  1. The question was if we had ever beaten a ranked team on the road. That question was answered. You can't have it both ways.

Well, I guess they count as a ranked team. But, I'd probably have just not responded if all I had was that we had beaten a team that was ranked in the top twenty-five for all of two weeks during the middle of the season.

  2. I believe SUU was ranked 17 when we beat them in 2011, one the road.

Wow, you beat what was ultimately a 6-5  team on the road four years ago. Quite an accomplishment.

Do you consider that your best FCS win, or would it be the time you beat a 5-6 Montana team?

  3. Well, to be fair you did say:

In other words, you yourself came up with the notion that there was no "visible" improvement during last season and that "most people" would say that UND hasn't proven a thing. Improvement is obviously relative, so what can you tell me about the 2013 season that led to Mussman's dismissal? That's the season that shows just how decimated the 2014 roster - that Bubba had to work with - was.

I responded using your terms: UND did improve "visibly" by winning more games, playing in more competitive games, and producing the #1 defense in the Big Sky Conference. All of those things are quite "visible", aren't they? Also, "most people" would say Bubba has showed improvement under Bubba's presence; he proved he can coach defense, considering he took many of the same players Mussman had in 2013 and turned them into the #1 BSC defense in 2014, and he proved he can recruit, by bringing in many players in the short-term (FBS transfers and true freshmen) who played right away and played admirably.

Lastly, we are talking about IMPROVEMENT here. No one is saying UND should have been a ranked team last year or is going to be a National Champion this season; however, the point being made by the rational people on this site (you're still trying to join that group, as far as I'm concerned) is that UND is improving. Bubba will continue to improve UND football given his assistants' ability to coach and the recruiting classes he has put together thus far.

With that, I'll apologize to everyone else on this site for even arguing with you, and here's my logic:

You know, given this rant, you might think that I had actually said that UND wasn't improving, or that they wouldn't be better next year.  The problem is that I never said that. I did say that UND has a long way to go, that they hadn't proven anything yet, and that most people would agree with me.

I don't see how you can say that that's not reasonable. In fact, in light of an up-and-down 5-7 2014 season, it seems far more reasonable that your assertion that Bubba is a top-notch coach, and that UND will have a winning season next year. Those things may be true, but there just isn't enough evidence that they are true...yet.

  4. Dear Sir,

Please use some common-sense when you post.

"Most people" who are familiar with UND football, and even honest NDSU fans, understand that UND football is improving. There is no reason UND can't be a top 3 Big Sky Conference team every season considering where its facilities and budget are at right now. Of course, this can only happen as long as UND is led by competent coaches; fortunately, Bubba and his assistants are just that. Unfortunately, before last season, UND was led by incompetent coaching.

UND, in 2013, went 3-8, then, after Mussman was fired, they lost several key contributors, including a couple who will be playing/starting on FBS squads in 2015. Bubba, coaching a decimated, inexperienced roster, then went ahead and improved two games from 3-8 in 2013 to 5-7 in 2014. Now, UND has its entire defense returning (which was #1 in the Big Sky Conference in 2014) and several talent additions to the offense (including a few in progress) for the 2015 season. Also, the recruiting classes Bubba has put together so far are filled with ND/MN/Canadian talent which will better prevent defections.

"Most" - as you put it - would look at that and see improvement in 2015 for UND. Mark my words, UND will have a winning season in 2015.

So, that's what you've got, a two win improvement, and an "everybody knows" argument?

OK, that's pretty weak, but whatever makes you feel better.

  5. Right...you assume I didn't get it and mention that you believe I didn't get it, to what? Make yourself seem credible? More intelligent? Superior?

Well your assumption is incorrect, making you look like the @$$ you are!

I understood what you meant. The problem here is that your the one not getting it. You're on a UND fan board spreading your FU garbage that none of us care to hear.

We are getting better and that is visible!

Well, if you see "visible" improvement in a 5-7 season with, maybe, one significant win...well more power to you. Most people would say that, despite the great Bubba's presence, UND hasn't proven a thing on the field yet.

  6. Thank you nosidel for pointing out exactly what I am talking about...you are so annoying. This post you made is idiotic

I guess I shouldn't have expected you to get it. It's about self-delusion...seeing something other than reality. Sometimes hope does that to us.

  7. I'm so sick of all these FU folk on here. This is a UND thread. Yes, we have been irrelevant, but won't be for much longer. We know it because its visible. You know it because you are on here and the game is coming fast! Save all your crap for after the game. We obviously don't care what pessimistic banter you keep trying to spread on here. If we did, we'd go to Bisonswell where all you FU fans continue to swell those enormous heads of yours....

You know, sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel you think you see is really a freight train bearing down on you.

  8. Long way to go?

    I beg to differ.

