  1. TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    THat is a make up!

That's what I thought, especially after watching the replays of both fumbles. One was incomplete and the other the runner was down.

  2. I just checked the weather 90 percent chance all day.  It will be wet.  I need to pick up some raingear before I head to the game. Go Sioux.  ooops sorry Go UND.  Looking for an upset.  a mudfest. Ratelle covered like a ILB should be covered in mud.

I met his parents and his brother at our tailgate. That kid was a stud! even if the fumble return was a F--- up by the officials. :)

Don't know if the family frequents this board, but Tom says hi!!

  3. I think everyone agrees that it would be nice to have more balance (passing) in the offensive game plan.  The only disagreement seems to be whether UND has the personnel to do it, or whether UND should pass more even if it doesn't have the personnel.  I tend to think the coaches would implement a more balanced offense if they felt they had the players to execute it.  I think the inept offense is more a reflection of the players the coaches have than their abilities to install an offense and call plays.

I think Saturday is likely going to be a rough day.  Everyone talks about how UND's defense has improved.  And it has.  But the only teams it has been able to limit (Robert Morris and Stony Brook) have really bad offenses. This defense, while improved, will still give up plenty of points to a really good offense like Montana State.  And UND's offense isn't nearly good enough to keep up.  It hopefully won't be as bad as the last two years, but I think Montana State will win going away.

One of these years, I'd like to make it out to Bozeman to watch the game in person.

I'm planning a trip to Grand Forks next year for sure. didn't make it last year.

  4. Do you guys drink Big Sky beer in Bozeman or is that a no no in Bobcat coutry?!! :)

Our beer of choice at the tailgate is Miner's Gold, from Lewis and Clark Brewery in Helena, but there's lots to choose from. Montana has the highest number of micro-breweries per capita of anyplace in the US!!

  5. Our completion percentage really shows we should just drop back and pass.   I would like to see more passing as bad as our passing game is right now it would be counter productive.  With our QB we would just turn in over more and maybe complete 1 of 4 passes.  It needs to be part of the offense at some point but I don't think UND is capable at this point.

To that point, We have struggled some on defense so far, but if UND is THAT one-dimensional and can't throw a lick, our front 7 will stop the run especially with safety help. You will have to have some success throwing the ball to stay in this game.

  6. Question for you 1AAfan...why does Montana State U try to promote the "M" so much? I've never seen a school try to brand their image that way - almost to spite the U of Montana. Can't imagine Michigan State trying to something similar so I was curious about your own MSU.

The M is a tribute to the largest block M on the side of a mountain, anywhere in the country. I know because I had to paint it as a freshman.

  7. I am going to be the eternal optimist!

Stony Brook is solid defensively.  They are #1 in total defense in the CAA so far this year, and they were #2 in total defense in the CAA last season.  The CAA is a good league, right up there with the Big Sky and MVFC.

I am not going to make a prediction on the score against the Boobcats, but I will predict that we get over 300 yards total offense and it will be fairly balanced between run and pass.  Last year we ran for 165 yards on these guys.  We had no help from the defense.  Mollberg started and got yanked.  We all can see that it will take a lot for Joe to get pulled this year, so he shouldn't be looking over his shoulder.  If anything, he should be highly motivated to silence his critics.

Montana's defense is usually decent, but not as good as Stony Brook's, or perhaps even Missouri State's defense......

MSU runs the ball well, but I don't see them getting 330+ like last year.  The defense is playing well, and our linebackers appear to be the best position group we have.

You ran for a buck 65, but a lot of that was against our 2's and 3's

  8. The other option is that they want UND to prepare for both QBs.

No doubt that is part of the strategy with the closed practices. I also think you'll see many wrinkles in the offensive play-calling (No matter who is under center) and defensive alignments. As Tanner Bleskin stated in a feature article this week, "every game from now on is the Big Sky Championship"

  9. Can anyone from the Montana side give a nice run down of the injury situation - I know that the QB is hurt - not sure about the rest.

I'll try, but there have been SO MANY.

