  1. It's the memories of my Dad taking me to my first Sioux hockey game in November, 1964. It was in the old barn, and the chicken wire on the end-boards being supported by old hockey sticks is my first memory of that building. It was a flippin quanset for crying out loud, and it was colder than snot. The ice was fast, and the crowds were boisterous, but it was the bonding experience through all those years with my dad that I will always cherish...

  2. We can all agree that this years team has the talent to get it done. However, we have also had teams in the past under Hak that had the talent to get #8. My biggest concern at this time of year is the coaches having the team mentally prepared. I am hoping and praying that the seniors can step up and fill in the gap, and help the rest of the team keep their focus.

THIS IS YOUR TIME BOYS - GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SIOUX!!!

  3. that looks ot be correct. They just renamed the channel (from what I see) and instead of having one feed for ND and one for SD they made it one channel...so instead of showing a teleprompter thing with whats coming up they can actually show more games :)

So - does that mean that Direct TV will no longer have Sioux hockey on FSN? I'm thinking of switching from Dish to Direct TV just so I can watch Sioux hockey...

  4. The barn had a certain magic to it, even though it pales in comparison to the new Ralph. I remember going to my first Sioux game with my Dad in November, 1964. It was against Michigan and I witnessed my first hockey fight. I was in the second grade, and I thought how cool was that to see blood on the ice. Between periods, my buddies and I would walk under the stands looking for treasure (pucks, sticks, money). Witnessed alot of inebriated adults in those days. The consession stands used to sell hot Dr. Pepper in a styrofoam cup with a lemon in it. It sounds gross, but it was awsome when it was -20 inside

  5. This may be the the only way to get a positive change made on this issue in a short time period at Standing Rock. Any political action is going to take time whether it's putting together an election or changing the mind of the tribal council. Unfortunately, there isn't much time left to make it happen.

Let's put it this way. If Murphy gets elected and the BoHE still sticks to the Oct 1st deadline. There will be a torch and pitch fork scene that will boggle the mind. Let's hope Grant Shaft keeps his word on this.

  6. Nothing has been announced yet. Brad mentioned it in his blog earlier this week and said he would ask if they were planning an open scrimmage because he didn't know.

  7. Hats off to Ron His Horse is Thunder and his ability to "grease the squeeky wheel". You may be able to take the name and logo off of UND's jersey's, but you will not be able to snatch the name from the student's and alumni's hearts. :silly:

  8. I went to the Wal-Mart in Devils Lake and the clerk didn't chit chat with me. She just took my money and gave me my receipt. I was so hurt. To this day, I haven't been back.

LOL Sioux-cia!!! That's exactly what what's wrong with (most) who oppose the name/logo. Like Dennis Leary says: lifes hard - wear a f*%$ing helmet. If you base your happiness on how seeing the name/logo makes you feel, then maybe psychotropic medications needs to be applied. You can only get over it when you get over yourself ???

  9. I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but I thought this video was pretty amazing! It is on Youtube under UND Fighting Sioux Hockey. It is called LEGENDS and should be played before every game! If this doesn't fire you up, I don't know what will! GO SIOUX!

  10. Hextall coming in was thought to be more of a grinder then a scorer but since your so busy being pissed off and whining about the team the whole time how would you know that.

Can't you just feel the love? Like farmer Yasser once said: "long hair, short hair, what the hell's the difference once the heads blowed off?" :glare:

  11. No, not necessarily, but he could be running the most intense program. I think i am explaining it wrong, but the best way to put it is this, think of herb brooks in miracle, He worked the players so hard until they hit breaking point, then started to ease the load off. that brings teams together and builds chemistry, and i think it is entirely possible that is what hak does, Somebody has to have the most intense program in college hockey and it very well could be Haks program. I am NOT saying fatigue could be the reason they are playing POORLY, but it could be the reason why there is no intensity during games, why there is no intense forecheck, why there is no big hitting because MAYBE the players could be tired and fatigued.

I don't think that they are "tired and fatigued". I think that Jackson has brought in a watered down version on how he wants Sioux Hockey to be played. I just don't plain like it. The defense needs to step out of their flip flops and start hitting people!!! This isn't Sioux Hockey - it's Flickertail hockey. Break out the pink dresses. :glare:

  12. no sioux fan is going to argue with you that the last four frozen fours have been very dissapointing, but that doesn't all rest on hak. you've got to look at the guys who actually took to the ice, and the opponents we faced. having been in denver last year, i can tell you it was even more depressing being there in person, but you still cheer on the sioux, and be grateful we get to watch a team of this caliber year in and year out. i hope to get to see more frozen fours involving the sioux in the (near) future, and of course hope for a better effort and outcome. but i don't think hak should be drawn and quartered for those four performances, even though as the head coach, of course he shoulders the blame.

I agree. Believe me, I'm not out to slam hak. I feel very fortunate to have someone of hak's caliber coaching the Sioux. However, I believe that it is also the coaching staffs role to ensure that the team is totally vested before game time. It just seems to me that there is something missing - be it simple motivation, or having a fire in the belly. We know that they have the talent. It just totally kills me to see the Sioux get out played by an Eastern team. Obviously, I need to get a life to get so bent over this. Drop the damn puck already! ???

  13. Chorney does get it from his dad, but just as much from his mom. His mom is Lynn Powers (Chorney) from Grand Forks.

Lynn Powers - any relation to Pam Powers who graduated from Red River in 1975?

  14. I'll have to apologize to Red Wing. I have to admit, I am overly sensitive to anything that seems to be a slam to North Dakotans. I work in Minnesota and live in ND, and anytime I hear anything negative towards my home state, I see red. I am proud to be a North Dakotan, and an Alumni of UND, and I will continue to cheer on the Fighting Sioux until I take my last breath
