  1. That’s very concerning. It’s going to become even more of an issue when we get into conference play. When teams start really scouting UND, they will just refuse to even guard Trent or Brooks outside the lane. It’s not going to end well if they don’t start shooting the 3 ball.
  2. We still lack scoring from the guard position. Someone that can get the ball and get a bucket. Omot is that player but the coaches need to let him do that. He's going to take some ill-advised shots at times but you have to live with that and let him just go score the ball
  3. I knew this would be the type of final score we'd see going into the game but I was hoping we would at least be a little more competitive. At least for the first half or something. We were competitive for the first 3 minutes was about it.
  4. This will be a big test for the guards and wing defenders. I’m afraid we are out-sized on the inside now matter what we try do. Kalkbrenner has significant height advantage and then Kaluma is a strong athletic NBA prospect… going to be tough inside
  5. 29 is a lot of points. I could see UND covering that. I won’t be putting money on it though lol
  6. I will be at this game as I am also a Creighton fan! Super excited to watch it in person! I think Creighton had a wake up call against St. Thomas that they can’t just walk into these non-conference games and think they will win. They will come out on all cylinders to start the game. This will be a very tough matchup for UND but I’m excited to see how the freshman react on the big stage!
  7. I loved all the lines trying to justify the take that they could make the playoffs at 5-6 lol
  8. ST just packed it in the middle and dared Creighton to shoot the 3. That was their weakness last year. They were missing and ST was able to keep it a close game. I am nervous for the game as I think that was a wakeup call to Creighton that they can't just waltz their way through these non-conference games. They will be ready to play against us on Thursday.
  9. I haven't seen anything. Is he good enough to play? When he got in at the end of exhibition I didn't see him do anything that would provide anything different than the people that already play. I could be totally wrong though. He is very much an unknown.
  10. TT is lost on defense for sure. Doesn't help that they went to switching screens in the second half so he was getting switched out onto guards. Not something you'd love to see him having to do. He got burned on that backcut late but Omot saved him with the block. Mathews is better than TT but he just doesn't look comfortable out on the court. I think his back is still bothering him. It looks painful for him to run. I think he would struggle to play any extended minutes.
  11. He has been like this since coming to UND. I get it he had some injuries in the past but he plays with no energy, no grit. There's just not much there. Emotionless. You can't have that from your PG and a veteran player. It would be best for the team if his minutes start to dwindle as the season moves forward. Give the minutes to Trent or other young guys that bring that energy, effort, and passion.
  12. Spot on! Let Norman come in off the bench and if he hits a shot or two and brings you energy he can play a few more minutes. But if he misses or turns the ball over then you have to get him out of there. Our new players are bringing great energy and effort so far. It's great to see!
  13. Sloppy win last night but starting the season off 1-0 and with a road win is always a good thing. Defense was really fun to watch. We have a TON of good wing defenders and lots of length. Offense was shaky to say the least. They were pressuring a ton and got us out of a rhythm the whole game. Omot is going to continue to develop into that player that when we need a bucket just give him the ball and get out of the way. You could already see that last night when it would get late shot clock and at the end of the game. Starting lineup should be Trent, Brooks, Omot, Sueker, TT. Then have Treysen get good minutes off the bench. He can sub in for Sueker. Mathews as the 5 man sub. And then sprinkle in Nero and I guess Norman as needed. If Norman doesn't hit his first shot or two just get him out of there. Doesn't do much else to help the team. It's tough but our young guys give us the best shot at winning as we move forward. They are long, athletic, can play and guard multiple positions, and bring a different energy to the team. I'm excited to continue to watch them improve.
  14. As a senior, so last year, Brooks shot 2.39 threes per game and made 33% of them. I understand this is college so it is harder to shoot than high school, but even if he can shoot 2 to 3 a game and make 33% of them it at least keeps the defense honest and opens up so many things for him and the team. Your starting shooting guard needs to be willing to shoot the 3 ball. To say he should only be a slasher is absurd. He is a capable low volume jump shooter.
  15. Exactly. I guess SD UND doesn't agree judging by the downvote. Watch him shoot in warmups. His form isn't bad. It's not like he literally cannot shoot a basketball. He can shoot a couple a game. I'm not sure why you would want your starting shooting guard to not even look at the rim and only be a slasher. That doesn't make much sense.
  16. We absolutely want and need him to be a willing shooter. I'm not saying he needs to shoot 5+ threes a game but he needs to shoot 2 to 3 a game to at least keep the defense honest. Or at least look at the rim from behind the 3 point line. That will open up the lanes to drive and make him that much more effective in slashing to the hoop. I mean, he is our starting shooting guard. Why would you want your starting shooting guard to not even look at the rim from 3? I understand his game is to be a slasher but he also needs to be willing to shoot the ball. It opens up many things for his game and for the the whole team. It will come as he gets more comfortable and used to the college game.
  17. I think the shooting from 3 may take a while to really pick up. Brooks needs to be willing to shoot it more from 3. Omot can shoot it but isn't a great 3 point shooter. Trent is the same way. Most of our guards can shoot it but none are true knockdown shooters. I think as the season moves on they will get more comfortable shooting the 3 and it will improve.
  18. I expect Trent to have a big impact on the defensive side of the ball for UND this year. He is LONG and looks the part of an elite wing defender. He showed it a little bit in the second half of the exhibition. Excited to see it for a full game. The post play on the defensive side of the ball worries me. TT is a lot smaller than he is listed at. He is listed at 6'9" but I have been by him a few times, being at 6'5" myself, and he wasn't much taller than me. I hope Mathews continues to work back from the back injury and gets more comfortable. He didn't seem to be moving very fluid or comfortably in the exhibition.
  19. Nice punt! Now we can let the backup QB drive 99 yards for a touchdown on us!!!
  20. Excited to watch them on the road. Should be able to get the first road win of the season against a team that was 7-25 last season. They have some bigger guys: 6'11", 6'10", and a couple 6'7" guys that could cause some problems. Hopefully the young guys are settled in after the exhibition game and aren't nervous on the road.
  21. So if you were the coach what would you do? Your only go-to is to fire the coaches and recruit a completely new roster.... but you never actually say what would work or make the team better besides that. So please enlighten me on what you would do to help our defense...
  22. I think it starts with the CB's not sagging off of the WR's 6-7 yards every single play. It hasn't worked all season and gives the opponents a free 5+ yards every single time. Why don't we try something different and maybe play some man and press up at the line some more?? It can't get much worse so may as well try something else.
  23. This year's team is steps ahead of last year. They actually look like a D1 team this year. They have significantly more talented players this year than last year. They should at least be competitive this year and hopefully win a few more games. As for the game last night, Sueker was the best player for UND and should be for the year as long as he can stay healthy. TT looked solid although it was against smaller players than he will see all year. Nero was solid, nothing crazy. Trent looked good in the second half. Bummer that we weren't able to see him for a whole game. The freshman are very talented. Brooks needs to be more willing to shoot the 3 as the season goes on. Omot showed flashes and got more comfortable as the game went on. Treysen was visibly nervous the whole game. Looked kind of timid. Hopefully he got the first game jitters out of the way. He can be a huge asset to have as a 6'6" point guard. We aren't used to seeing that at UND. I'm not sure why Norman played as much as he did. Many others bring more to the game than he would for this squad in my opinion. Same goes for Grant. Overall I am really excited for this season! I think we could shock some people in the Summit as the season moves on.
