Don't think the kid wanted to go to SU in the first place.  He tweeted nothing about it on signing day.  My assumption is he was pressured a bit too early, before he was ready, because of signing day hoopla, etc.

Since UND gave him money he can sign with us.  PWOs are free to re-sign anywhere for scholarship money.  Seems like a Joe Schobert scenario.

Well worth the money.  Kid is gonna be a solid player for the Hawks!

I don’t necessarily think it was that he did or didn’t want to sign at NDSU. I think it was deciding whether he wants to play football or basketball at the next level.

That's only if the offers are reported by the kid - which he really didn't report much after he committed to UND.  I know he had some MAC offers, and a decent amount of MVFC offers, but don't know for sure about the two listed above.

Moral of the story he was more than likely not offered by either.

  3. Listed as co-starting Left Tackle: Dillon Radunz- ACL

Pre-season All American D-End: Greg Menard- ACL

Starting MLB (had moved ahead of Matt Plank in depth chart after EWU game) Dan Marlette- Believed to be ACL

4th String RB: Demaris Purifoy- ACL

Listed as 2nd String free safety, key special teams player: Jaxon Brown- Knee injury (will return, out 6-8 weeks, hurt season opener)

Starting Weakside LB: Nick DeLuca- Meniscus (played this week)

Starting TE: Jeff Illies- Sprained MCL (missed first two weeks)

Starting FB: Brock Robbins- foot injury (missed 2 out of 4 games)

Back-up QB: Cole Davis- separated shoulder (expected to miss 4 weeks)

Starting MLB (hard to say his role when/if he comes back with Marlette out and DeLuca back): Matt Plank- ankle (missed last two weeks)

3rd String RB, kickoff returne: Ty Brooks- missed the last two weeks, injury undisclosed

So that’s 11 that are or have been injured. I could be missing more too.

    NDSU's camp is a 3 day one.

Most of NDSUs elite recruits like Trey Lance, Phoenix Sproles, and some others that aren't committed only camp there 1 day. The 3 day camp is for invites that mainly don't have offers. Also there are many surrounded colleges there that are able to see these kids that are bright it. So the 1 day argument with SDSU is kind of silly because quite a few kids that camp at NDSU are 1 day campers.

Also one of my kids is coming to UNDs camp this Thursday at 4:00. Hunter Sand is being recruited as an athlete by UND. Really good kid. All around athlete, has invite to both NDSU and UNDs prospect camp for basketball also. Plays AAU and is an all state baseball player.

  5. Hunter Sand was there. Plays QB and Safety for Lakota-Dakota Prairie. They are recruiting him to play Safety.

Really good all around athlete. 1,200+ career points through his junior season. Plays ECI basketball, also is an all region shortstop in high school and legion.

Only to your last paragraph, NDSU is not as dominant as they used to be. Bisonville understands this, just seems some here don't.

Might not of been dominant, but that still doesn't clarify your first statement of talent pool slipping? Other teams improve, recruit better, better schemes, better coaching. Could careless with what bisonville understands. Just because they weren't as dominant this year doesn't mean the talent pool is any worse. There were multiple starters on the 2016 team that won a title in 2015. Those players got worse your saying? All I am saying as I think other teams are catching up. But you might be right.

That said, I think teams like SDSU, USD, and UND all have the right staffs to compete. I really like what Nielsen has done at USD and Bubba at UND. I am curious to see how much longer Stig will coach. Guys been at it awhile.

Ok, to be fair, Posting from a neutral stand point. Going to try do this in a few statements. Both institutions are ND's best.

Both SD's and Montana beat NDSU in last 18 months in close games. JM physically beat NDSU. NDSU has won some close games. That's slipping from years just prior.

UND had a undeafeted conference record. Lost 3 close games one a playoff game, UND won some close games. That's improving from just years prior.

Going into playoffs, both schools were seeded, #1 & #7 repectfully, both a little overrated. I would say today NDSU is still a better team but the teams are moving in the direction of equality.

When all of above is understood, you'll see why. Here's what usually happens (seen it many times with the ND U's), the movement of the favorite team's talent in a down slide slips below the talent of the other team.

Totally understandable. I do not disagree with you.

The fact that NDSU was able to turn around and beat SDSU and Montana after losing to them shows me that coaching is big factor. Talent might not always be the determining factor. Game planning and execution are huge factors. I would argue that SDSU was the more talented team out of any of the dakota schools this year.

UND is definitely trending the right way. Will be attending a couple games this next season with some friends. Many of them used to just get GA tickets are now purchasing season tickets. Chatted with Bubba at a hockey game two weeks ago. Complimented him on how he is running UND's program and have enjoyed the times I have been able to watch.

I just don't see how you can say NDSU's talent pool is falling off after one year that they didn't win the title? None of the other dakota schools advanced further than them, until that happens, I would say the talent pool is stable. JMU was the best team in the nation this year.

Tweaking ain't enough when the talent pool is slipping! And now coaches leaving added to the equation. Going to be a different landscape when we C U in the Hawk's Nest in 2020.

Posting from a neutral stand point, can you explain to me how the talent pool is slipping? Like I've stated before I have ties to both school, have attended games at both schools in multiple sports. I just find it interesting that you say that? Curious your reasoning, is it an issue across the FCS? Or regionally?

Actually this is not good for all fans, with CenturyLink I can't get ESPN3 with any of their packages.....and I live in AZ so I won't be able to watch any of their games unless I change providers. With watchbigsky.Com I can watch all the games and I don't have to worry if I am somewhere else....all I need is an Internet connection to watch the game.  The viewing option actually gets more difficult for some. I'm glad it's a few years away.....I've got plenty of time to change providers.

You can purchase watchESPN and have it on any of your devices.

  10. Another small recruiting tidbit, now that UND is joining the MVFC is their contract with ESPN. Every game is on ESPN3, makes it easy for parents to watch their son play. Also very nice for fans.

Well looks like the focus for the few in state guys we like shifts to Hankey and Jepson.

Has anyone heard much on Hankey? I coach legion baseball in the summers, we play Park River 3 to 4 times a summer. Their legion coach told me he was hoping to land an offer from UND or NDSU. I am under the assumption that neither school have offered money? Probably trying to land him through the preferred walk-on route? I know baseball could be an option for him.

Renolds is a tackling machine. Always around the football.

Mauch from Hankinson, Hankey from Park River and Jepson from Killeer are some others that I don't think have committed yet.

Mauch just took a PWO to NDSU. Supposedly over a PWO offer from UND and D-2 offer from MSU-M.

Maybe, but he fumbled 5 times this year, so why wouldn't Reyes have been able to cause one or two?

Never said he wouldn't, just stating he faces safeties from a top 3 conference in college football.

I had the same thought.  Although I think Reyes might have caused him to cough up the ball a few times. They've got some big rangy returning linebackers that will give us fits. From a defensive standpoint, I think they're the kind of offense that plays to our strengths with that read option stuff.

You don't think Williams faced PAC12 safeties that are just as good as Reyes?

  15. The final rankings will be announced tomorrow night at 9:00 on ESPNU instead of Thursday like the past couple weeks.

    My prediction:

    1. EWU

    2. NDSU

    3. Jacksonville St

    4. James Madison

    5. Sam Houston

    6. The Citadel

    7. UND

    8. Central Arkansas

    9. Richmond

    10. SDSU