Last season, with a patched up roster and very few of his own recruits, Bubba got UND to 5-6, an upset vs NAU, and close to several more upsets (Montana and Montana State). This season, the roster is so much more improved.

Sorry Bucky, the years of UND football having losing seasons are over.

OK, if you say so. You certainly are in a better position to know than I am.

Still, you have had more losing seasons in the last 5 years than NDSU has had in the last 50. So, as I said, you still have a long way to go.

Edit - I should also remind you that last year, in a 5-7 season, you beat a terrible Robert Morris team by all of 3 points at home, and you got blown out by a team that won just a single game in the MVFC.

  9. Good one Johnny....

UND has had plenty of hyped up games in just the past few seasons, but they have dropped most of them. I think this season and definitely 2016 will be the years when Bubba gets UND to get over that hump, especially home games. Last year, UND almost/should have knocked off #7 Montana at home. This season, UND has a very real chance of going undefeated at home, meaning possible upsets vs Montana State and Idaho State (also big road opportunities vs Wyoming, NDSU, and Montana). 2013 also had big home games, such as SDSU and Montana, but Mussman had UND football in a bottomless pit.

UND football is getting there with some top-notch cosching from Bubba and his assistants. Your BS is way too obvious.

I'd say that you're counting a few un-hatched chickens. The reality is that you've had losing seasons three out of the last four years (or is it 4 out of 5?). You've got a long way to go before you even see the hump.

  10. Say that to my face and you will find out what I throw-

C'mon, you misspoke, no need for threats. Besides, what I said was pretty mild compared to "tarded up by tards".

BTW - I suggest you look up the meaning of the idiom: "mince words."

  11. Dr. Mincer,

Should I have said "was a critical MVC game in the Bison's season"

Bison were 3-1 in conference play, SUI was 4-1 in conference play heading into the 2012 game. I guess that game didn't mean much. Done with this-

Again, don't throw stones, you live in a glass house.

  12. You're mincing words, small comeback win in terms of points, huge in establishing a presence in the MVFC.

I'm retiring from this thread, too many tards tarding it up.

Are you really saying that NDSU's 2012 comeback win over SIU (4-7 in 2011) helped the Bison (14-1 and National Champs in 2011) establish a presence in the MVFC?

Well, you know what they say about people who live in glass houses.

  13. Basketball games have been boring. First one in Fargo was neat for about 10 minutes. Fans come in with these expectations and it doesn't live up to it.

It's very likely that this year's football game will follow that same script.

  14. I don't think we have to jump on Bison73, I do remember him previously saying that he felt there were many Bison fans who wanted the game and thought it would be a big, exciting game on the schedule.  He actually has rational thoughts from what I recall.  Now Nosidel, he is blind.  Although he did just say that people he talk to are divided, so that means some don't want it, but some definitely do.  Previously he seemed to always say NO NDSU fans want the game, the students done care.....etc. etc. etc.   Sounds like he is contrasting himself, now saying people are divided. By the various facts that we've already seen, it is obvious there is interest on the NDSU side.   Yes probably more interest on the UND side, I would agree.  I'd agree some NDSU students may not care about playing UND, but once the game comes around....that whole week people will be jacked up for the game.  It will be WAY different than the week before the UNI or SDSU game.  Nosidel will still never admit it even when it happens, it is a complete lost cause trying to talk rationally with him.

Of course, some Bison fans wanted this game and will be excited about the game. I have never contended otherwise.

What I have said is that there are a significant number of Bison fans who did not want this game and have mixed feelings about the game itself. They certainly want NDSU to win, but they always want that no matter who NDSU might play. Likewise, they certainly will attend the game, but they would also have attended whatever other game might have been on the schedule. And I do still contend that any increase in interest in this game, or at least most of it, will be due to the proximity of a large number of UND fans to the Fargo area, and not to any great surge in interest in NDSU football on the part of Bison fans. As I've Said before, NDSU didn't need this game to create interest in their football program. That interest was there, and would still be there, with or without UND on the schedule.

    You're free to disagree.

  15. There are many who are excited about this game. Please quit trying to suggest you represent the majority.

I have no idea whether I represent the majority, or not. And I don't think that you really do either. I do know that those Bison fans I talk to are very divided on whether this game should have been scheduled in the first place and whether it should be continued.

  16. Read more into what?  Holding a press conference when it hasn't been done before?  Setting ticket prices higher than a rival/homecoming game?  Special shirts?  All of those things were done directly by NDSU.  And how has UND been hyping the game for years?  It just got scheduled in August.

UND fans aren't the ones spinning themselves dizzy trying to convince themselves and anyone within shouting distance that this game doesn't hold more meaning than a typical OOC game.

UND fans are the ones dizzying themselves trying to convince bison fans that they really are excited about this game.

  17. It's gonna be a huge game because of the tailgating and atmosphere. NDSU fans can bull$%!# all they want about how the dome won't fit anymore than last year, yada yada yada....

