  1. Crookston has had a co-op on the girls side with MayPort since 2015 I believe. MayPort doesn't have enough girls to field a 19U team so it's been a good option for them. They grow up playing on the boys teams and switch over to them and do well.

MayPort tried to setup a co-op with GF. They weren't interested.

The co-op's for the bigger schools on the girls side is, for the most part, a joke. In WF for example, there are so many girls that quit because they can see the writing on the wall. They don't have to have cuts because the coach makes it pretty clear where they stand. They most definitely could be fielding two teams.  What makes this worse in my opinion is that they don't have a JV program for the girls in ND. That's a whole other topic.

Roseau upset Moorhead in girls hockey to get to state out of 8AA as well.  Pretty sure Roseau is the only team between the 4 teams (including Warroad, Moorhead and Crookston) from the title games that doesn't have ND girls.

At least with Crookston its a co-op with a ND school, unlike the others that are recruiting.

Independent schedule as in? Fully Independent?

That ends ND high school hockey, immediately.

Small schools go to a club world or just fold. Large towns just turn into Tier 1/AAA/Club U18 programs.

That's a world that's interesting to think about.

Northstar, Sioux Falls Power, Jr Force, THA, An Academy in Bismarck maybe Minot JR Tauros? or tied into a Canadian league somehow?

Better for development but expensive and un-inclusive.

Who knows kinda of a neat convo for the next 30 rack lobby show I guess.

But I'm guessing you mean more of either a hybrid 6 point game allowance even against teams with full EDC/WDA membership or more practically a 2 tiered system for ND high school hockey.

I have not, do not, and will not believe the current structure is in anyone's best interest.

    Certainly not the kid's.

Yes, a hybrid is what I meant. Correct me if I'm wrong. In MN you are required to play those in your conference at least once a year, which is around 6-7 teams. After that, they can schedule whoever they want. At the end of the season the coaches in each section get together and decide their seeding based on schedule and results. Is it possible that the EDC could adopt something similar and the WDA continues doing what they've always done? I definitely don't want to see the HS league go away. We are very fortunate to have it.

Being able to have a Warroad on your non conference schedule is huge.  Central getting to play two quality Section 8A teams back to back is a great test before tournament time.

This is a big part of the argument of getting away with the required home and away in the EDC. Go to an independent schedule and let teams schedule the best games for their teams. MN has been doing it for years, I would think we could figure it out too.

Williston starts the second with a goal for 2-1.

    MPCG answers back with three.

5-1 Mayville Portland Clifford Galesburg (and I'm sure they have kids from Buxton, Reynolds, and Hillsboro too).

4 From Thompson, 4 From Northwood. The rest are MayPort kids.  I always find  it funny that this gets laughed at. You don't think Devils Lake, Jamestown, Grafton etc...are pulling kids from other school district's? At the end of the day, kids that want to play HS hockey are getting a chance.

  6. My understanding is the Athletic Directors need to come together and push for the two tier system if it's going to happen. The coaches are largely in favor of it already, except the large class A schools that would be on the bubble. The low end and high end virtually all agree it needs to happen. My conversations with Matt Fetch usually end with it's too hard to change the bylaws and there isn't enough teams, witch is complete bull$%!#. They are perfectly fine with changing the football levels every other year. They are also ok with having a six man league with 3 or 4 teams in the state. It needs to come from the AD's...... call them and voice your opinions.

I'd be thrilled to see Bottineau back at the state tournament.  Another group to watch make a possible trip to the state tournament is Williston.  I think with Bismarck High being a bit down and Mandan losing a ton of seniors it's a possibility.

MayPort went 3-0 against Bottineau and Williston this year. They would fit in very well in the west.

  8. Even if we don't switch to a two tier system, would you agree the scheduling format should be addressed? I think it makes more sense for ND to have an independent schedule than it does MN. The problem gets to be the 21 game allotment only leaves 3 games for non EDC teams.  Throw in a holiday tournament and the schedule is done. Teams are forced to play lopsided games. Why not have an independant schedule and let teams find the best competition for their team. This is also a struggle that MayPort is having. They can't get games against ND teams. Schedules are full right off the bat. Maybe Wahpeton would consider coming back in this scenario also. Maybe Langon would consider, who knows.
