  1. I am staying at the Hilton Garden Inn 2 blocks from Ford Field. I got the rooms on Easter last year at $149 a night before they jacked up the rate. If the Sioux do not go I will have 1-2 extra rooms. I will not know if they are available until the sioux are out or in the Frozen Four but if anyone is interested you can let me know.

  2. Tough loss to end the season. How often do the Sioux put 45 shots on net, score 5 goals, have a 2 goal lead with under 10 minutes left in the game, and still lose? Fans will get over this loss, but it is a tough one to swallow. Arguably one of the biggest mini-meltdowns in recent UND seasons. I think trying to score a 6th goal would have been a better idea than trying to hold the lead. It seemed as if they were playing "not to lose" instead of "playing to win" by changing up what they were doing throughout the game. A very different look next year with the 8 seniors, and possibly Vande leaving. They all give it their all, sometimes you just watch and say "what the &%& is he doing out there". I will say I will miss Finley when he was playing good, and won't miss games like today. There is a lot of leadership that will need to be replaced both on and off the ice. Interested in seeing who will step up!!

  3. I am not a fan of the Fargo South Bruins, and definitely think it is unacceptable to damage a locker room because you lost a hockey game, but let's get over ourselves for a minute here. They made a big mistake, and they cleaned up after themselves, as quoted by the coach in the paper. The school AD said they have not yet received a bill. Were any of you in the locker room? Did any of you see what they were doing? You "heard" it was not peanut butter, but do you know if it was or was not peanut butter? I highly doubt it, so let's not speculate and make up rumor when the only ones who know what happened there are the players and staff from Fargo South HS. Let's try give the coach a chance to make some changes. If this becomes a recurring theme with the Fargo South team, something will have to be done.

  4. That isn't going to happen. Blais has said he doesn't want to coach college again. I remember reading that somewhere.

I believe he was in an interview on one of the local news stations talking about the USHL and how he enjoys it and wouldn't go back to college. To hope for Blais to come back to replace Hakstol is probably never going to happen. Let's hope they can get it straighened out and try to take a couple wins from BSU this weekend. Losing to the bottom feeders of the WCHA and CCHA in back to back games wasn't exactly the prime of UND Hockey.

  5. Judging by reading some of the comments on this topic, some people think the team is just not that talented.....so who is to blame? Who recruited these players? Coaches. Who runs the practices? Coaches. Who beats this cycle, cycle, cycle system to death? Coaches. Creative players come to UND to die it seems of late.

One small thing that has lead to a lack of development out of the defensemen? Brad Berry. He spent a lot of time working with the Defensemen outside of practice. Maybe they should try to get him to help out on a volunteer basis or something. I believe he is back in town.

I like the coaching staff, and I think they do a lot of good things, but the team lacks offensive creativity, and the coaches are part of that reason. You can blast me all you want, but in the end, you know it's true. We've seen what creative offense can do the past few years with B.C. Oh yeah, and what was that Blais used to say? "Speed Kills."??

  6. Best post of this thread!

Hilarious! Actually I think it is the lady making the taco in a bag! She wasn't exactly too generous with the taco meat last time.....

I didn't even notice that this topic was the first post for the thread creator.

Back to topic.... I think all the video board watching and all the stuff put up on the video board has quieted the crowd as well. They want you to watch the board and then no one is cheering. Quit telling stories up there. Play music, or let the band play, and get people EXCITED about the game at hand!

  7. I think the PA guy does a decent job. I am sure it is not an easy job. Can he improve? Sure, but who can't? If you want to complain about something regarding the Ralph, let's talk about the music......

I really like the music that is played at the Ralph. It's great!! There can be fast-paced action during the game, and the genius running the music will play John Denver, or some other song that has no reason being played at a hockey game. You have to admit, as a fan, that gets you JACKED! I know it does me! I bet it gets the players pumped as well. I bet if you wrote down the order of the songs on Friday night, they would be nearly exactly the same for saturday night. Here is a crazy idea, find some new music. Then when you do find some new music, play it.

Also, maybe have the band learn a few more songs. As college students, I bet that they can learn more than 2-3 songs. And finally, maybe have the team perform on the ice at the level that people want to cheer about!

