  1. Your incident is unfortunate and I would bet 98% of true Sioux fans agree. I'm sure you read earlier posts on this thread regarding vandalism of my truck a few years ago at the Final Five. At the very same tournament, an adult Gopher fan walking by a group of Sioux fans having a conversation poked the chest of my then-8 year old kid (making sure to point out the Sioux crest on the jersey he was wearing) and yelled 'F*** the Sioux' at him. Before I could even say a word to this guy or pound his drunk Gopher face in, one of St Paul's finest quickly grabbed me and said 'let it go...this happens all the time when the Sioux win here.'

Many of your fans won't be missed either...

Which is no good. But when you drop the Tool line, you (well, him/her not you personally) are just making my point. There is no room for any of it. Theoretically our kids are the next generation of fans. Why turn them off. Why call people names when it is brought up?

Some people just do not get it. The odd thing is, that I have brought them to other venues and never had an issue.

Ah well, they are in every bunch I guess.

  2. Wow is this pathetic! I could give examples of this at the REA from goof fans during a home game against the rodents. My daughter was 8 than, and the jerk of was trying to pick a fight with a 70 year old Sioux fan. But hey, make sure your claim "all Sioux fans are like the ones you encountered" Maybe I should do the same? Tool......

Thanks for the "tool" line. With ignorance like that, it is easy to see why your fanbase got the reputation they have. You did a better job illustrating my point than I did.

  3. Nice post. :silly: Do we really want to talk about examples of fans being d-bags? I will tell you one of my old standbys. The Final Five, probably 4 years ago, walking towards Tom Reids bar, a gopher fan yells "The Sioux can suck my...." well, you get what i'm saying. As he yells this, he is grabbing an area of his anatomy. This happened as a game was getting out, with hundreds of fans walking on the narrow sidewalks of St Paul, children included. There are many of these stories, across all fanbases, I have met some really nice gopher fans in the past, and shared beers with them. I will miss that.

Bummer, did they yell that at you, or your 5 year old children? Just one A-hole, or several groups? Indefensible either way, but If someone had said that to me, I would not have cared any more than I suspect you did.

  4. Have not posted here for quite a while. That being said now is a good time to break the silence. (not that anyone really cared :) )

I will miss the rivalry as far as the talent level of the team to be named later goes. They have always been competitive, even more so late in the season when it counts most. It will be tough to find the intensity anywhere else.

I can do without the post whistle sillyness that always seems to occur when MN plays the team from 94 West. I am sure it happens when the Gophers play other teams as well, but definitely not with the frequency I have seen historicly, and I expect to see this weekend.

Regarding the fan base... Welll, if I never see another Whioux fan, I am good with that. I am sure that there are decent, grounded fans of your team out there, but I have not met them. When your fan base started hurling F-Bombs at my 5 year olds in Grand Forks a few years back, you lost me. If they wanted to rip me because I was wearing Maroon and Gold, that is fine. (dumb, but fine) I am a big boy and I can dela with it. But when groups of people start yelling and swearing at kids, (adults were doing this, not teenagers) it is pretty disgusting. Not sure how that made them feel tough, dropping the FBomb on kids til they cried and laughing. Pretty pathetic.

So, if I never come across a ND fan again, fine with me. You will not be missed.

Meanwhile, it should be a good series this weekend. Hopefully the games are close, and no one gets hurt.

  5. I'll disagree. I think it was the right call. The forward clearly kicks the puck (albeit towards his stick rather than towards the goal) and the angle of that action results in the puck going into the net. I realize that the rule states it needs to be directed toward the crease, and it was "sort of". I think the question is would you allow it if it was the game winner with 0:03 seconds left? I think not, because it was debatable. While this call clearly influences the outcome of the game, it did not "give" a win or a loss. The key piece is that the BC defenseman ties up the ND forwards stick and drives him to safety. If he failsin that endeavor it is a tap-in goal that would stand regardless.

I think they blew the call, and that the call on the ice should have stood.

But in looking at the posts on this thread, we are all looking at the same replay, and coming up with different interpretations of the event. That leads me to believe that the rule needs to be changed, redefined, or something along those lines. There should not be as much room for interpretation as we are having now...

