  1. Yep, I was going to say that.  They are always the last one out so maybe he just grabbed the wrong one.

Thanks for catching that for me, guys! I wrote referencing the correct poll but pasted the incorrect one. Good catch.

  2. I like reading his stuff.  You just have to take everything he says with a grain of salt.  I think Montana State will finish 4 or 5 in the league this year because they have no defense.

I also agree with this. Montana State is reeling and in real trouble. The Bobcats, as of now at least, look like the league's most overrated team.

Also, after Saturday's win, I would say UND has the undisputable best defense in the Big Sky at this point in the season.

Montana State's defense is horrendous. If UND's defense can play against MSU like they did last season in Bozeman, UND will be fine. In fact, because UND is hosting this season's game in the Alerus Center, I would say UND could perhaps play even better defensively against the kitties of Bozeman.

Montana State's defense is among the worst I've ever seen. MSU has given up 26 plays of more than 32 yards in the last three weeks and that's with allowing just two against Cal Poly. EWU had 16 plays of more than 29 yards and NAU had 7 yesterday. MSU can't cover anyone and can't tackle either.

A few striking stats from my most recent Sunday Notebook:

Montana State is giving up 36.5 points and 464 yards per game this season, including 44 points and 526.3 yards per game against Division I opponents. Against Eastern Washington, Cal Poly and NAU, MSU is allowing 287.3 rushing yards per game and 6.1 yards per carry. MSU is also dead last in the Big Sky with a passer efficiency defense rating of 219.1.

  4. Thanks Colter!

I really enjoyed being able to the the conference call.  Question: I'm interested in a premium membership for skyline sports, but don't want to pull out the credit card without going for a test drive.  Do you or will you have any type of free trial?  I'm thinking only like 1 day to 1 week.

Email director of operations Brooks Nuanez at Brooks.Nuanez@gmail.com and we will be sure to walk you through getting a trial membership.

  5. We have a new feature: a podcast featuring the players of the week and other star performers from around the Big Sky Conference. We will produce it and post it each Thursday.

PODCAST: Stars of the Big Sky: Week 1— featuring Portland State CB Aaron Sibley, Idaho State WR Madison Mangum, Eastern Washington WR Cooper Kupp and Northern Arizona WR Emmanuel Butler

And the weekly coaches call featuring some questions from me to Bubba Schweigert

  6. Greetings UND fans,
Colter Nuanez here. I'm the director of creativity and senior writer for Skyline Sports, a new independent subscription-based newspaper-style website covering the Big Sky Conference. Some of you may know me as the guy who formerly ran Bobcat Beat, an online news gathering outlet covering Montana State athletics in association with the message board Bobcat Nation. I've covered the league for various newspapers since 2006. You can read more about us here: http://skylinesportsmt.com/about-us/

With our new endeavor, we will have beat reporting about Montana State along with frequent features and podcasts about all the other teams in the Big Sky. I wanted to introduce myself to those of you who do not know me and let you know that I will be providing features and other coverage about North Dakota throughout the season. I frequent this board because I love Big Sky football and because of that, I know that some of you do know me. Last season, I wrote and broadcast on our podcast that I thought UND would struggle. Some of you took me to task! I was proven wrong and I admitted such on our most recent UND podcast.

Our goal is to reach a point where we can cover the entire league with the same prevalence. Any interest we can get going at UND would be a huge plus. Thanks for reading, nice to meet you and don't hesitate to drop a line with comments, questions or feedback.
