  1. Too far back to find now. He would change my posts and kept changing my signature line. Then laugh about changing it. I do not care if you believe it or not but it is true. Why don't you ask him if he has ever done this. If he says no he is a liar.

Changing sigs and avatars is one thing. That has been going on for quite a while to the sites most loyal users and doesn't affect what you actually are posting. But no, I don't believe you about the posts. No reason to change those and it would accomplish nothing unless you are talking about changing something in a quote. That is also a very common message board gag (FYP - fixed your post). I will not ask about it because I'm positive it didn't happen like that and you don't care if I believe you. Besides if it was that long ago I question recalling the details correctly. I'm sorry you feel wronged and are totally within your right to not go back. But don't expect someone like me not to defend against an accusation like that.

EDIT: Sorry to everyone else. I'll stop harping on this now. See you in next years NCAAs... if you get far enough to face us again.:p

  2. The GPL folks might be a bit thin-skinned. I believe that they will sometimes lock out new members during rivalry weeks to keep folks from trolling. Of course, that also locks out folks looking to simply engage in spirited, and even smart-assed discussion as well. They are prone to lock threads, sometimes with justification. In short, if you ain't hard on the Kool-Aid, there might be a tendency to give a guy the boot. More so than here anyway. I have no problem with Jupiter. Even threw him a donation on his plea for contributions to keep his site afloat. He doesn't appear to get nearly the traffic that is found here.

I am not aware of GPL ever actually changing the content of a post though. So be it. Time for me, and perhaps alot of us, to go out and discover that there is a lot more to life than GPL and siouxsports.com. Especially in the off season, eh? Wilbur perhaps has it right. These boards can be a sink hole if we let them.

Maybe, but what will I do at work without these places? Actually work? Perish the thought.

EDIT: The lockout of new users is done only during the NCAA tourney, not during rivalry weeks. This is a standard practice that has been in place for years and widely publicized on the site before it happens.

  3. What was it in regards to? What's your call-sign over there? Sure doesn't sound like Jupiter...

If that did actually happen, the only thing I could possibly think of is if it was way over the offensive line. Then it might be deleted. I very seriously doubt it was changed. I'd be interested in this as well. Pretty serious charge being made against a message board admin. They lock threads to cool things off, they don't change posts.

Legit points they did not like.

Details? There are plenty of people who would defend any user if this actually happened. Still not sure I believe you.

  4. You didn't pick up on the sarcasm, Tiggsy. Here's a recap:

    Pre-game: Blow-out city...Union's slow...let's roll these clowns...

    Post-game: Union's better...over-achieved all season long...still a great accomplishment...

Fair enough. Didn't pick up on that.

We're not alone in rationalizing after a loss. Look at how many posters think UND would have beaten or at least played better then we did. Easy to do that when there's no way to really know.

    :)

  5. Technically correct.

That was my whole original point, so of course it was correct.

    From GPL...pre-game...

Sounds like fans who were just happy to bring home second place...

Wow, where have I ever said we were happy about it? Where are you guys getting this? But better to at least have a shot at the title than not at all, and better to bring home some hardware (even if it's not the big one) than none. Why is this so difficult to understand?

Yep...Penn State and Miami are comparable teams :silly:

    Ask Michigan fans about that.

  6. Come on. Do you think that the Gophers goal this year was just to win a conference championship? Sure you can be proud of winning a watered down 6 team conference. But don't fall back on it and brag about it when fail to win the Natty. Sioux fans have been there. The first game of the 2011-2012 season, they raises the WCHA Championship banner at the Ralph just 6 months after failing to win the NAtional Championship we all though we were going to win. Sure we were proud of the accomplishment, but it was bitter sweet seeing that one go up instead of a NAtty banner.

Again, not falling back on it at all that. Simply pointing it out because the whole banner thing was brought up and it is still an impressive accomplishment. You said that it's okay to be proud of it too, so which is it? We've been there before too.

