So current Summit league members with mens hockey are , UND, DU, STU, and UNO, Lindenwood University is currently an affiliate member as well, if Augustana joins then it would be 5 teams with a possible 6th if ag, that means you would still have SCSU, UMD, MNSU, BSU CC, WMU, Miami. Miami and WMU would go to the CCHA. SCSU would probably be an attracitve add because they might be the least likely to have an potential hang ups about going from affiliate to full member, SCSU no longer has football and its not a huge burden to move its teams from D2 - D1 without football. If they want to Stay at 8 then it comes down to adding MNSU or UMD. My guess is that Duluth wins that vote as it would be left without a conferance because there will not be enough Teams to Hold the NCHC together, which then leads to the question of 8 teams or 10, if 10 then its MNSU along with Bemidji or CC, my Guess is that CC gets the add so Denver gets one road game, but also because BSU will still be in the CCHA if they are not added in, CCHA would be at 8 teams. If Lidenwood dosen't become an affilate then I image that they would add SCSU, UMD, MNSU along with Augastana, and then BSU stays in the CCHA along with WMU and Maimi, and CC is left twisting in the wind.
I would think MNSU would be all in on this, more geographic sense, and it Might finally push Kato to try and move up to full D-1, there other facilities are already on par with most of the summit league, and there football stadium is going to be replaced soon anyways, They would probably get support from St. Thomas and Augustana.
I think that BSU wouldn't get the nod, but it might be a blessing in disguise for them, It might cause BSU to do what MNSU did when they were left out of the NCHC, get serious about creating a competitive program, seek out new coach and move towards a most fast paced aggressive style of hockey.

My oldest is in his final year of Juniors this year. He's talked with his share of D3 and ACHA D1 and D2 programs. Hoping for NCAA D3 but, when you know you're not playing hockey to go pro, going to a larger school that offers ACHA D1 or D2 and takes it seriously is a good option that I never thought about in the past. We're finding out that some of these schools take it seriously and get great school and fan support. D1 or D2, the label doesn't matter because there are schools at each level that give the program great support and schools at each level that just kind of field a team. Forget the labels and find the right program.
He's played with and against some UMary players so have an idea the caliber of that program. It's pretty solid.
Biggest problem for U Mary would be the start up cost, Capitol Arena in Bismark seats less than 500 people, too small for any Midwestern league though it may be acceptable temporary,while Malaysian arena in Minot isn't going to win any major accolades its similar in size to Ferris States arena... and arguably nicer, meaning while I am sure Minot state would be under pressure to upgrade its facilities, it wouldn't need new digs right away to get started. Though if both Minot and U Mary added hockey everyone is going to be looking at NDSU like "Well whats your excuse?"

Who knows there might even be the potential for a Governors Cup in the future, Also I would bet you see some teams in the CCHA express interest in playing them as well, Minot State would be a good potential add for the CCHA's 10th team.

Honestly the Canadian College teams have too many goons, not all the teams mind you, some teams actually come down and play a competitive game, but not many. The ACHA teams look at these games as a chance to show what they are made of, to show they are ready to hang with NCAA hockey, frankly given that choice I would say playing ACHA squads or D-3 squads makes more sense, allows the D-1 Schools to test out lines and players and helps new programs get exposure they need to work toward moving up.

Will be interesting to see how UMD responds tomorrow after that butt-kicking.Should have been 7-0, refs waved of a goal that they thought went of the crossbar, apparently the video replay was down at start of the game and they forgot to tell the refs once they got it going again.

I would say its definitely going to be a harder season for them, but keep in mind they played all three goalies, this game was all about seeing who was ready to handle the net, My guess is the guy in net for the 3rd period, Miller( Fargo Force) gets the nod for the game at Minnesota, that said they are going to have to get used to playing a little tighter in there own end, you don't have your Hobey Baker Goalie to pull your bacon out of the fire anymore.
Also its MNSU, MSUM is Moorhead State, who Unfortunately screwed the pooch on getting a hockey program back in 2012.

Hypothetical Question, if enough schools in the Mountain Region added hockey, like Colorado, Utah and Wyoming along with Arizona, could you see Denver and CC leaving the NCHC for a New Mountain conference?

So I may be just discovering something that people were already aware of but it looks like covid nessciated some of the different southern club teams that had previously played across all three division forming a conference in order to put together a schedule, the list of schools could make for the basis of an actual south hockey conference, one that might be willing to let its members take there time in getting the arenas that the other conferences would want a pre-requisite for consideration.

I wonder do they think these guys who are going to play at this level when are 18 are still going to be underdeveloped boys? The reality is that the guys who spend a year or two in the juniors are normally doing so because they are late bloomers, if they were ready to play D-1 level hockey they would be going and not staying in the juniors, so this whole Idea that you have men playing against boys is a little ridiculous.
If only the general population had the same level of intelligence to recognize that not everyone is ready for college at age 18... I daresay a huge percentage of college student bodies would have benefited from maturing a bit before starting college.

MNSU gave him a 10 year contract extension in 2017, that is on top an 8 year extension in 2015, I'm not sure how that works but I guess he's locked in till at Least 2027. Plus he has a family with kids, would be pretty hard for him to uproot from a program that he basically built up and move his family to such a different environment.