But the bottom line is that the atmosphere during the week leading up to the game and the tailgating outside the dome will be crazy. Its going to be WAY bigger than anything UNI or SDSU could produce, that's for sure.

Then, all that is left is for Bubba and the boys to pull the upset.

Honestly, why is it so important that this game be such a huge game? The season will go on before and after this game is played. Sure, there will be increased interest in the game, particularly by UND fans. Nevertheless -- barring an upset by UND -- by playoff time this "huge" game won't have made any real difference to either team.

  18. Two ways to realistically look at raising UND football's budget:

    1) Lower the budget/expenses of UND hockey and allocate the savings to UND football

    and/or

    2) Shutdown some programs (women's hockey, softball, etc.) and then allocate the savings to UND football.

One of these things should happen. UND football needs more financial support.

    or

    3) Lower the budget of hockey, and/or cut some programs, and then allocate the money saved to a combination of basketball and football.

IMO, basketball offers the best potential bang for the buck.

  19. They were denied membership in 1996 and promptly joined the Mid-Con (now Summit).  Not sure if they officially applied for the spot UNC got in 2006 (under direction of former AD Tom Douple) but records show they were interested at the time.  The Big Sky is where they always aspired to be and they bolted when given the chance in 2010, even though Douple had switched over to commissioner of the Summit by that time.

For fun, here's a quote from former athletic director Tom Douple when he was at SUU:

My point was that Darrel's post was silly. Something obviously changed in the Big Sky between NDSU's being turned down for membership and UND's receiving a bid. SUU's acceptance into the Big Sky at the same time as UND after being turned down at around the same time as NDSU pretty strongly demonstrates that.

In any case, NDSU would not switch conferences with UND, and is certainly not jealous of the Big Sky.

  20. .

When you think Duke, you think BB. When you think Alabama, you think FB. When you think UND, you think ..............?

Duke has a football team in which many fans are passionate about, but you don't really think of Duke as a FB school. Same could be said about Alabama and BB. Like it or not, UND is known for its hockey. This doesn't mean that the other sports can't be competitive. It's just the way it is. I don't think the NFL is looking at Bubba or Brian Jones as potential coaching candidates. Hakstol just signed a deal with the Flyers as the first college coach to make the jump since Badger Bob. I'm not saying scrap the other sports, I love going to football games when we are competitive. It's not a hockey only attitude, it's just the fact that people are more supportive/interested in teams that have more success. Sorry, but that is the reality!

Here's the problem: there are really only two NCAA sports that matter in terms of fan popularity and national media exposure -- basketball and football. All of the schools that you mentioned have one of those two sports as their primary sport. The exposure that an Alabama gets from its football team, or a Duke gets from its basketball team, so greatly out weighs the exposure UND gets from its hockey team that your comparing UND to those schools is absurd.

The hard reality for UND as a hockey school is that a couple of sweet sixteen runs in the NCAA men's basketball tournament -- which is, I think, attainable for either NDSU or UND -- would return more media exposure and national interest than a hockey program ever can.

  21. Why do you care about how we are doing in the BSC? Jealous you guys couldn't get in...twice? But thanks for your interest in UND and Big Sky athletics.

How many times did SUU fail to get into the Big Sky? Remind me, when did they (SUU) ultimately get their bid?

  22.

EDIT: Every time I wheel this out someone always pipes up and asks -- "what changed for UND, then?"  I will try to get out ahead of that one this time by simply saying that the total and utter collapse of the NCC is what shifted the entire paradigm and forced UND to make the leap.

This is utter nonsense. The NCC was a perfectly viable DII conference when UND announced it was leaving. It was UND's leaving that caused the NCC to collapse not the other way around.

  23. What makes me laugh is that Colorado State University students embrace the old name "Aggies".  Even though they are the Rams now, the kids there totally dig the name "Aggies".

The crowd, a lot of students there, love wearing the Aggies shirts with those fugly orange and green colors.  It's part of their heritage.

But at Fargo, they hate that name.  It's probably because of low self-esteem.  They hate their history and wish people would forget.

    They got issues..

Myself, I wouldn't mind being the Flickertails again.  Why not?  I'm proud of UND's heritage and tradition.

Unlike those self-loathing folks at the College of Home Economics...

Who said NDSU hates being called the Aggies? UND's 100 year history of farming jeers and taunts reflect badly on UND, not on NDSU.

You call NDSU what you want. You're the ones who look bad.

  24. Yeah, it's sourced from Wikipedia, but surely the NDSU FB zealots keep it accurate:

    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Dakota_State_Bison_football

    Learn your school's history lad.

I am quite aware of the history of the school. What I said is the I've never heard anyone call them that...present tense.

You can call NDSU the Aggies all you want. No one's going to get excited about it. Now, if UND proposed changing their name to Aggies that would be a bit different.