  6. Maybe getting to 4 Frozen Fours is good enough for the gophers, but not Sioux fans. We measure success by two things, regular season championships and NCAA titles. He has yet to net either one in his four years. Doug W. Hakstol will have his work cut out for him next year.

The team was not ready to play yesterday! We were outplayed and outcoached.

You are right. the season is a total failure. Turn in the tickets if Hak is back. Maybe it is the rink they play. get rid of that too. Maybe it is the players fault. Get rid of all of them as well. Better start all over, right?

I did not mean to disturb you from your self pity party. You may continue. :)

  7. Good call, Gopherguy33. Some of these posts are jaw-dropping.

Notre Dame: 1 Frozen Four appearance in 40 years.

    North Dakota: 4 straight.

Anything can happen when it is one-and-done. And it usually does. Just ask Michigan.

Agreed. I am not a fan of the Sioux, but this thread is ridiculous. Get a grip here folks!

    4 FF's....... :D

Stay away from the kool aid, and sharp objects for a little bit, and everything will be fine. When you are back in the tourney next year, you will not be calling for your coaches head.

  8. Update on this flight. They are still waiting on parts and won't be taking off until 4:30 pm at the earliest.

I booked this flight very early and got 4 tickets for a little over that price. I also talked a lady into a full refund if I don't go tomorrow, so I'm sitting pretty good in that regard. But man, it's gonna be hard watching that game in 3 hours on TV while the tickets are in my hand!

That is a fate that no hockey fan, (even a Sioux fan :D ) should have to deal with .

    Good luck to you!

  9. Al Pearson asked me to post the following information:

A fan bus to Madison will leave from the Ralph at Midnight on Friday and return Sunday following the game. Cost is $190. That's $125 for the bus, $65 for tickets. Al will set up hotel rooms which are not included in the $190 price tag. If you want to go, call Al at 218-779-5740.

    Midnight on Friday??

Any idea what bus company it is, and where you are staying?

I take a crew out of St. Paul to Madison for the Gopher/Sconny series every year. That is a really good price if it is one of those coach buses!

  10. For those coming from Grand Forks or points north, I would stay off of I-94 once you hit the Cities. Take I-94 from Moorhead to the I-694/494 split. Stay on 694 East to I-35E. Take I-35E south right into downtown Saint Paul. You will be coming in on the eastern side of the arena, where there will be ample parking and little traffic. You can walk to the arena faster than you can sit in traffic trying to worm your way into a ramp near the arena.

Remember, it is I-35E, NOT I-35W that you want. If you go south on I-35W by mistake, simply take that to Highway 36 East exit. Take Hwy 36 East about five miles to I-35E. There, go south, right on into Saint Paul.

The folks who attempt to ride in on I-94 around rush hour time may as well kiss their asses goodbye to being in the seats by the time that the puck drops.

My two cents. I am in the know. I know. Trust me.

Most of the schools are having spring break this weekend, so traffic is unusually light this week for both the am, and pm commuting times. Where you will find your biggest delays will be getting a parking spot on Friday afternoon......

  11. You sure about this? 'Cause he's now out of intensive care and upgraded to "fair" condition. In addition, he talked to his coach Monday. Kinda tough to do that when one is in a coma. ;)

That being said, get well Tom Pohl. I've been a big fan of the entire Pohl family for a long time. They all play hockey with heart.

I have been following the situation fairly closely here in the cities, and have not found anything to back that up. There was a radio report that my wife heard that led her to believe things were not going well, but in everything credible the news is positive. Last I heard he had been moved out of ICU, and Lucia is hoping that he will be well enough to travel with the team to the NCAA's (also hoping his team gets to the NCAA's but that is another discussion.

As for 7>5's comments... Your choice of timing leaves a little to be desired.

Thanks for the positive thoughts for #21! Hopefully we will see y'all this weekend.

  12. Sshhhhhhh! Don't go spreading the truth around GPL!

Oh, I wouldn't say we have given up hope, but it is pretty hard to successfully talk trash when you got "hot" at the end of the year and "climbed up" to a 7th place finish.

heck, only half of us have already bought our 2008 Minnesota Gopher Final 5 Championship gear! :D

  13. Again, I personally know a half-dozen Gopher fans right off the top of my head who had tickets for those games and skipped them because "it doesn't matter." The Gopher train is a fickle one...plenty of people have gotten off of it this season...

