  1. And I don't think Montana or MSU have ever recruited a ND kid for football.

I know of one ND player that was recruited by at least one Montana School. Ryan McNally from Minot Ryan got a scholarship to Montana State, transfered after his redshirt season to attend NDSU but he didn't cut it. For any Track people, Ryan also had a small blow up his senior year at the state track meet and cost the Lions a state track title.

  2. On the contrary: http://www1.ncaa.org/membership/membership_svcs/sponssummary .

Go to this site and scroll down to Men's Ice Hockey. You'll see 7 D2 hockey teams. Crookston is actually one of them although they're independent. The rest are apart of the ECAC.

But that is still besides the point because the NCAA could really make D2 hockey for real by making all the teams that have D1 with the rest of sports in D2 be D2 in hockey. Also all the D1 hockey teams that are D3 in all sports should be made to play D3 hockey.I think this makes perfect sense and i would definately support this logical change by the NCAA.

It might look good or paper, but it really isn't logical or practical at all. The point you're making would also force D1AA teams to play D1 in every sport, or is that the acception to the rule? It's just OK for football but no other sports.

Why don't we just create a whole new division called the D1 wannabe's, D1 table scraps, or maybe the Crap of D1.

Sounds good to me, and NDSU would fit in just fine.

  3. I think NDSU could definately beat any of the teams in the play-off field. We beat Montana, remember? They're better than any of those teams.

Stop pulling crap from your arse and trying to smear it all over this message board......Ass Clown

  4. You pretty much nailed why UND got the home field... Strength of Schedule.

North Alabamma is undefeated, but UND had a tougher schedule. North Alabamma, if they beat UND on Saturday, will HOST the National Championship Game the next week. So why not put them on the road, against a team that played tougher opponents this year, and see if they ARE as good as their record indicates?

And as far as the neutral sights go, the NC$$ knows they won't make as much money off of a Division II game played at a nuetral sight as they would by making one of the two teams host.

I say we all should just be happy that the Sioux will be home again for a playoff football game, and let's kick some tail!!!

What about a football site that is not d2 for the championship? So there isn't a chance of home field for the title.

  5. I completely disagree, It all depends on what sioux team shows up to play. The UND defense is not as good as 2001, but if they are not on the field the entire game they will get the job done. If the offense is on track they can score on any d2 team.

How conservative will UND be on offense? Will the offense be on the field long enough for the defense to rest? and what Sioux team shows up? and will it be for the entire game?

It's funny that a lot of people have already predicted the Sioux to lose, but has anybody on this board watched both teams play? How do we know that UNA has good wins against good competition?

In reality most of us are just guessing.

  6. YEAH...it's really FAILED us this year!  I don't like playing Crookston anymore than you do but in the present world of DII - it pays!  Sorry for making it to the FINAL FOUR of college football...

We have had the ball bounce our way this year, several games we should have lost and pulled out. Great for UND, but most of those games should not have been that close. In almost all cases UND has been a far better team, but played down to the competition. Pitt State choked! and I just listened to that game. UND should have beat and had the ability to beat WSU by 30 and played down to them, I watched this game on dataflix.

You are an idiot if you don't think playing better opponents is going to make you a better team.

    Cali,

UND did not know or think Mesa was any good and thats why they lost to them. When UND first scheduled Mesa they were a cupcake team. (thats why we used to play morehead as well) Central Washington was the same situation as Mesa.

Most of Crookstons starters are not directly from the area.

I like your point about basketball and hockey, but it is not the same thing. There is a limited amount of games in football, you need to get geared up and prepared for conference play right away. In basketball and hockey you could lose 5 to 10 games and still get a crack, in football with one conference loss you might get in, with two your almost always outside looking in. (NDSU this year)

This might change with the new playoff format next season, but who knows for sure.

  7. I would like to understand how the NCAA came to the decision on who will host the semefinal playoff game? On the radio it was stated that attendance has effect, but its football rankings, strength of schedule, etc... that are factored in first.

