I felt Forbort's improvement from last year to this year was quite impressive. Although I appreciate most things Coach Eades did at UND, developing defensemen for the NHL wasn't, IMO, one of his strong areas. He was very good with "defensive defensemen," but didn't seem able to do much to improve the more offense-minded players. Personally, I have always preferred to have the lock-down defensive players at UND and didn't care much for the puck-handling, offensive defensemen. However, after watching Big Mac get called for a penalty every time he touched another player this year, I recognize the NCAA isn't going to let us play a bruising defensive style anymore.

Been watching Sioux hockey since 1954. Season ticket holder beginning when the old Ralph was built. It seems that letting Eades go changed the dynamics of Sioux Hockey. He like Gasperini (for most of his tenure) and Blaise had the respect of the players.
Never was good at spelling.

Not investing any emotion in the Hak coaching job. Will continue enjoying watching the Sioux--a group of young men who have provide years of entertainment/enjoyment.
With the current Alumni Director/Coach relationship--the only coaching change would be if Hak decided to retire. In the meantime resigned to the fate that, for whatever reason, a Hak coached team will most likely never win a national championship.

The injustice was moving Denver from Providence. Not an injustice to Denver but a great gift to BC. Now they play Union. It was a given that the Sioux would be moved to West or Midwest. Paranoia tells me they wanted to make sure in wasn't a WCHA final four and didn't want the Sioux and Minnesota playing for the championship.

Everyone seems to think that this was a huge injustice done to UND. According to Pairwise UND was an 8 seed, and Minnesota a 2 seed. The 2 seed should have the 7 seed in its bracket. The 7 seed is New Hampshire, and they are hosting their own regional, so they couldn't be in the same bracket as Minnesota. So switching the 7 and 8 seeds is not a big injustice. It is unfortunate that UND and Minnesota end up in the same regional again instead of having the chance to meet in the Frozen Four. But it isn't a huge injustice to either school based on their Pairwise ranking.
The biggest injustice was probably done to Quinnipiac, and Boston College got the biggest advantage. Quinnipiac was ranked number 1 because they won the games they needed to win to get that ranking. They end up playing in the same bracket as Boston College, less than 1 hour from the BC campus. That isn't an advantage for Quinnipiac. It gives BC more of an advantage than they earned this season. That is the bracket with the biggest injustices. UND and Minnesota in the same bracket is just unfortunate.

That's probably the bottom line.

Bottom line if UND doesn't get consistent play and effort from the 18 guys in the lineup and decent goaltendeing Niagara might give us more than we want regardless of the region.
-
No one thinks so except BC and the committee. It would be quite a deviation from past history for BC not to end up in Providence. They won't have the Sioux playing Denver.
-
Logic? Are u thinking attendance too?
Do you really think the #1 overall seed should have to play a team tied for the highest 2 seed in a regional close to their home?

Sioux will be in WEST or Midwest Region--most likely West
BC will be in Providence.

Hope you guys are right, but since there are 6 WCHA teams in the tournament, they can completely disregard that rule if they want.

I can think of two seasons where Mankato deserved to make the NCAA tournament and did not (forgive me for not remembering what years they were). The first obvious one was the year Wisconsin hosted a regional and was selected to the tournament despite Mankato having a better record and Bucky being .500 or a game below. The Badgers promptly dusted off Denver and lost to UND in the regional final. The other was a year when Mankato finished the year hotter than a pistol including a two-game sweep of St Cloud at the National Concrete Center only to see St Cloud get picked for the tournament. The Huskies finished the season on an 0-6 tear and promptly got smoked by a HE school in the first round of the NCAA's.
Mankato deserved better both times.

First time on a blog--Graduating 6th is starting to show.
It is hard to judge Bob May and Barry Thorncraft(sp) as those were different times-players a little more mature. These teams were great fun to watch.
the 70, were some of the worst--especially since we had moved into the 'old Ralph'
Were you on those great Epping BB teams?

1954? Wow, bakka, I thought I was an old-timer from the '80's! Nice to see that it's not all 18-20 year olds on here. How would you compare Hakstol's coaching to others you have watched? I'm curious to know...
BTW...Epping High School?

Just an 'old fella' who reads the threads. Watched Sioux Hockey since 1954--season ticket holder since the old Ralph was built Seen most home games, been to regionals and frozen 4's--many final 5's Don't know that much about couching--never stayed in a Holiday Express but did graduate 6th in my high school graduation class. (7 in the class) If your still reading couple of observations.
Obviously Mr. Haksdol is a good coach--record speaks for it self. However being a good coach is not the same as being a winner.
Watching Mr Haksdol coach the 1st 2 years it was my opinion that he coached 'not to lose'--seems to me it is better to coach 'to win'.
Believed coaching 'not to lose' was coming to an end as the 2011 & 2012 teams always played 'to win'--if my memory is correct they lost few games when they were leading going into the 2nd or 3rd period.
Not sure if the same is true this year.
Eades-brought his lunch bucket to work every day--had to be a good example for the players. Looks as if we now have coaches that bring their brief cases to work.
Have at me bloggers-old skin is like leather.

You gotta be kidding--It was well known in the hockey world that if you were a defenseman and wanted to go to the NHL--you payed for the Sioux.
