  1. I think we all need to step back and see what happens before we hang someone out to dry. I don't think anyone know exactly what is happening or the reasons things being done. I trust Faison though.

I think some on this board know what is happening. Hires like this are not made under a "cone of silence." Question is, are the sources reliable enough to put it out there.

  2. That's because the USC AD knew Sark was his top choice before he fired Kiffin. I question if Faison ever had a top choice...and if it was Tibs...really? Odds of that hire were minimal at best from the start.

If that is the case then Faison is negligent in doing his job. Every AD has a "short" list for every position they oversee. Usually they have cultivated some form of contact prior to making a coaching change. Its not like Faison decided to fire Mussman on the day he did it. Should have been working back channels. Hopefully, he did!

  3. I would also say it probably won't be announced until after the vote on the Fighting Sioux nickname. I am sure that they don't want anything that will deter from their focus on getting out the word on the need for a "Yes" vote on the nickname.

Is Berry pro-Sioux or anti-Sioux? Just wondering why it would matter.

  4. To those who think Hakstol is throwing Eades under the bus, I can only say that he is making a move that he thinks will better the team, right or wrong. I am certain he knows this means there will be more scrutiny of him going forward. I don't think Eades or Hakstol have to apologize for the success or perceived lack of success at UND The funny thing is that many of the perfectionist fans that scrutinize every little decision when the Sioux don't win it all, are the same ones that are scrutinizing a decision that was made in an attempt to better the team to make that next step to a National Championship. You can argue whether this was the right move to achieve that goal, but you got to admit that it was a bold move that will be scrutinized by everybody, including the administration if it doesn't work out.

The six year contract basically voids any scrutiny by the administration through the next four years. Assuming that just the base would be payable upon release, that kind of money is not easy to swallow. I'd say Hakstol has free reign for the near future. Hopefully that's a good thing.

  5. I was wondering since when does Burggraf get to decide what Faison's job discription is? I love the part where he says it will cost UND donations. I think I just pointed out a couple of weeks ago how much DONATIONS HAVE GONE UP! This leader could easily be determined to be an extortion letter by threatening to cause economic harm if the writer does not get his way. Does he think he is an associate of Chicago Outfit like the great benefactor? Faison is a man with large cajones since he knew what he was getting into and still did it. How many of you would have had the cajones to do what he has done, namely his job.

Frank doesn't decide what Faison's job description is, it is laid out in black and white. What he does get to voice is his opinion, which by the way a majority of alumni and fans agree with.

Donations being high has no direct correlation to the nickname fiasco, it has to do with allegiance and respect for the University. When the PC crowd raises $100,000,000, come back and we'll have the discussion. Don't expect fundraising to remain on an upward trajectory if the administration continues to cross alumni and fans.

If anyone has the "mob" mentality, it is the outsiders that have penetrated the administration building, and bowed to the wishes of the minority, regardless of history, respect, or tradition. Standing up to the academic elite is what takes guts. Thanks to Hak, Frank, and the many others that have taken a stand. I'm guessing if others are called from the sidelines ~ they will respond!

  6. Perry passed away today (7/14/10) a lttle after noon. He was surrounded by Mick, Brenna and Tyler. He will be missed.

What a valiant effort against a horrible disease, by Perry and his whole family. Thoughts, prayers, and peace to all.

  7. Googel: Bunning, Thomas (former UND atheltic Director).

Definately played a role in his departure, along with his wife's illness and passing (earlier than anticipated), the fact that his deferred compensation had fully vested, REA management issues, the chance to coach at the next level (250,000-300,000), promises made (but not kept) in Columbus, and maybe just looking for a different routine after 10 years in one place. It would be shocking to see the Gophs let tDon go after this year, but even more shocking for Dean to be his replacement. I would think he will re-appear in Division I hockey, but don't think it will be at a UND rival, or even in the WCHA. :D

  8. I don't know what to make of the story on the Herald website linked below. As a former small-time journalist I am always interested in the editorial judgments made by the media but this story ...I just don't know...

    http://www.grandforksherald.com/articles/i...mp;section=News

What side of the editorial judgment are you questioning? Withholding the information when they first had it, or publishing it now. Seems once WDAZ/Y went with it, they were backed into a corner. My guess is the fur is going to fly between the Clifford/Kenville-Clifford families until there is some type of closure.