UNA must have had a weak schedule, because I would think a team with a #1 ranking and no losses would get home field. If attendance is accurate, as Bison_Kent said, (I have not checked it out, I am taking his post as fact) it's pretty much a wash and UND must have something else over UNA.

I would just like to understand it a little better. Even though the home field will help a ton with the game, I don't like it if it is not truely deserved. I am sure there are valid reasons, I just don't know what they are.

The only reason I can come up with is the NCAA did not want UNA to have a home field run through the playoffs to the National Title.

Why can't D2 come up with a neutral game site?

  8. Through the course of the night I have talked to other knowledgeable football people, and it was agreed that Winona St., while a good team and admirable opponent, is much too gimicy (SP??) for my liking. UNDVince97-01 thought the same thing. Not meaning to take anything away from them, but I wondered what any other posters thought. A RB pass, at least 2 reverses, the OL jumping up at the same time & adjusting gaps, all of the playaction pitches they ran. Too gimicy for me & others.

I agree all the trick plays worked well and WSU ran the plays well. How long will that type of offense work? If they were in the NCC, good teams would see the offense every year and be able to ajust accordingly. I think the offense would still work, but they would not score nearly as many points over the course of a season.

WSU is a good team, I was especially impressed with them on defense. I am not sure how good the defense is though, because the UND offense did not play most of the second half. Joe Wilson had a lot of WR's open and did not get the ball to them.

UND needs to feel fortunate that they won, considering the offense did not show up for most of the second half. Watching the game I felt bad for the defense, those guys didn't get a break in the second half. Tough to play when you don't get any time at all to rest and make adjustments.

UND needs to play the entire game next week as good or better then they played the first half yesterday, or UNA will probably stomp them. I hope home field advantage for UND and the long trip has an effect on the UNA football team.

I would like to see Tom Sawyers playbook! WSU ran like 20 trick plays during the game, how many of these plays does he have installed in the offense?

  9. Do you think that because you played football at UND, all of us should bow down and kiss your feet? You must have think highly of yourself like some who play college sports do.
That is not at all how I am, I am just saying that I have a little more insite into the the football program and athletics at UND. You can take or leave my opinions but they are based on experience.

    UND33

Verk62....Sounds like someone has a little built up animosity? Were you a bench warmer for RT? Sounds to me like you never liked Grand Forks, the sioux, or RT...that makes you just as biased as everyone else and your opinions are simply that opinions, they have no more merit than anyone else. Get off your high horse.

Refer to the statement above as far as my opinions, but you really have no basis for your opinions about me personally. I love the football program at UND even though I think they do a lot of stupid crap. Just to let you know an injury ended my playing days at UND far earlier what should have been. (part of the game) Another part of the game is nutting up and playing some tough opponents. "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger" Eventually you will have to play some good teams if you want to reach the championship and you need to be prepared for those battles.

  10. Grand Forks has changed a great deal since I moved here in 1992. Most of that change occurred after 1997. I think you need to come back for a visit and bring yourself up to date.

    PCM,

I lived in GF through 1999 and understand there has been some positive changes in the city. The problems I had were more with the people in power in the city and what they choose to do with that power. Better Stadiums, shopping, and golf are great, but when I was there the city government needed an overhaul.

I love Fighting Sioux football above anything else at UND, and I think Dale Lennon is a great coach. I will be listening to the game online, I think it is going to be a battle. The Sioux have created some breaks for themselves this year, and the ball has bounced there way on more than a few occasions this season. Lets hope in continues.

One more note on Sioux/Bison Football no matter what else happens during a football season this is the one game that everyone involved could look forward too, and we as fans as well as the players will no longer have that, and it's disappointing to me.

  11. Your right, I have not lived in GF for a while. (which I do not regret, because GF is hole) By far the worst run city in ND.

I have every right to state my opinions about UND and I am pretty sure I have more first hand knowledge about the situation than most.

Have you actually been involved in athletics there in any way except as a fan?