  8. His blog title is ''ignorance on my behalf". The ignorance is that he wrote a blog article that was so flawed with errors that people noticed and he probably felt like a dumb-A&&. Then he follows up with more garbage. Thorn, if you are reading siouxsports, try spellcheck with your articles, or have someone intelligent read them before you post them. That will help with your "ignorance."

  9. http://fans.nhl.com/members/Thorn058/blogs/24112

    Pretty informative read. Thoughts, reflections?

It is actually tough to read the article. Souix?? Try Sioux! What a waste of the public education system. Too many other spelling and grammatical errors to even start putting them all down. There was really nothing in that blog that was "new" news. In his profile, it says his location is Grand Forks. Buddy, you live in Grand Forks and are trying to write a blog article. Don't be disrespectful and at least spell SIOUX right!

  10. The game was good the fans were not it felt like i was the only one cheering at all until a goal, i mean its like the first hockey game in such a long time people! Within the first 5 minutes there was a fight our guy lost and dislocated his shoulder. the score was 1-0 after the first Sioux falls they scored with 8 seconds left to go into the 2nd we scored one and then another but then once again with 8 seconds left they scored to tie it up. They fell apart in the 3rd letting 2 goals in during the Force power play that was ugly! The final score was 5-2. Mike Lee looked really great as a goalie he only let in 1 in the first so im thinking he may get starting goalie position. Nick Thielen looked pretty good as home town kid, i forget his name but the players numbers that looked good to me were 15 and 25 (Joshua Birkholz.) it was a sold out game which was awesome to see too bad it didnt feel like it with the lack of crowd noise.

With all the tickets they gave away, I hope it was a full house!

  11. Having two shooters (Dunc and Kozak) on the same line works if they are both skilled at the feed as well. Now Dunc is excellent in that area but Kozak couldn't make a touch pass to save his life and putting him on a line with Dunc would be horrible. Could you emagine seeing Dunc parked in his favorite spot wide open waiting for a little touch feed pass from Kozak-I see Kozak firing the puck at lightning speed right at the goalie hoping to nail that little opening. Now if the goalie makes the save but gives up the rebound, can you emagine Dunc winning the battle for the puck to get a shot off? Wouldn't work often...

Many of those Dunc scoring opportunities would be wasted. If Dunc is on a line with Kozak I bet he doesnt get many more than 10 goals next year while on the ice with Kozak.

Now I haven't seen Gregoire (26A in 38 games) or Toews (51A in 44 games) play, but their stats suggest they have set up skills, heck maybe even Hextall (48A in 53 games) will show some talent in that area (I think Hextall is going to be a suprise)??

All that I know is outside of Trupp I can't think of anyone returning from last year that would complement Dunc well.

Given the make-up of the returning players the Sioux are in a situation where a returning Hobbie winning senior might just be best servered playing on a line with freshmen.

That would be unusual wouldn't it.

So i stick with the "Natural" line 16-17-18 even though it is actually quite unnatural.

You took the time to write this up, even copied the line combos in your post, yet decided that it was not important to spell KOZEK correctly.

  12. Ok then...off to Green Bay and then?? Interesting, but there is a previous situation like this that happened at UND a few years ago so maybe he'll be back? But I doubt it.

Quinn Fylling left UND to go back to the USHL and came back after a year.

  13. the most embarrassing part of the whole ordeal isn't that the officials missed a call, but how the red river student section and several other fans reacted after the overtime goal was scored by littering the ice with trash, signs and then throwing things at the grafton players as they celebrated....it was a disgusting act of childish, spoiled, self righteous disrespect and the administrators and teachers at red river should be absolutely embarrassed with the way they were represented by the students and fans. absolutely disgusting...

Yeah, UND fans NEVER throw anything on the ice.

  14. It was a good game. No reason arguing about who won, who lost, who got screwed. It's not changing now.

anyone have thoughts on next year? Will Red River re-load like normal? Will GFC be the top team in Forks next year? What about G-PR, they were loaded with Juniors, repeat? Will Fargo South be back with a talented team?

  15. ladoucer?? really?? have you never left the west or can you just not spell?

How does one become "arguably the most physical defensemen in the state"? Who argues it? Who doesn't argue it? How do you even compare something that is "arguably" I'm not even arguing the abilities of Rehak, as I believe he is a very good defensemen. You know what they say about "almost winning" though right? It's still losing to the team that "almost won" and winning to the team that "almost lost"...