    • We all know about McGhee
    • Projected starter at DE (Gale) has not taken a snap yet, but may be available on Saturday
    • 2nd best WR (Flottkoeter) is out indefinitely
    • 3rd best WR (Roderick) is out indefinitely
    • Two or the projected starters at LB are out for the season, with one of them retiring in fall camp.
    • Starting RT out indefinitely, replaced last week by a starting guard and alot of rotation expected up front.
    • DT (Ashworth) questionable
    • CB (Armstrong) questionable
    • SF (Barnett) questionable

    I'm sure I've missed a few :(

  10. I lived in Grand Forks for 7 years and had nothing but respect for the UND tradition especially the skill level at the hockey arena. I have lived in Fargo the past 15 years.

The class and sportsmanship shown in the Alerus is what college athletics is supposed to be.

I was seated in Section 215(due to outside issues was not sure I would make the game and got ticket late). Sat with several Griz Fans, we had a good time discussing college athletics with several UND fans.

There was one person wearing GRIZ gear who needed to have GF police talk to him. He actually had seat I tried to get next to a UND fan I rode up with from Fargo. I had to sit several seats away, I knew he was loud but could not hear things he was saying in normal voice to UND fans seated near him. When I learned what was said, will just say he would have been removed from Washington Grizzly Stadium.

If I would have heard him, I would have gotten in his face and told him you represent Montana and given him two choices:

    A. Apologize to the woman and act like you are representing Montana.

    B. Go to Fargo, put on a green and gold colored shirt where that sort of behavior is tolerated.

I did talk to him at half time, asked if he was out of line to draw police or just loud; he said "probably out of line". I said fine, but try to remember we are Montana. My UND buddy I rode back to Fargo; he said the guy in Griz gear was ok after talking to the police.

I have walked out of a lot of stadiums as both a supporter of winning and losing teams. But never have walked out of a place where the score was that lopsided and fans of the other team (people I had never seen before or sat anywhere near) say to me and a lot of GRIZ fans “you guys are always welcome here because of how you conduct yourselves”.

I wish you continued success in your growth as part of the Big Sky Conference, in my opinion you are the definition of class in North Dakota college athletics.

    Thank you UND

I posted the above on EGRIZ, this is the first time I have posted on another teams page.

I have no particular interest in the game except to say unlike an a program in Fargo(that will not be mentioned by name) I have respect for both programs(UND and the Cats).

Did receive my post graduate degree from MSU and if they were playing anybody but the GRIZ for the national championship would probably pull(not cheer) for them.

Wish an injury free game for both teams and encourage your program to do what they can to avoid the cancer that is the program in Fargo.

    Good Post!!!

  11. It's all cool Geaux. No hard feelings as I know you're hurtin right now. I look forward to this renewed rivalry.

The Sky should have added ALL the Dakota schools 10 years ago when we had the chance!

  12. Coming off of a bye week is a massive advantage for any team. Combine that with a better MSU team on a mission after giving a game to EWU and an inexplicably flat and pathetic performance by UND and you've got a recipe for an ass kicking. So yes, the bye week had something to do with it, if you disagree then you 1. didn't play the game at a high level and 2. are too much of a homer to realize that more goes into a game than just what your team does.

    And.........over-react much? ? ? ? ? ?

I did play the game at a fairly high level. (If scout team and special teams counts :) )

I just think your use of the bye as a primary excuse is a little over the top. (On multiple threads) Now the injuries, that may be another story.

We got healed up and you came in banged up. If you would have explained it in those terms maybe i wouldn't have "overreacted".

  13. What game was their buy week before and how many teams did they play who were coming off of a buy week?

Dude, Really? the bye caused you to get beat by 40+, Twice??

Had nothing to do with talent and execution.

  14. 2. Mr. Mackey, I realize that you made a big hit. But the scoreboard indicates that we are down by 4 scores and I seriously doubt that it will make up for the plays that were missed, so why strut around? Huddle up, get your kudos from your teammates in the huddle and get ready for the next play. We need to stop being about "me" and start worrying about "we". Oh yeah, and despite the hit, the guy still caught the ball and it was for a first down.

I said the same when this happened, but to their credit, a bunch of the DL and LB's were getting on him and I think one even discreetly pointed at the scoreboard.

  15. 15 Carries for 15 yards. I guess that guy won't have to eat his hats....

That was me, but I did think you could throw for 300. The Cats played the most complete game I've seen in 10 years against what I thought was going to be a tough out. Good luck the rest of the way and I hope to see you in person at Alerus next September!!