You have the right to your opinion, but I think many around UND have bought into a bunch of political crap. Think it out using your own brain, don't just go along a not question some of what UND is doing. I played football for RT and know what he is, and its a politician, and he fits right in with that whole crowd.

If UND can't beat the teams they need to in order to get into the playoffs, then they do not deserve to be in the playoffs. Kind of like the Bison don't deserve to be in the playoffs this year.

I am making a judgement by the attendence at the Pitt State Game, it was garbage.

Don't bash me because I am not a sheep! Rinkrat, you go ahead and just keep following the herd.

  12. I didn't realize I went to school with a bunch of wimps that have no sense of history or tradition. The fact of the matter is UND could still make the playoffs with a loss to NDSU, and I bet UND would win more or these games then most of you seem to think.

NDSU is offering to play UND as D-1AA vs. D-2. That's like offering to fight the schoolyard bully, but only if you can bring a couple of friends to back you up. Why not fight him one on one? I guess the Bison must be afraid of the big bad Sioux, that's why they went running away from the NCC with their tails between their legs. Now they come back and challenge us with a stacked deck??? Play us on a level playing field or don't play us at all.

Dave K, you are sounding defensive and a little scared of playing any 1AA schools and that should not be the case. Any 1AA school would have some advantage but not enough to insure a win. Good D2 teams play with and beat good 1AA teams on a fairly regular basis and NDSU is not going to be a good 1AA team. The fact is if UND plays the game and wins or loses it does not matter for playoffs as long as they take care of business. Remember 6 teams from the region will make the playoffs next year.

GLIAC, NCC, NSIC, and that crap conference out west with only 4 teams

  13. I am in agreement with WYOBISONMAN in this case, UND essentially is the team with the choice here. Granted NDSU decided to move to 1AA, but that does not mean the teams cannot play.

Quit trying to put the ball in our court, because it is not.

I am not a Bison fan in any respects, but the ball is in UND's court. UND maybe never wanted it this way but it happened and the athletic department made there choice, and they are the only group that can change that choice.

  14. I'm a UND fan and I am still whining about it. The game means so much more than just the Nickel Trophy.

So what if NDSU has a slight advantage with scholarships, it will just be that much more embarassing when they lose.

Once again the playoffs are just a easy excuse (UND would not play the game anyway)

  15. P.S. if the bison still blow... and the sioux are the opposite of the bison... that means the sioux do what

So if the Bison and Sioux are opposite and the Sioux have good football team that is in the playoffs. What does that mean for your team?

Oh, you don't have to say we all know already.

  16. I still hold to my opinion no matter what some of you think. A good D2 football team can compete with a 1AA school. I am not saying they win all the time, but there are teams in D2 right now that would compete better than a bunch of 1AA schools.

Example - NDSU obviously was able to compete with a pretty good Montana team this season.

I am a UND guy, I even played football for a couple years at UND. My problem with not playing NDSU is that I feel the reason given is just an excuse. If a 1AA school was rated properly as far as D2 playoff implication, I still think UND would back out and let the rivalry die.

I am only going on opinion based on the things I saw when I played at UND, and not much has changed.

I hated playing the cupcake teams as well because UND 3rd and 4th string guys could whoop up on them and I don't think it really prepared the team for conference play. Maybe one of the reasons that UND seems to get off to a slow start most seasons. Especially on offense!

    PS. The Bison still Blow

  17. I was just guessing about the attendance because I can't make it from Houston, so I did not see the game.

I tried to watch on Satellite but UND forgot to mention that the game was being transmitted digitally. So the Bar I went to could not show it and I have not found one yet that would have been able too. It takes a 25,000 dollar receiver, and most sports bars don't splurge on things like that.

Just some information that would have been nice to have before the game started. Once again, thanks to the UND Athletic department for doing such a wonderful job.

  18. Does anyone know when the UND Thanksgiving break officially starts?

If the students are off Mon - Fri this weak many would have hit the road before the game against Pitt State was played. It sucks if thats the reason, well... it really sucks that people didn't show anyway.

I would love to be there but it just doesn't work out for me (distance)
