  1. For me, the extension signals that mediocrity in football is good enough. I hate to say it, but this wasn't deserved in my opinion.

Part of the motive here was to help recruiting because anything less than a 3 year contract these days is leveraged against a program.

  2. A candidate would have to run a fairly unique version of the 34 which is bubba's precious and take a moderate salary for their trouble. Oh and there is a good chance that they could be let go after next season.

The reality is that quality coaches were not going to be interested. Hire in house and get it over with I suppose.

4 teams left in FCS.  Bubba program played 3 of those teams during its 7-4 regular season.

Lost  to NDSU playing a 2nd string QB.

Lost to Weber St in the last moments of the game.

    Beat Montana St.

In reflection UND played the toughest (top 5)schedule in FCS America?

Looks as though UND is much closer to what we all want than many(including myself at times) on this board have thought.

    Look forward to replies.

The divide between top teams and the bottom teams in the FCS is very wide, yet the program finds a way to be both good and bad at the same time. Play well with Weber but also get wacked by isu. Have good players at one position but are basically empty at others. It's hard to say where we're at.

My only point is these guys are committed to the program.  I don’t believe their commitment is an issue.

I appreciate commitment. Wish the best for them.

  5. A school can guarantee their ticket to the playoffs with an easy schedule but they ain't gonna beat anyone when they get there. Scheduling has to be balanced, it's not that hard to figure out really. Although putting a schedule together years in advance can be one big guess.

  6. Contemporary 34 is used mostly to get one on one matchups for star edge rushers. Pure 34 alignments are pretty rare with spread offenses though, it's become various hybrid fronts now. Bubba's style is definitely a rarity these days, 34 zone blitzing with the secondary playing deep quarters. It's a lot of the same stuff from back in the good old days. I honestly can't tell if the scheme is good or not so good. Sometimes it makes teams look terrible, sometimes we get gashed.

  7. There is the possibility that bubba retires and takes a fundraising job or goes out to pasture at umary. Chaves would let him wait until the end of the season to save face and have a shred of dignity. If that happens, who knows where the hiring process goes. Both coordinators would probably like to apply but the way the season is going that would be a bit awkward.
