  1. Dude, my softball and broomball teams have been partially sponsored by the Hoggsbreath for at least 12 years. I've never experienced anything like what you are referring to above. We are usually in there on Tuesday or Thursday evenings after our games. Obviously, the "crowd" might be a little different on your typical Saturday night. Drug raids? I've never heard that one...

Back when the had the Pizza joint upstairs, and the dog was downstairs. You could get a little more than just a beer there.

At any rate, glad you enjoy it. My house is about 2 miles from there, I know the owner. I won't go in there. Good luck next weekend!

  2. The service was unbelievably slow, but we got our food free as a result. Nothing sketchy occurred, but I suppose that's the benefit of being there at 11 am rather than at night.

Free food is always good. Rice St. at bar close is not a good place to be either, but that is not unique to the Doggsbreath. Glad it all worked out.

  3. Well, I WAS at the X, for all 5 games! And yes, I saw alot of sloppy drunks, and more wearing maroon/gold than green, but there were plenty of abusive loud-mouths on EACH side of the cheering aisle. And WTF was with the Sioux fans wearing the Holy Cross jerseys? What're they, nine years old? I was actually only embarassed that the same people, holding up letter cards ended up spelling "H-O-L-Y-C-O-R-S-S." If you're gonna dis the opponents, at least make sure you're not too drunk to SPELL! (Inside, I did enjoy the joke, tho!)

The "booing" for the 9-year old was a repeated thing during the tourney, where the announcer would have one rep of each team, and EVERYONE booed for their opposing representative, including the Sioux fans! It was part of the fun and festivity! If you REALLY thought this was mean-spirited booing of a child, then you're totally bereft of any sense of humor. Get real!

You seriously think "the Sioux players dogged it all game?" "MTU and Wisconsin?" What color is the sky in your world? The Sioux played a damned fine game, and except for some dumb penalties, made VERY few mistakes! This was a hard-hitting, fast paced game, between 2 legendary rivals, with 2 VERY good teams!

Admittedly, the Gophs had to play their best (except for the 0-for-8 PP, that is!) to beat the Sioux, but DO NOT compare this weekend's Gopher team to the one playing when we swept them at Mariuchi - during the couple of months after Christmas, EVERY team was able to beat them, but they seem to have found the grit they had during the early season, and I think they can play with anyone right now. And the Sioux have gotten guys back from injury, and gotten someone besides the DOT line to play hard and score. The finals at Denver should be a VERY good game, between, arguably, the 2 best teams in college hockey!

    GO SIOUX!!!!!

I did not think the green and white dogged it either. I was there with a buddy (Sioux fan, in jersey, in the seats that I bought......) and as the game was going into OT, I told him that even if the Goph's lost, I would still be happy, it was a great game.

I found plenty of well lubricated fans wearing green and white, and maroon and gold. My 7 year olds got taunted by Sioux fans after the Holy Crap game. The line I remember most was Effing little A$$ Gopher losers. Nice, made them cry. The positve is that hopefully they will remember how it felt and not do it when they get older. We also met plenty of decent Sioux fans as well. We just need to work on educating the knuckleheads. It is just a game.

Next weekend should be a fun. Looks like the winner of our regional should be the team to beat.

    Good luck.

  4.

MafiaMan's friend told us as we were leaving the Hoggsbreath that a bouncer accidentally killed a drunk patron in the parking lot a couple of years ago. He was kneeling on the drunk guys neck. ;)

    The food was good! :)

    **Gopher fan alert**

Holy Cross!!! How did you guys decide on the Hogsbreath? I live about a mile and a half away, and even I do not go in there. For being in a suburb that place has had a rough history. (drug raids, and the aformentioned issues). As much as I am a Gopher fan, I would hate to have any hockey fan get hurt there.

    How were you treated?

  5. Yeah, I bet we get a few unsubscribes from this weekend  I'll admit I did not anticipate this particular crazy glitch. Though scores don't necessarily come across the wire in a reliably timely fashion, they've always come out consecutively before.

The feeds from Mariucci, however, seemed random. They would put out a score from the 2nd, but then 10 minutes later put out a score from the 1st. While the program wasn't stupid enough to send that score out, it did record the "last seen" score as being from the 1st. Then if Mariucci sent out a score from the 2nd again, it looked like a new one so was resent.

I get a message with every score change, so unlike the 10 or so you got, I got about 30. Needless to say I've patched things. It now ignores any updates in which either score decreases.

    Stupid Gophers

I thought I was dreaming, until shut off my phone alarm, and got this kids up for hockey practice. Turns out it wasn't the alarm, it was a message alert. It wasn't 7:30 am, it was 5 something.

Ahh, well. I had to get up anyway, right?

