  1. The percentage is apparently representing someone's lack of handle on valid statistics......

It's just a clumsy rehash of the "it's better to be a big fish in a small pond" argument UND fans have been making for years. Unfortunately, he can't find numbers that really make his point.

Yes.  He really does seem to be struggling.

  2. Who cares?  What is the point of this back and forth?

I have no idea.  I just was pointing out the mistake he made in his other post because several other posters thought it was an amazing statistic.

  3. Ok boonie boy how about this one?

Ndsu football - 9 guys in the nfl this year - 60 ncaa scholarships - 15%

Und hockey - 13 guys in the NHL this year - 18 ncaa scholarships - 72%

What is the percentage supposed to be representing?

    (I know 9 out of 60 is 15%)

  4. In the past 7 years 36% of NHL debuts have come from college hockey. Only 2% of ncaa baseball players make it to mlb. Not a very good comparison.

Was the purpose of your post to compare 2 completely different statistics, or were you trying to make a comparison between the 36% and the 2%?  If you were trying to make a comparison, you failed.  One is the percent of professional athletes that came from their respective college sport, whereas the other is the percent of college athletes that make it professional in that sport.  I realize these may sound similar, but take a couple seconds to think about it and you'll realize they aren't at all the same.  If you want to compare MLB with the 36% statistic, you would need to look up the percent of MLB players that came from college baseball (which I'm assuming is significantly higher than 2%). Or, if you were trying to compare with the 2% statistic, you need to find the percentage of college hockey players that make it to the NHL, which I'm sure is significantly lower than the 36% (I doubt 36% of college hocky players make it to the NHL).

I would not have guessed that, how does a baseball player make the big league?

Read the stat again.  They are completely unrelated.

But not as many, 36% to 2% that is a HUGE gap.

  5. Yep, no doubt you earned it and should be proud.  NDSU has reached the status of Montana in which every benefit will be given to these 2 teams to ensure either a bye or first round home game.  I have no problem with this, it's earned on the field and with ticket sales.

But, UND hasn't played an NFL team and never will.  NDSU has played 2 road play-off games, 1-1, and will eventually play another road play-off game.  That's the difference.  To point out it's hard to play on the road vs. 12 or so home play-off games is just a fact.  I don't know why some SU guys monitoring this site are so insecure about this.  I am done pointing out the facts.  Time to go pheasant hunting with the Cogswell Cannon.  Roll Bearkats!!

I am still struggling to figure out what the point of your original post was.  Are you saying NDSU's run is less impressive because they were more successful in the regular season, thereby earning home field advantage throughout the playoffs?  Would it have been more impressive, in your mind, if NDSU had gone something like 11-10 in their regular season road games since 2011 (as opposed to going 20-1), had to play road games in the playoffs, and then win 3 consecutive national championships and have a semifinals appearance, at minimum, in the 4th year?

Also, not insecure about this topic at all.  Strange minds just fascinate me.

    Good luck pheasant hunting.

  6. Bison Championship seasons, zero road victories and counting!! No one with a brain considers neutral site games road games. We are beating a dead horse on this point.

Did I argue that neutral site games were the same as road games? NDSU is undefeated in road playoff games in their D1 FCS Championship seasons. That is a fact. What was the point you were trying to make with your original quote, which could be misleading to those who were not aware that NDSU had EARNED home field advantage throughout the playoffs each of their FCS Championship seasons? Your quote has as much meaning as saying UND is undefeated against NFL teams.
  7. What a great observation - How about the shape of the earth, what's the latest on that?

I am far more impressed with Illinois St. than the 'turd'.  The 'turd' should be thankful for all the home games......just how many road playoff games have the Bison won in this stretch?  I believe it's zero.