While as a Hockey fan I greatly appreciate the Brass Bonanza and its place in Hockey history, that song first and foremost Belongs to Hartford, and secondly to the State of Connecticut, If U Conn wants to use then they should but we need to stick with what we have or find a different song that doesn't steal from another state/ regions hockey legacy.

I don't think they had that problem at the Coliseum on the MN State Fair Grounds, still really hate the arenas where there is a ton of open space between the boards and stands, at least the MN State Fair Coliseum could have some removable bleachers put in to take seating right up to the boards.

Reality Check, the amount found was Trillionths of a gram, additionally this happened Back in early Jan when he was tapped as a possible back up for the Olympic squad, they investigated and found that culprit was trace amounts of the substance in vitamin supplement that was not listed on the bottle.
Now for those of you going "Why is he taking vitamin supplements, he's 25 not 46?" or "Oh what is he afraid of COVID? Must watch CNN haha!", he's the starting goalie and has pretty much been the only starter for the last 4 years, to say nothing of being a star player, so if he gets sick that means they are going to have to put in a mostly untested back-up net minder. So if taking some vitamin supplements might help keep you healthy from either the Flu or Covid, you'd probably take it.
The Anti-doping agency ruled that the amount in his system had no performance enhancing effect because the amount was too minuscule and given that it wasn't listed on the ingredients in the vitamin supplement there is no way he could have known. So in a logical world this would be a non-issue, at the most they might have McKay record some sort of PSA about being careful about supplement's, and that would be the end of it. But of course this clown world, so every media article except for the one from CBS sports fails to mention how small the amount was, because Trillionths of a gram doesn't exactly grab eyeballs or make for controversy, and of course the USADA has to continue to justify its existence without causing a fuss so they in enact a stupid 6 month ban after the fact to say see we gave an appropriate punishment because even though there was no malicious intent as it looks like an honest mistake its still a break in the rules so now that his college career is done he can serve 6 month suspension and finish his degree and then, maybe, start with a pro club next year.
I guarantee you if this same thing happened to a Basketball or Football player at a Power 5 school the USADA would have not taken any action, except to comment on it being an unfortunate circumstance that the player in question had to go through this and then send an apology cookie bouquet to the player before closing the issue. They would not want the anger and shitstorm that would come from a Power five school's fanbase and alumni razing holy hell about banning a star player under similar circumstances even if the ban is mostly a slap on the wrist.

I still for the life of me don't understand why they aren't looking at Orleans arena, Its got enough seating, hotel is attached to the property, and its closer to campus. the only thing they would likely want to do is get new board and Dashers, along with some other minor renovations to add UNLV branding.

Not really a fair comparison, Not sure what the restrictions on in NY at the moment let alone in Long Island, also they are currently split between two facilities 30 miles away from there campus in Brooklyn and 17 Miles from there Campus in East Meadow. They need to get there Ice rink situation sorted out, but mandates likely aren't doing them a ton of favors.

So by the 23 -24 is going to have a slew of Independent programs
ASU, Alaska Anchorage(UAA), Alaska Fairbanks(UAF), Lindenwood, Augastana, and Alabama Huntsville(UAH) still has the funds for a program but won't resume hockey without a conference. So my main question, would these schools get together for an automatic conference bid?
My assessment is that Lindenwood and Augustina might be the more difficult to get on board as this would make for a pretty far flung conference, however I don't see them getting in to either NCHC or CCHA anytime soon, NCHC wants to maintain competitive edge and the CCHA wants to both grow competitiveness and remain geographical ,coherent. The other school however are used to travel so I think at least as far as travel goes you could get the other four onboard.
ASU might be hesitant, I think the have an overinflated opinion of how good there program is, however a chance for an auto-bid would definitely be an inducement for them to swallow there pride and help start a new conference. It would likely be a Battle between ASU and UAF for the first few years until some of the other programs find there feet. If also might help both programs rise in the standings, and if ASU is in the post season more it might encourage other schools to add, who knows we may even see a 32 team National Tourney someday.

All that is required is that they are citizens, Korea did it during the 2018 Olympics, but at least Korea was overwhelming made up of native Born players, the sport is actually getting more following there, I even played on a local adult team while I lived there. China has taken this to the extreme level, as far as I know any player from a forgien country had to renounce there US, Canadian or other citizenship to get on the Chinese team, since the PRC doesn't allow dual citizens.

Not sure what's more pathetic, China trying to buy itself an Olympic team or all these western athletes with so little love of country that they are willing to give up there citizenship just to play in the Olympics. Keep in mind China does not allow dual citizenship so any of these forgien athletes had to give up there citizenship in there real country in order to be on team CCP.

Hastings has pretty much killed his legacy at Minnesota State, not because he went to Wisconsin but because he stripped out everything when he went there. On the bright side if Luke Strand achieves success at Minnesota State it will be all his doing, no one can say that he just rode Mike Hastings coat tails. As for Hastings... well lets just no one is ever going to name an arena after him.
On a related note the University of Wisconsin decided to retire its long beloved Badgers nickname in favor of a new Moniker, the Vultures.
