flames :D

  13. I wish my first post didn't have to be on a negative subject but since no one else wants to defend Tyler Klein from these bashings, I suppose I will.

As a sophomore Tyler had 22 goals. That mark was 3rd best in the state for goals. Was that a fluke? I don't see how scoring 22 goals can be a fluke. Is his production this season a fluke? I'd say so. North is no better than they were last year, so it's hard to say the table has been titled in Tyler's favor for point production. From my observation Tyler wants to play hockey at the next level, and playing against Wahpeton isn't going to help him get there. I doubt he looks forward to playing against a team thats only option to stop him is to trip him or give him a cheap shot. I could be wrong. Maybe you know him personally and he is out for the goals and the glory, and could care less about his teams W/L's. I doubt it though.

I was able to work with Klenow at a hockey camp this summer and I only have a few things in his defense. Apparently he popped his jersey at the crowd? This doesn't surprise me, being that the only person he talked about all week was Danny Irmen (original jersey popper). After talking to some parents I learned it wasn't as big of deal as some made it. Unlike Danny, Klenow popped his jersey at the North fans. Thats about all I can think of. He is pretty assertive and I'm sure if he catches word of this he'll come defend himself.

If they do see this- Keep working. Everything will fall into place.