But I will say it is more to fall back on then UND has this year.

    ...

    ......0.6.... :):)

    That's a riot.

Clever. I'll give you that one. :) Even though it was downgraded to a "disturbance" according to the media.

  7. I think he was referring to our regular season Big Ten Championship. You know, the third straight year we've won our league.

Exactly. We're no SCSU. Conference titles don't mean anything anymore? I thought that was typically what UND did... win the regular season title and flame out in the playoffs.

Again, you're welcome for not allowing UND to play in the championship and potentially lose.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! OH MY GOD!!!!! Yeah...I am sure that is what the team was saying before Saturdays game. "Well...at least we get to rase a banner. This game doesn't really matter since we have already overachieved so much this year!! HAHAHAHA Oh man. I can't stop laughing at this rediculous statement!!!!

I was simply responding to the statement MafiaMan made about it being our goal to raise banners. Which we did. I actually said that obviously we wanted to raise a bigger one, but if that was being as a rip on us, it was quite misplaced. I guess everyone seemed to forget about our regular season title.

  8. Well that's weird...I just checked out the first sentence of the opening paragraph of GPL's site and I saw this:

    http://gopherpucklive.com/

Somebody should change that to read: "...except in 2013-2014 because we lost Haula, Bjugstad, Schmidt, Budish, and Alt to EARLY departures plus Seth Helguson as a senior and no one expected this years Gopher team to be as good as they were."

We still raised a banner. Mission accomplished.

EDIT: sort of... obviously we wanted to raise a bigger banner but if that is the criteria, we did do it.

No we shouldn't, because you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Our team didn't get a chance to take their shot at Union and that is something the team (especially the seniors) will be carrying around with them for some time.

Why even take that chance of the seniors not pulling out the big game? Union was riding a huge streak and knocking off top opponents. Too much of a risk for your team to handle a loss. You're welcome for not having to deal with it.

  9. Nobody remembers second place (except for the team that finishes second place). And losing a championship game is one of the most painful experiences in sports (just ask the Buffalo Bills of the 1990's). I have heard NHL players say it is better to miss the playoffs than get to the Stanley Cup Finals and lose. But again, your program hangs runner-up banners, so I guess it's different for you guys.

I guess we did you a favor then, so you didn't have to face a red hot Union team and risk losing in an even more high profile game. If that's your story you should be thanking us, not ripping us.

  10. And the Gerbils got dominated by Union in the NCAA title game 48 hours later. Gerbil fans will just have to get used to it. :glare::angry:

Second place in Women's Hockey. Second place in Men's Hockey. The University of Minnesota.....Runner-Up U!!! :p Maybe you can have a parade in Downtown Minneapolis with both Runner-Up Trophies at the front and the players for both teams following with a banner that says "We're #2, where are the Whioux?". Then Don Lucia-pet can give a speech saying the NCAA semifinal win over UND was "just another win for us and didn't have any meaning beyond that" and whatever other garbage he has come up with since we changed conferences a year ago. Two can play this game.

    Have a nice day!!! :D

Only thing I took from that post is 2nd place > um.. what place were you again?

Any tips for us how to handle losing in big games, since you guys have so much experience in doing so?

    :p

  11. The University of Minnesota has 21 Minnesotans on their current roster. The other four are from Colorado (Tom Serratore), Florida (Gabe Guertler), Missouri (Sam Warning), and Wisconsin (captain Nate Condon).

The University of North Dakota has 3 North Dakotans on their current roster. Luke Johnson and Paul LaDue are from Grand Forks, and Keaton Thompson is from Devils Lake.

UND has only four Minnesotans, the lowest total in recent memory. Two are Twin Cities kids: Conner Gaarder (Edina) and Nick Mattson (Chanhassen). Zane Gothberg hails from Thief River Falls, and Gage Ausmus is from right across the river in East Grand Forks.