Since you're saying NDSU has won zero road playoff games "in this stretch", I'm assuming you mean during the run of 3 consecutive national championships.  If that is what you are referring to, then to stay away from the neutral/road game debate, I would say that NDSU is undefeated in road playoff games during this stretch.  Whether you say a neutral site game is a road game or not, there is no arguing that NDSU has not lost a road playoff game during the stretch that you appear to be referring to.

  8. 3 minutes after that, it was 27-13, hardly insurmountable.

The logic behind this is flawless... You do realize that every successful comeback in the history of sports gets closer and the game gets closer to the end, right?
  9. I love it how bison fans are ripping the Big Sky Conference. They rave about how weak the Big Sky is. The funny part about that is ndsu had all they could do to beat Weber State couple weeks ago. Weber State's record is 0 and 5 and are the worst team in the Big Sky. Something in that logic doesn't seem to fit.

I'm pretty sure the MVFC was 7-1 against the Big Sky this year.

  10. The NEC is terrible.

When RMU was the conference champion the ac rolled them 43-17, and the ac had 4 conference wins that year.

If you can't slap around the patsies on your schedule things are worse than I even thought.

That is true, but the ac also rolled Montana State the following week 42-17 in Bozeman.

However, I will say that I think UND gets a 10+ point win tomorrow.

  11. So.......GT signed a home and home with Weber St. Wasn't real nice to contradict some of the main talking points of the FU faithful....Home and home only acceptable with other top schools (Weber is not), must have 6 home games and an FBS away game (GT has assured NDSU can only have one or the other in 2015). Oops.

Still can't see a home and home being signed as long as GT is at the helm of FU's athletic department. They'll meet in the playoffs before a contract is ever signed.

How did the Weber State home and home affect that scenario in 2015? Weber State will be in Fargo in 2015. Unless you're assuming that they will buy it out like Montana State did, but then the buyout would mean that date was open again to get another home game to replace Weber State. If anything, the Montana home and home would affect the 6 home games and an FBS game in 2015 since NDSU will be going to Montana that year.

  12. I didn't bring SU in to this. One of your SU trolling posters did. Both team averaged 33 PPG last season and UND scored a ton vs. a poor Valpo team. I'm just calling out the "mediocre" comment. Stats are deceiving especially when you spin them as you want. I wouldn't consider either ND school's offense mediocre, but SU's stellar D helps out their offense more than UND's...at least the past couple years.

You must be talking about a Bison intrasquad scrimmage.

This was the first post mentioning anything about NDSU/Bison/FU/etc. (post #26)

Point is if you think UND's offense is "mediocre"...how would you classify NDSU's or for that matter most of the MVC teams???

I have watched enough FCS FB as well as SU FB to understand SU's success as of late has been inspite of it's offense.

This is the second post mentioning anything about NDSU/Bison/SU/FU/etc. (post #32)

  13. Stats make both ND schools look compariable offensively. Plain and simple.

Yes they did last year. Stats can be very deceiving... Nice work avoiding the original comment that was made. Someone said that UND's offense is mediocre, which you seem to disagree with. I would also disagree with that, IF you are looking at their games vs non-playoff quality opponents. However, against playoff-quality opponents (which SDSU likely is), UND's offense was mediocre at best... Why do you keep bringing NDSU into this?

  14. This...^^^^^^

You swap defenses on the 2 teams last season and UND averages 40+ PPG and NDSU around 24-27 PPG. It would be about a TD swing in both directions IMO. That tells you how good and bad both defenses were last year.

Why do you keep trying to bring NDSU into this? I was strictly talking about UND's offense. Someone said that they are mediocre. The stats may make it look like UND's offense is spectactular, but against playoff caliber opponents, they have been anything but spectacular.