  6. So I wonder if Lucia is going to have one of his players run our goalie over and elbow him on the way down.

Watched the game last night and Gordon (I believe that is he name) blantly gave Fisher a little extra.

If they do that to our team I can definately seeing a brawl erupting. I think its funny that people are trying

to say that he was pushed so that excuses the taking out a goalie. Although in a way its kind of funny because I can't

stand the cocky denver team or their coach.

He definitely was pushed. He also definitely could have entirely avoided Fisher.

Interestingly enough, Fisher flopped on Friday night leg his leg had been removed from his body. So, he can act, too.

  7. As you all know by my posts (few they may be, I just don't believe in trolling), I too am a Gopher fan. Mainly in support of keeping the Sioux name, but an occasional hockey thread as well. I truly believe that come March, I will be lending my support to whatever team has to face the Sioux on Thurs or Friday. I expect your record to pick up some steam this weekend, and make it to St. Paul in March. (of course, I can't cheer for your squad anymore than you can cheer for mine)

    Don't drink the Koolaid!

  8. So you admit that parking in crease is in fact part of their game plan, or are you denying that as well? As far as running the goaltender, it's happened on more than one occasion this year.

I actually had not considered parking in the crease one way or the other. The only thing I know for sure about parking in front of the net is you get the crap beat out of you. :D

I was pointing out that for all of the posts on this topic, none had even mentioned, let alone be bothered by the retaliatory crash. As for running the goaltender, I don't think there is an official stat for it, but I doubt the Gophers do it any more than the Sioux, Badgers, Huskies, Wolverines etc.

  9. With the goophies propensity to stand in the crease, and now run goalies, I hope one of our d-men (uh-hum maybe #2) starts using some brute force to clear out the front of the net.

I have not read anyone mention the Maverick player still churning his legs as he crashed into the Gopher goaltender. I doubt that running over the netminder is a part of the Gopher game plan.

  10. Last I heard it was a tendon, and surgery was supposed to be today.

I did not play hockey as a kid, but am wondering if you are on your back sliding toward the net, do you move your body so you go feet 1st rather then head first? Do you have enough time to make and adjustment?

  11. Hey everyone. I know it is a little early to start thinking about road trips, but here goes.

Same deal as 2 years ago. (you guys did not go there last year. Had to deal with CC fans....) We get better seating if we buy in a 4 pack. We had awesome lower level on both nights. I am interested in the Gopher Sconny series, and would sell the Sioux Sconny at face to whomever is interested.

You guys fall in pretty early in Wisco, Oct 13/14 while we have to wait til early January..

I will have 10-20 tickets availible each night. I want to sell them so you get Fri, and Sat. Just less hassle for me.

Let me know if you are interested.

When interested, you can email me at mmurphy@rayven.com. I have had a pretty good response so far. It did not take long to get rid of them last time, although I am starting a bit earlier this year. I just like to sit closer, knowing that there are thousands of badger fans, with seats that are not nearlier as good as the ones my group will be in...

  13. I want to hear from PETA on the Gophers? Or the Fighting Irish. I guess the darlings of the NCAA would never do any wrong.

As a Gopher fan, my condolences on losing this battle. As many of you have posted already, I sense that the war is just begining.

Perhaps there is a link in this thread somewhere, but has the NCAA ever stated the difference between Fighting Sioux, and Fighting Irish? I bet that would be a pretty good laugh.

Damn, I bleed maroon and gold. My Kids cried when all you jerks cheered at Holy Cross's OT goal (well, I teared up a bit too), but I might just have to go out and get a Sioux Jersey in protest of this. :D

  14. The four I things I looked at from last weekend were this. Gophs never had a lead all weekend, Gophs had eight goals scored on them in one game, they were at home, and the Sioux won this tourney with out Drew. That is not the kind of momentum you want coming into a regional, much less a regional in Grand Forks. If I were a gopher fan, I must remind you of a certain Denver team that beat the the "Siouxpermen" two years ago in Colorado and ended up with all the marbles. Oh yea, the WCHA title anchor you picked a couple weeks ago is not going to help the golden cause either. I would have to argue that the physcial and mental grind to bring a conference title home does take a toll and we may have witnessed some fallout last weeknd from the Gophs effort. I pick momentum and the SIOUX.

I don't think the Gophers were really trying to win the WCHA Title. With Sconny collapsing, and ND coming on from so far back, it just kind happened. If you read Lucia's comments on it, he really does not care about the regular season title - so I do not buy they worn out by the grind. Minnesota's season was just as long as everyone elses.

