No, Johnson didn't do well at OSU. He is still an absolute dumpster fire defensively.
Wrong. Pretty good season for him playing him playing 20+ mins a night. 5 g 8 a -1 64 blocks.

Perhaps they read this forum and want to see if the train wreck is real before deciding...
He’s a very similar player to B Johnson. Probably doesn’t want to end up like he did at UND.

Does anyone think there’s a possibility Brent Johnson opts to stick around? I lean towards “no” but he’s a right handed defenseman that would get more playing time than he did last year. Still probably not going to happen but just food for thought that I wanted to throw out there and see what you all thought.
Hearing he had offers from MI, Q Pac, Merrimack and Ohio State. Chose Ohio State.

Losing drafted players to the pros is one thing, losing them to the portal is another. My guess is the coaches at BU, minnie, QU and MI are not experiencing the same thing. They will lose players early to the pros, and reload. We are losing players early but are rebuilding. I hope the D that come in next season mature quick.
All we need now is for the list of the decommits to start rolling in. Maybe they should look at replacing KG.

I honestly think there was something more to it. I hate to speculate but underclassmen are going to make mistakes. This should be known and very obvious. Farmer, Moore, etc all made their fair share of mistakes. Heck, kleven and Frisch made their fair share early in this year too. Johnson’s numbers were decent and he showed a few glimpses early in the year on that second pp.
Overall, tough situation and Berry has always developed dmen fairly well. Bubs is the coach, have to trust him even though it was a bigger head scratcher.
Maybe this has to do with players not wanting to play for KG.

I actually had high hopes with constantini. Was noted as a draft sleeper prior to getting drafted. I thought he was going to put up bigger ushl numbers but after his frosh season basically forgot about that. Really confused what happened there.
Johnson made some bonehead plays too but Moore, farmer, Frisch, etc also made some bonehead plays. Anyone remember 15 and 25 the first couple months of the season? They were on the ice for almost every goal there for a while. Moore’s no looker to the front of the net during the DU game? 6 pts in 13 games…+3 and a 3rd rounder? That deserves some leash unless there’s something else going on. I know nothing about the kids character…just have to trust the staff.
That’s what’s nice about the portal. He can go somewhere else reset and hopefully have a great 2 yrs. Let’s just hope its not at another NCHC school and against us.

I believe Frisch, Gaber and Caulfield come back and that’s a pretty core group to draw on IMHO.
I still think 15 signs. He can’t afford to have a bad year next year and miss out on an offer.

He's mentioned it in multiple articles too. Said he has high-end offensive skill but still needs to work on his defensive coverage.
you give up on Johnson who you’ve had for two years only to bring in a freshman who is basically the same player.

Where did he say that that?
On his podcast.

For the incoming freshman absolutely. Think about the leash they’ll have. It benefits Strathmann the most as he plays wagon wheel hockey. Kid like that comes in any earlier and he’d get “Johnson treatment”
Schlossman has already said that the kids going to struggle to play defense.

So far no "unexpected" portal entrants from UND, which would be a huge plus if it ends up that way.
If we're able to retain 18, 4, 24, etc...that'd be welcome for next season. And I wonder how long until we hear future plans for Frisch, Gaber, etc.
I wouldn’t hold my breath. Could be more.

I’m worried about Moore and Costantini hitting the portal. I’d love if those two and Johnson all stayed but I’d bet we see some expected and some surprise portal entrants from the team. Hopefully we can add more than we lose.
The big question for the coaching staff is. Will there be more that sign pro or more that enter the portal?

Has 21 had a shift in the last 2 periods?
Grocery stick tonight. The guy that sits between the forwards/def.

Don’t disagree that he fell out of favor, obviously.
Why keep him around if it was an off ice issue? The same reason they kept TJ Oshie, Jonathan Toews, Robbie Bina, Matt Greene, and countless other players with off ice issues around and recruited players like Brandon Bochenski—they’re good at hockey.
Not every discipline issue requires a Matt Frattin, Mitchell Miller, or Luke Voltin type response.
But we only recruit “character” players anyway.
Sometimes it’s like groundhog day on here. We’re talking about a player that hasn’t played since Dec and won’t be here next yr. Let it go. We’re 8 wins away from a National Championship lets talk about that.

He went from a solid fixture in the lineup to never playing again. That tells me the most obvious answer is an off ice issue.
I’m pretty sure that the team would have released him if that was the case. Also, why would they let him travel this weekend to Omaha. I would bet that if 2 def got hurt this weekend we would see him play. It boils down to the coaches couldn’t gain trust in him during the losing stretch. They panicked and decided they wanted to only play the veterans. Schloss has pretty much covered this.

I've been told several times by multiple people that it's not an off ice issue. He just has not shown the ability to play defense and is at the bottom of the depth chart. Apparently he's still working hard and is being a solid teammate.
Believe what you want, but sometimes the most obvious answer is the right one.
Well said. He’s being a great teammate and trying to not be a distraction from UND winning a National Championship.

I would like to know this as well. I mean, anybody who is around the press box, is he there on game days in a suit? @Goon is he alive still?
He is still with the team and alive. He was on the bench in a suit during the senior celebration Sat night. Schlossman has stated that he would be shocked if 6 doesn’t enter the portal. Maybe he knows something.

I don't think 18, 21 or 29 would have problems finding a new home. Hope all three return, really talented young players. I wouldn't blame any of the three though if they left.
I would add #24 and #32 to the possible portal list. This program is not going to look good if 3-4 guys hit the portal. Especially NHL draft picks.

Top line should be electric to watch......