  15. Its also on AGS started by a Bison fan, went about 4 or 5 pages before one single UND fan commented on it. I love the argument UND needs NDSU more than NDSU needs UND, and the game should ONLY be played in Fargo. Well how about this rebuttal on that....UND and NDSU's schedule is full in 2014, but 2015-2018 UND has 1 spot to fill per year so 4 spots for 4 years, NDSU has on average 2-3 spots empty per year so 8-12 spots for 4 years, and with teams backing out of home and homes on them, plus the price for a team coming to Fargo (remember Bison fans say the team CANNOT go on the road), I would think NDSU needs UND to fill that void without fear of a backout and without charging outrageous prices to come to Fargo. So when GT schedules another Ferris State or brings in Prairie View for 500,000 (prices do go up every year), lets see how long it takes him to give Faison a call to schedule a home and home.

Where is the guarantee that UND wouldn't buy out like MSU did this year?

  16. FYI, we also put up 41 against FBS San Diego St.

Ok. Then the 2012 UND team averaged 21.3 ppg against FCS playoff teams and an FBS team. Would you consider 21 ppg anything more than mediocre?

  17. But they don't because they are in different conference! You can only play the teams that are scheduled. But I guess 33>>>>33.5 in the remedial math classes offered at the AC!

Again...really slow for you AC people...the term "mediocre" was thrown out by one of you AC clowns. By the numbers I guess both offenses are mediocre...problem is our D stinks!

Obviously they are in different conferences, so they don't play the same teams, which is why I looked at how each team did against playoff quality opponents. Sure, UND can put up 66 on the South Dakota School of Mines, and NDSU can put up 66 against Prairie View. UND and NDSU probably could've put up as many points as they wanted to in those games. That is why I think it's a little more telling to look at how teams did against playoff quality opponents. Looking at those games, UND's offense was very mediocre. Against non-playoff quality opponents, UND's offense is well above mediocre. (I'm not saying NDSU's offense is spectacular).

  18. Point is if you think UND's offense is "mediocre"...how would you classify NDSU's or for that matter most of the MVC teams???

I have watched enough FCS FB as well as SU FB to understand SU's success as of late has been inspite of it's offense.

Versus playoff teams last year, UND averaged less than 15 ppg. NDSU averaged 27 ppg against playoff teams.

  19. Just did a quick search and they finished 5-8. So correcting my above post....

Teams are 24-52. That looks a lot better. We'll go with that.

And that is about, what, 5 less wins than the last 8 FCS teams UND has beaten, and 24 more wins than all of the FBS teams UND has beaten?

  20. Interesting stat today I found out from a college football guru. Double checked it and the SOB was right....

    2007 Minnesota finished: 1-11

    2010 Kansas finished : 3-9

    2011 Minnesota finished: 3-9

    2012 Colorado state finished: 4-8

    2013 Kansas state....currently 0-1

    Total combined record: 11-38

Hopefully Kansas State makes that number look a bit better as the year goes on.

What made you pick those 5 teams?

  21. To compare apples to apples...here is UND's record vs 4 FBS teams since 2010...

2010...lost to Northern Illinois 23-17...N.I. finished #30 in the final 2010 FBS power rankings...best team either NDSU or UND has played and UND was one play away...

2011...lost to #83 Fresno State 27-22...again just one play away from winning...

2011...lost to #113 Idaho 44-14 (UND was up 14-10 at half and fell apart in 2nd half to a poor FBS team, it was the following week after game vs Fresno St...but none-the-less a poor effort and the only one of the 4 games that was

2012...lost to #66 San Diego State 49-41...again just a play or two away...

That's comparing apples to apples vs NDSU...yes NDSU is 4-0 against their 4 FBS opponents and UND is 0-4 but you can see the gap isn't that far off. UND has played better opponents and had opportunities to win 3 of the games and led the other at half...no one would claim that UND was a national championship caliber team in any of those years while NDSU was the best team in FCS all 3 years. Point is that my assumption for NDSU to calm down about their 4 FBS wins is correct.

I disagree that you are comparing apples to apples. In order for this to be an apples to apples comparison, that would assume that an FBS team's ranking is affected the same amount by a loss to NDSU as a win over UND.
