  1. An LOI does a few things:

    - defines any money (which as speculated probably isn't much)

    - forces other schools to stop calling

    - allows the coaches to say the recruit's name (which means Gene can now talk to his daughter again, right? :silly: )

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It's an NLI (National Letter of Intent) not LOI and it has nothing to do with money. That is the financial aid agreement. Many places do offer discounts to the kids of U employees... I can't believe that a place like UND wouldn't offer at least a discount.

  2. Congrats to Kristi Boese for being named first team all-region.  link Unfortunately, a glaring omission was made by not selecting Ashley Langen for at least the second team. I didn't get a chance to see all that many NSIC or RMAC players, but there's no way UNO's J.J. Smith merited being selected ahead of Langen.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I agree Langen had a tremendous season - I think it is unusual for Freshman to make the daktronics all region squad. Maybe she wasn't nominated. Congrats to Kristi - she is fun to watch!

  3. Moorhead isnt a bad team...UND beat them by 35 before Christmas??? and it was 30 early in the second half...most of the subs played most of the second half...come on....not a bad team...wow.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You can't base whether or not MSU is a good or bad team on that one game. Remember when the Sioux lost to Northern State and Southwest State? Besides it only matters what anyone does in the post season now.

  4. North Central

    1 Regis (Colorado) 18-1 19-4

    2 Metropolitan State 16-4 19-4

    3 North Dakota 13-4 19-5

    4 Concordia-St Paul 12-4 17-6

    5 Minnesota Duluth 11-5 17-6

    6 Augustana (South Dakota) 11-5 20-6

    7 Minnesota State Moorhead 12-5 18-5

    8 St Cloud State 12-6 18-7

    9 Southwest Minnesota State 10-7 16-8

    10 Fort Hays State 11-4 18-5

  5. Probably. I do think UND has the highest overall SSI in the region, however. What saves Regis is that there is a separate category for in-region SSI. Their overall SSI is very low due to having lost to an NAIA team (counts for 0 points) and to a sub-.500 dI team (counts for 2 points). Those games, along with their loss to Angelo St., don't count in the in-region SSI. So while most schools have a fairly comparable overall SSI and in-region SSI, Regis has a huge disparity between its two different SSI's. Most likely, so long as they have the best overall record, in-region record, and in-region SSI, they'll likely remain ranked first in the region.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I can't believe that losing to an NAIA is 0 points but not negative points! I guess that the next best thing is to be 7-8 in the region if Regis Metro is 1-2

  6. I think there's a decent chance UND will leapfrog Metro. UND will have a healthy advantage in overall strength of schedule and in-region SSI, according to my calculations, as well as having a better record vs. common opponents. Both teams will have the same number of in-region losses, but Metro has played more region games and will therefore have a better in-region record, as well as having an overall record advantage with one fewer loss. UND actually has a big advantage over both Metro and Regis in terms of overal SSI.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I would bet a lot of teams have an advantage over Regis and Metro when it comes to overall strength of schedule...

  7. I realize he's on the committee this year. I haven't had the chance to listen to the 1440 A.M. radio show the past several weeks, but I'd be very interested if the topic of regional rankings has come up. I can only assume Roebuck would want to choose his words pretty carefully all things considered, but I'm willing to bet he wasn't happy about UND's 6th place position last week.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm sure he wasn't happy about it but at the same time he knows how it works now... I would also guess that he has to be pretty candid in public about what goes on during the meetings because I think it is supposed to be confidential. We'll see what happens... Looks like Metro or Regis will be 1-2, and what are the chances that they will actually fall out of the 1-2 spots by the end of the regular season? Just something to think about - it will be a really entertaining next few weeks

  8. It will be very interesting to see if UND rises to second in the regional rankings this week. Obviously these were two very impressive wins over ranked teams and could easily justify such a jump, particularly considering UND's SOS was already quite high even prior to factoring in these two games counting for 15 power points each. If the committee is unwilling to rank three NCC teams ahead of the top-ranked NSIC team, I would hope that they would find it just as difficult to have two RMAC teams (Regis and Metro) ahead of the top-ranked NCC team.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

FYI for all of you who are so worried about the committee not being fair... Gene is on the regional committee...

  9. Yikes, UND falls a spot in the new regional poll despite a nice road win:

    North Central

    1 Regis (Colorado) 17-0 18-3

    2 Minnesota Duluth 11-4 17-5

    3 Metropolitan State 14-4 17-4

    4 Minnesota State Moorhead 11-4 17-4

    5 Augustana (South Dakota) 11-4 20-5

    6 North Dakota 11-4 17-5

    7 Concordia-St. Paul 10-4 15-6

    8 Fort Hays State 10-3 17-4

    9 St. Cloud State 10-6 16-7

    10 Minnesota-Crookston 9-5 14-7

It seems odd that UND is 4-1 against teams ranked in the region (plus wins over regional number one Seattle Pacific and regional number two Grand Valley St.), and yet despite an overall record at least comparable to everybody in front of them, they're only ranked 6th.   For example, take Moorhead. The one and only thing they have over UND is one fewer loss (also one less game played). But they also played four non-dII teams compared to one for UND; they lost by 35 to UND; and they're 2-3 against regionally ranked teams compared to UND's 4-1 (6-1 counting other regions). What's going on here? I'm not interested enough to calculate SSI's, but considering UND's quality wins and Moorhead's four games against non-dII's, it certainly doesn't appear that SSI would support them being ranked ahead of UND.

While much can change between now and the end of the regular season, it does appear that the NCC is in danger of getting as many post-season bids (three) as the woeful RMAC.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It doesn't matter who they beat outside the region as far as GVST and Seattle Pacific... they also look head to head, and it does go week to week. So if UND split and MSU went 2-0 that always helps. The next three weeks will determine everything so it doesn't even matter who is ranked where right now because of who still has to play who... take care of business

  10. I'm sure SSI has a lot to do with it. But just as in football, I believe there's some room for interpretation, as well. The football poll didn't necessarily follow the SSI rankings to the letter. If winning the north central region every year it has existed hasn't earned a certain amount of respect for the NCC, I guess nothing will. By the same token, if not having had ANY success in the post-season (the RMAC) hasn't earned a healthy amount of skepticism about the quality of that league, I guess nothing will.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    It's early...

  11. I would add the congrats to your mens team for knocking us off. But I also have to give credit to our womens team for knocking off the lady sioux. Broke a long losing streak of losses. Sound like Roebuck didn't take the loss well. He stormed off the court and didn't want to talk to the press. See you next weekend.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

He did talk to his own UND press, I was listening to the end of the game. Hats off to the UNO women
