  1. Roebuck said on the coaches' show last night that it's pretty much a given that the regional will be in Vermillion due to their regular season sweep of UND. I agree. Prior to each getting their second loss last week, both Concordia-St. Paul and Fort Lewis would have had arguments, but probably not now (unless USD were to somehow lose twice this weekend).

If USD loses the NCC tourney Fort Lewis would be the only team with one region loss. The NCAA in their wisdom may stick it to the NCC? Been here three years in a row? I hope not but stranger things have happened.

  2. I know that Kimbrough was an outstanding high school player and Kierah is an extremely humble person. She is not the type of person that can run down the court with her fist in the air when she makes a good play. Believe that she is excited and she does have energy and wants to win as much as anyone on the team.

I think emotion in the game is a great thing. I was bring up a point someone else made earlier about mvp and the way she plays. We need to have more emotion on this team aka Langen, Maffin.

  3. Sometimes it seems being on the top team is a key "unofficial" criterion (see Boese over Quigley), and sometimes it's not (see Quigley over Kimbrough last year). Hard to say how much that will factor into things.

You really thought Kimbrough should have got it over Quigley?? Stats do not mean a thing anymore?? Its based on how excited she plays and has energy? Come on Quigley was the real clydesdale 23pts 14 boards/game. National player of the year!! As for Boese the NCR did not agree as Quigley was NCR player of year. It should be the best player in the league regardless of standing!!

  4. Ditto....I think she is even verble about her switches, which other players droppped...Don't blocked shots and defensive rebounds count as defense? but has such a bad rep about D...quite sure other teams would LOVE to have her as a liability and quite sure they didn't recruit her for her defense.

We were talking great players. I dont believe you can be the best player if you are poor on defense. She does not verbal switches doesnt step in to stop penetration and positions poorly on the posts. She has been pulled out of games for not playing defense. You can not just outscore your man and call it defense. I did not say i don't like her on the team.

  5. I should have clarified myself and said better teams. I was thinking of top 10 teams that will have a chance at nationals; Mankato is nowhere near winning nationals.

Not a word was said about replacing Guinn, either. I just would like to have seen Lafrance get some playing time out there against a press because of her court vision. Five-time defending state champions, Mandan, who is infamous for their defense and pressing the heck out of teams, did not press against her because she was so good at breaking it single-handedly.

I'd like to also comment on Kimbrough's play last night. She played so well on both ends of the court, but only shot the ball five times and still managed 17 points! Aside from Langen's eight turnovers, she also played exceptional!

Kimbrough was 7-10 from the free throw line. So she shot the ball 10 times. The perimeter players getting the ball to the posts is poor. Seay is really poor at seeing the post. Dont know if she is afraid of turning it over or what. She is playing well except for that.

  6. Kimbrough was recruited by many, many D-I schools. They weren't small ones either - Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, etc. She is by far my favorite player to watch because she gets excited and she plays with so much quickness and finesse. She has the ideal build for a post, and her talent is mind-boggling. She, no doubt, could have been a star at a big time college. Yet, UND landed her, and the program has maintained its tradition because of her. That's taking nothing away from other players. The program would not maintain as well if Langen, Boese, or Jahner would not have been here either. However, in my opinion, I feel Kimbrough is the best player to play here.

With all due respect you must only be watching the offensive side of the ball. To be the best all-time you need to be able to play a little defense. She lacks that big time. That problem would have only been worse at D-I. Crouse has my vote

  7. Kimbrough was God's gift to UND! In the end, whether it shows statistically or not, I think she will have been the best player to ever play for UND.

You will have to defend that one for me. She is a wonderful athlete and a great offensive player. But there is more to the game than that.

  8. Beyond this year, I have to believe that the state of UND WBB is excellent. With the local girls thriving for the team the fans should come. Kimbrough is as I had expected (check posts from last year) offensively, but where she could have issues is on the defensive end. Roebuck will have a quick trigger if she cannot defend properly. Bagaason needs to realize that she isn't the only weapon (as she was mostly last year for Fosston) and needs to look to pass before shoot to be affective. Langen seems to be down this year to me. She seems lethargic and not in NCC shape. Perhaps she put back on the weight she had lost? Jahner is a floor leader and cannot be compensated for on her hustle. Boese is Boese I'll leave that alone, there is a reason she was a preseson All-American. Maffin has impressed me a lot over the last year or so. I had mixed feelings about Roebuck recruiting her, but she has obviously put her time in the gym and deserves to be out there. Ledger is a Roebuck player if I have ever seen her. Shes a bruiser and isn't afraid of contact, which sometimes gets her in trouble, but in the end oh well. Guinn has been doing a lot of point work and I believe that could be her role after the departure of Mahlum. Mahlum right now is the "weakest link" her defense is fierce but the offense is not so much. I think the Sioux are in good shape for a long time.

Do you mean Langen's point production is down or not as effective? Points are down because you have four people averaging double figures. That's a good thing I think! You have four people in double figures because of the zones they play against her. When you are being triple teamed in a zone you are less effective than the man defense they play when the other posts come in. It's really good the outside game has stepped up to the challenge. My guess is zones will be the defense of choice untill the NCC season starts.

  9. Interesting comments in the Grand Forks Herald from St Cloud's coach about how loud and intimidating it was in the Betty.

If 1500 people, last nights attendance, can be intimidating, imagine what 4000 would be like.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I thought last nights crowd was really poor. With a win needed in an NNC semi-final game to secure a home court for the regional playoff that was a poor effort. You don't have to worry about 4000 because Grand Forks doesn't have the support for the womens program. These girls have been playing there hearts out the last few weeks to get this tournament at the Betty!! We respond by not even getting the place half full and sitting on our hands most of the first half. POOR EFFORT!! Take out the St. Cloud people and your bearly over 1000 people. Come on!! If these girls win this tourney it was all there effort not our help!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. I heard a rumor from a couple of different people at the basketball games this weekend that all games next year will be played at the Betty. The only thing is, I think they may need to somehow add some more seating at both ends (larger portable bleachers) to increase the capacity to something over 4000. In conference play this year, UND averaged just under 4000--with three of the six games having crowds exceeding 4000--so I think the capacity needs to be at least 4200 and preferably a bit more than that if at all possible. It's not as though this year has been unusual in terms of demand for tickets, and with next year's women's team looking like it could be special, I think demand will only increase.  4000-plus in the Betty would be an incredible atmosphere, although with no concourse, which is something both Hyslop and the Ralph have, and relatively few concession stands compared to the Ralph, the comfort level for the fans will decrease a bit, as well.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I have a friend at the REA in accounting. This person says scanned tickets (people actually attending), have only been over 3000 once. Attendance figures include all tickets sold even if you do not go. The Betty would have no problem holding the crowds so far. So lets get the, over there