I will buy into them taking SCSU way to lightly combined with not having much competition at the end of the season (UMD, and 4 games of AA) allowed them to breeze through games, and not be sharp. I have never seen them play with heart in a 3rd place game, so I was not shocked at that either.

So for the weekend, I see MN beating HC, with ND using the home ice to beat Mich.

I hope my club wins sat night, but it should be a great game. See you there.

  15. Since UND's awakening in Mariucci in January (a team tired from the WJCs and the Anchorage trip got annihilated on Friday and gutted out a big win on Saturday), UND is 10-5, and the details of their performance are encouraging. Here's a rundown:

    W 6-3 MSUM - Very solid win

W 4-2 MSUM - Cruising to a solid win, and then a lapse in the closing minutes made it close at the end.

L 1-2 SCSU - The Sioux didn't play real well, and lost a very close game.

L 1-2 SCSU - UND played very well by most accounts, but lost in OT.

W 4-2 CC - Another very solid win. A late CC goal made the score closer.

    L 2-3 CC - A tough loss considering UND's third-period lead, but still a very close game.

    W 4-0 UMD - A blowout

    W 5-1 UMD - Blowout

W 6-2 DU - A dominating win from start to finish.

L 3-7 DU - The only meltdown in this stretch. A third-period lead evaporated under a barrage of PP goals.

    W 4-0 MTU - See UMD

W 6-0 MTU - Boom goes the dynamite

L 2-3 MSUM - Similar to the Friday SCSU game, UND lacked intensity but still lost a very tight game in OT.

    W 4-1 MSUM - Solid win.

    W 3-0 MSUM - Solid win.

In 9 of the 10 wins, UND went into the closing minutes with at least a two-goal lead. Basically, they dominated in their wins. In 4 of the 5 losses, UND lost by just a goal, with two of those in OT. Only the DU loss stands out, but even there UND had a third-period lead. Overall, I think their performance over the last two months should be considered encouraging.

Hate to be a buzzkill on the parade, but another way to look at it is while the club went 10-5, 9 of those games should have been gimme's. (2MT, 2 UMD, and 5 MSUM) of which they went 9-1. The balance of the games were from midddle to upper level teams in the WCHA (SCSU, DU, and CC) when the club went 2-4. So there is still plenty of work to do. Should be a great game this afternoon. See you there.

  16. Just like a woman - bringing up the past when we're talking about the present

For the championship game you can always get tix. There are 3 teams that travel well, (well, my club does not have to travel much... ) but even a fan from Mankato state can figure out at least on fanbase of the 3 (North Dakota, Sconny or the Gophs) will not have their own team to root for... Best place to pick them up is find someone in a jersey who's team has just lost on Friday. They can trade tix for cash or beer to drown their sorrows!

    See you there.

  17. The Super Bowl & It's Pro-Pittsburgh Style:

I felt the officiating last night in the Super Bowl was horrific. You could definitely tell who wanted the Steelers to win the 5th ring.

    I will # my complaints:

#1: The call on the pass interference in the endzone was the absolute worse call I've ever seen in an NFL game which called back a touchdown against Seattle.

#2: The 1st Pittsburgh TD wasn't even a TD. The ball is clearly in Rothlisberger's midsection when he hit the goal line. Rather then 4th and 1 a TD and who knows if they would even had scored. That play turned the game around.

#3: Seattle scored another TD in the 4th when the WR caught the ball came down inbounds w/ one foot and the other foot kicked the endzone marker (the officials gave Michael Vick a TD on MNF this year).

#4: With Seattle driving near to goal line a WR caught the ball at the 2 yard line and they ruled a "phantom" holding penalty where the announcers even said a bad call. Next play an interception where Pittsburgh scored again to make it 21-10.

    Here's the point totals:

    #1 - Would have given Seattle a 7-0 lead rather then 3-0

#2 - Who knows but Pitt maybe doesn't even score to keep Seattle ahead 7-0

#3 - Seattle would have been ahead 17-7 with this TD that wasn't called

#4 - Another 3 or 7 points would have been scored w/ the ball inside the 5 perhaps Seattle 24-14

Yes, the crew had it out for Seattle. First time entries into the Super Bowl vs. Pittsburgh 7th or 8th. Plus Lord knows how many billions of $ were riding on Pitt winning by 5 or 6 to cover the spread.

Pretty shady if you ask me.

I know this doesn't pertain to Sioux Hockey but it's controversial like everything else on here.

    Let me know fans.

The pass interference was a jickyjack call, but the Rothlisberger TD did not bother me. Official called in on the field (albeit belatedly) and I did not think there was enough to overturn it.

3 I thought it was out of bounds

4 was a horrible call. I only hope they had the wrong # becuase the guy they called it on was not holding.

All in all, it was better than the Pitt Indy game.