  9. Good luck to Edna and the Dragon faithful. She has her hands completely filled up, with the existing slate of sports at MSUM. Football would have to drive any growth in F-M area, and they are years away. NDSU is the only bet for DI hockey in the Fargo-Moorhead area. :silly:

  10. Well that happens, I am sure he is still in love with the girl.

It may happen, :) but it shouldn't. That type of casual acceptance causes society significant problems.

  11. Agreed. Hopefully Hastings sticks around for a few years, which is my only concern, especially when you consider the rumors that Hill wants to move to a front office position in some capacity.

No "M-man" at the UofM, no more. How does that sit with Gopher fans?

  12. I agree that there's a touch of that; to what degree I'm not sure, and in the end, the results on the ice are what matters. I know people on this board don't think so, but the Gophers have had a pretty good run over the last few years. Yes, some bad games / stretches have come along the way, but that happens. The fact is they've had as much success as anyone in college hockey during Lucia's tenure, no matter how you want to define "success." They've captured every type of banner available (DQ Cup too!), had a Hobey Baker winner, first team All-Americans, guys going to the NHL and being factors, etc.

You guys might not like Lucia (though I'm not sure Sioux fans would like anybody who coached the Gophers), but to ignore the success to to try to paint him in a bad light at this point is foolish. The same can be said for Gopher fans who unleash unprovoked attacks on Hakstol. Most of the Hak-bashing done by Gopher fans comes on the heels of Lucia ripping by UND fans, IMO.

I always love a good chicken/egg argument. I think most TDon bashing comes on the heels of Hakstol ripping by Gopher fans, IMO.

  13. Tony Lucia has certainly proved his worth over time; add to that the fact that he had offers from the likes of New Hampshire, Michigan, and Notre Dame, and he's not on the roster just because his old man is the coach.

In addition, Wehrs was just fine last year as a freshman who will be a four-year guy, and he also had offers from good D-I schools, including UMD and (I believe) BU. North Dakota also recruited Joey Miller, so he's got to have some talent, no?

Applying that same logic, I'm sure Guentzel's son could have played for Minnesota and done well; why he didn't end up here I don't know. But, don't use the "Wayzata East" logic because all those Wayzata kids have either proved their worth and/or were recruited by other top programs -- including UND.

Not questioning talent levels, just the fact that the issue is a concern for "some" underclassmen. It is difficult enough when the head coaches' son is in the locker room, but when you add a number of his friends it can lead to dissension. Not that difficult to imagine if you think about it. Perception and reality aren't always the same thing. :D

  14. The biggest concern with the underclassmen is that the UofM is becoming Wayzata East. The program is more about Tony and friends (Wehrs, Miller, etc.), than anything else.

Underlying issue between Guentzel and Lucia, was that young Guentzel and young Lucia were fairly even in talent. One had the opportunity to become a Gopher and the other became an Irish.

  15. It will be a mistake if they go away from regional on host team's ice. Big Mistake. I am hoping UND gets one of those.

Just a guess, but I would bet they will wait for the resolution of the nickname before returning to the "Ralph." :D

  16. That being said, I have to say that I'm a bit surprised at the money he got when you consider how his second year at UND wound down. Of course, if he doesn't play in the NHL the Senators aren't really out that much, and if he ends up being good enough to play in the NHL this year, then I guess he's worth the money.

His money was dictated by the new collective bargaining agreement, and his rank in the draft. Had nothing to do with how his second year at UND wound down.

Standard three year contract for $850,000 per year, $85,000 signing bonus. If he plays in the minors, the money goes down to $100,000. Not a big risk for him or the team.