    Minnesota population (2013 estimate): 5,420,000

North Dakota population (2013 estimate): 723,000

    Discuss. :)

    Dave

As an engineer I do appreciate Siouxman's calculations, but I'm going to go with a more qualitative, general approach.

Not too many people live in ND (relatively speaking). Especially those who want to play D1 hockey.

  12. Well, I can see I stirred up a few things, so I'll respond to a few of my favorites.

Also, Tiggsy, do you think that the fact that No. 1 lost to No. 16 had anything to do with it? Maybe that it was in OT? C'mon, dude. Get over your Minnesota "holier than thou" bullsnot.

Maybe that did have something to do with it but my point still stands. You guys brought it up that it was the loudest game played there, and that's sad to me if enough of you think that's true. I hope it's not. I remember one year WI was playing a regional at Mariucci and heavily favored but ended up losing. I enjoyed that game and there were plenty of MN fans around cheering against WI. But I would never call it the loudest game played. Plenty of big games involving the Gophers were much louder.

In your expert opinion on having pride for your own team first, where does trolling a rival message board rank?

One more thing...the REA was quite loud for two other games not involving the Sioux that I can recall - WJC Christmas Day USA/Russia and the gold medal game full of crazy Canadians.

I'll give you the WJC games as pretty good exceptions. Country does trump school in almost every situation.

I'm not sure how me being here does anything but show pride in my team. I'm defending my team and making points about them. Besides I'm sure enough of you out there are enjoying taking shots at me because I'm here. See the next quote as an example.

    .

You said as much in you previous post. So then you are claiming to be grammatically challenged? It must require a wealth of school pride to troll this website. Or more likely, another gopher troll too stupid to actually have graduated from the University of Minnesota. Go back home and stroke your National American University diploma.

There's not much of a point responding to this but I still will just for fun. And I will refrain from resorting to a cheap personal shot like that. Rip my team all you want, fine. No need to take it to that level. How is my posting here before a big game not showing my Gopher pride? Why does it matter where I graduated from? I'm a fan and that is all that matters And just for the record, even though me saying this is completely pointless in this conversation...

  13. you are saying your cheering for FSU shows YOUR hate trumps YOUR pride. Good for you.

so my rooting for FSU is the same as the loudest REA has ever been was in a game NOT being played by UND? Not even close. you can cheer against the gophers all you want but why is the loudest game at REA not a UND game? I have pride in my team first. Rooting against other teams is ALWAYS second and have never been that invested in a game not including the Gophers. So good for you in not having a point.

  14. I love how Gopher fans always get riled up over that game and how the Sioux fans were all cheering for Holy Cross. Had that game been in Minneapolis and HC pulled off the upset over UND, they would have blown the roof off of Mariucci Arena.

I don't think we mind. I mean I was cheering for FSU last week. To me, this shows that pride in your own team is trumped by hate for us. That doesn't seem right, but hey... to each their own I guess. It's more important to UND fans that we lose than if you win.

I love it. I've played troll so much this week :) but honestly, post a blog of MY favorite moments shouldn't really be considered trolling, IMO.

Yeah, I think you're good calling out a link on your own team's board with your opinion. Post it on USCHO? Then maybe it's trolling, but still completely okay to do. :)

  15. i disagree this is one of the most talented teams weve had in a while top to bottom were strong from the net out, the rodents are already looking past the sioux saying they got the easier draw (nanny). Gophers have a solid team too but the difference is we have way more heart, the rodents expect to win just by showing up and were gonna put a 2 spot on them before they know what hit them, wilcox is inferior to goth in my opinion.

Heart won't get you much. Look at Robert Morris. They had plenty of heart but didn't make it. I am curious as to what makes Wilcox , the Hobey finalist (who we all know won't likely win but he's still in the final 10), inferior in your opinion. If it was any other team than UND maybe you'd have an argument about expecting to win by showing up. That's the theory about what happened in the B1G. But obviously it didn't happen at the regionals and this is the frozen 4. Everyone should know nothing at this point is easy.
