You do realize that for every home hockey game they play the very same team again the following night, don't you? I'm sure a lot of people go to either the Friday game or the Saturday game, but not both. Of those 11,701 fans... I doubt that more than half were at both games. I think it's pretty safe to assume that more than 17,142 fans were at one of the two games.
How many people do you see wearing jerseys, hats, sweatshirts or whatever for "Badger hoops"? A lot less than "Badger hockey", that's for sure. Same goes for the Gophers. I see a lot of "Gopher hockey" stuff being worn, very little "Gopher hoops".
We live in a place where it gets cold enough to make ice outside. This is hockey country, and most of us don't have any interest in bouncey-ball. Sorry if that's so hard for you to accept, but it's the truth. Don't you have an anti-hockey forum where you can spew your garbage?

It's bouncey-ball. The people who support schools that have hockey teams, for the most part, don't care about bouncey-ball very much (if at all). I'm sure the people in Madison were more interested in the hockey series vs. Denver than the bouncey-ball game vs. NDSU.
I love UND hockey and football. D-2 or D-1AA... either way is fine with me. Our football program will be a success at either level. I simply could care less about the bouncey-ball team, D-2 or D-1.
According to the Wisconsin site, Kohl seats 17,142 for basketball, 14,000 for hockey.
According to the NCAA, Wisconsin averaged 17,142 per game in '04 for baseketball, 11,701 for hockey...you do the math...

The one thing I'm truly--and I mean TRULY--thankful for this year is that DaveK is a Sioux fan....with all the crap he spews, both here and on Bisonville, can you imagine how you folks would nail us if he was a Bison fan!?!?!?!?

UND may have to move up to Division I if they wish to make money.
Something that a number of people, including me, have tossed around is the frozen four monies. I can't find a reliable estimate of how much is distributed, though. ESPN has an article stating that from '81 to '91 the tourney dispersed an average of $100,000 per year to the tournament teams, with the highest year being about $650,000 to the field of 12. Since then, though, they've changed the format, and the monies don't go to the teams but to the D1 conferences that each belongs to.
So, does anyone know how much is being distributed now? I know the revenues have gone up greatly in the last few years....

I think it's a list of schools that have either moved up to I-AA in the last 20 years or so or have added football in that same time frame.

Okay, I sat and went through every school and wrote down their information. Because I did it all by hand I may have switched a few numbers up. If anyone catches any mistakes let me know so that I can change them. The numbers look like they are all from 2003. Sorry I couldn't get it in a better graph so that it was easier to read.

That'd be a first assumption I'd have to go with also. (That could cause that "miraculous" alignment of costs and revenues.)
From what I've heard, that's not the case--waivers may be under consideration for the future, but I don't believe they've been used in the past...Maybe Irv is just better than you guys think?!

Coach Bohl should have had you out on the field for the first 55 minutes of NDSU's Homecoming game.
I probably would have been much more effective for the last minute of the UND/UNO game!

In one of the recent articles in the Sioux Falls newspaper discussing the DI and DII issues, there was a comment about UM-Crookston struggling athletically and as an institution. Obviously, they do have a lot of progress to be made athletically but I was unaware they were having problems otherwise.
Can anyone enlighten me?
They brought in a new provost a couple of years ago who wasn't very popular and who left rather abruptly...guy who replaced him is the guy who was in charge of the UofMn Cooperative Extension re-organization, so I think that may have started some rumors. I have heard folks from GF talking about the school having some problems, but haven't heard anything specific....

I'm not sure what the deal is with the link I posted earlier, but after awhile, it seems to change from the UND information to the NDSU information. I've changed it twice already, and it has eventually changed back to the NDSU information each time. So I guess instead of changing it again, I'll just give a heads-up that this is an ongoing problem.

I don't know. I do know that a few years back (ZPar's freshman year) the Store Manager of the Scheels on 13th said that their UND attire was outselling NDSU's. I'm not saying that UND is more popular in Fargo than NDSU, but it really surprised me to hear that.

Part of that might be due to Varsity Mart at NDSU...their prices and selection are better than Scheel's for NDSU gear....I read the same story, though....

GCWaters: That's why I'm interested in the FY05 (ended 06/30/05) EADA data for all of the schools in the region. I want to see how each is uniquely doing their budgets.
However, with the numbers I have available (NDSU's are FY 02 and from their CSL Market Study; UND's are FY04 and from their IAC website) here are the revenue sources listed in each budget:
NDSU:
Tickets and Donations - 35%
Student Fees - 12%
Institutional Support and Appropriated (State) Funds - 33%
UND:
Tickets and Donations - 75%
Student Fees - 13%
Institutional Support and Appropriated (State) Funds - 0%

To determine the validity of Proctor's statement, you'd have to look at the student fee allocation over several years to see if it changed at all. I'm guessing that would have been reported in the student newspaper, but it might be hard to run down now...

Since NDSU began its transition, it would seem that NDSU and UND have had the same number of established DI conferences asking each to join.
The issues remain unchanged: conference and money.

As far as money, I'm interested in seeing the Fiscal Year 2005 numbers (EADA data for July 2004 through June 2005) for both UND and NDSU. The last reports I heard for each were that UND was coming in about $200k in the red for the year and that Mr. Inniger was $600k short of the $1 million he alone (outside or Team Makers) he needed to raise to make budget. What are the real final numbers and what can be learned from each set?

If NDSu does finish $200,000 in the red for the year, that would still be half of the $400,000 in red ink that the EADA reported for UND in 03-04....not sure I see your point here....

Universities also have to report on-campus crimes each year...the Chronicle of Higher Education reports these figures on a yearly basis--you should be able to find UND's online somewhere...

Read the original post--I noted that. The point is that basketball, with more seats, sold out every game two years in a row. Hockey is a couple thousand short, per game, on average...now, where's thay yawn smilie?!?