I'm tellin' ya, if you think a Friday afternoon Gopher/CC match-up would gather more than 16,000 fans, I'd take that bet.

As much as it pains me, it is a factual statement.

I always thought that the rule was more of a cash issue (this is america after all) and the idea was that the out of towners that were coming would show up no matter who was playing, but the local teams fan base would be more likely to turn up for the night game.

At any rate, I suspect that the only Maroon and gold you will find at the x on Friday and Saturday will be in the stands. It has been a long year......

  14. I will be selling my 4 seats for the Frozen Four. Finances, and the fact that my club could not score with Heidi Fleiss have made the decision for me. I got my letter this summer, but have not seen the seat selction as yet. Just selling for face. Would prefer to sell as a group.

    PM If interested.

(If my squad can't win, I would rather someone in the WCHA do it, even if it means I get a year of 8>5...) :silly:

  15. Too harsh! He used poor judgement and in a split second, he acted before thinking. Hak and his players represent UND very very well and I have the utmost respect for Hak and the UND Program.

    Go Sioux!

Monkey, He flipped off a ref on TV. I don't think that is representing the school very well, do you?

That being said, who is being punished here? I think he still get's paid, so you are not really hurting him financially. (no, I don't think you need to either. I am guessing he is plenty embarrassed already) So you are really only hurting the kids on the team.

As a Gopher fan, I think the apology is enough. Maybe fine him and give it to charity or do 20 hrs of community service stuff. 2 games is pretty stiff and uncalled for, IMHO.

  16. One of these days that person will get what is coming to him. I hope he keeps doing it eventually he will tap the wrong person and he will be picking himself off the ground. I know a lot of guys that would have turned around and dropped him. Personally I would turned around and asked him what the hell his problem was. Class act to smack an opposing fan. Not cool at all...

Agreed. It is just a game. There were a bunch of Sioux fans in Stubs after the game on Fri and Sat night that were great, and they were not hassled. There are always a a couple of Aholes in every bunch.

  17. I am sure that is not what the ref was trying to do. (I hate to defend them to)..

I don't agree with Peltier finding one of the smallest players on the ice though. If they want to pair up, then pair up and go. Malone was ready, so just go...

I watched the clip a couple of times, and can not figure out why 2 extra Sioux players had to come in to the scrum. I imagine Peltier would have gotten 5 (although we had one last year where our guy stood and acted like a punching bag, never even threw one and got a 5, so you never know). I guess their is strength in numbers....

  18. Yeah, the butt end he put into the back of Miller's head in December falls within the rules. Link to the scrum here.

Not sure if this is the right link or not. Looks like Bickel gets him with his glove. Maybe you could make an argument for a cross check. Certainly a shot to the head. I think Bickel got 2 in the box for roughing, and the ref was right there. (Unless this is a case of the Sioux getting screwed, but I think that was a different rant  )Let me know if you find the other link.

  19. http://www.mndaily.com/articles/2008/02/01/72165290

Quote: "But there is a difference between being physical and being cheap, and Bickel is the former. "

Really?;)? That's not what I've seen watching him!!!!!!!

Then you have not been watching the right guy. Let me know what you think after this weekend, and the Green and White glasses are off. (ok, maybe after next weekend)

Should be fun tonight. Hope to see some of you there, although I hope you are not right behind me....

  20. So do the Gophers throw Jeff into the Mississippi or do they try to live with him. Remember when Goofer fans were accussing Blaiser of throwing Goalies into the RED RIVER? If they keep him around they are stuck with him for another year. Frazee isn't going to be that great of a pickup for the Professional ranks. I don't see him Bumping anyone out of the AHL team for New Jersey.

I think the club will stick with him. The bigger question is, will he stick with the club. To Frazee's credit, he has not deflected any of the blame for this year. I think he has so many people telling him what to do that he lost himself. If they do not start him, he will be gone anyway... (no, at the level he is playing, it is not a huge loss but if 2006/07 Frazee comes back, he is one of the best in the WCHA)
