  1. It boggles my mind how the "interim" president and a couple of cronies got to make the final selection. For a process that was so transparent and engaging for many of us stakeholders, the way that they wrapped it up and made the final selection was an insult and resulted in a poor logo choice.

Lets face it, numerous artists had better renditions online, and I'm not even clinging to the Sioux logo.

The logo just stinks, and just as with the geometric head, it will be gone sooner than later.

  2. I'm looking for some clarification.  For me personally, I like to spend Friday and Saturday nights with the family, which means I don't get around to the games until later in the night, when the kid is down and the wife is playing on her ipad.  That being said, I don't start the Sioux games until later, maybe 9, 10 pm.

So with this streaming package, if I start the game up at at 9, will I be able to start right from the beginning of the broadcast?  Or will it jump to where the stream is currently.  A big plus to Directv was that I could DVR the Sioux games on Fox College Sports, and come start it whenever I wanted.  I'm fine running an HDMI cable into the tv from the laptop, but if I can't truly watch the games "on-demand" even while they are in progress, then I don't want the webcast, and will just hope that Fox College Sports is available on DirecTV.

Can anybody help clarify this for me?

  3. After this year, I'm ready to go back to the drawing board and have four lines of about equal strength and just roll them. Obviously whatever line Rocco is on will be the top unit, but I'm hopeful that the line combos are pretty well established come January.

Another thing I'd like to see is keeping lines intact for power plays. That way lines aren't messed up for three shifts after we don't score on the powerplay. I think a big reason there was so little success on the powerplay was the fact that you had guys playing with different guys, then going back and playing with different guys even strength.

This of course goes back to our horrible head coach......If they would just accept my resume, I'd be a great addition to the staff. I mean you'd have four great minds with an abundance of nhl, ahl, and college hockey coaching experience. Well, I played intramurals at UND, so that counts as college hockey experience in my book.

Don't you have ND High School Hockey on your resume? :)

  4. I don't know about you guys, but I got the slingbox setup at my mothers place in Grand Forks, so I now get all the games via slingbox to my pc, connected to my tv. The quality probably won't be true-high definition, probably akin to standard definition, but it beats the crappy webcast. Now if I can find a way to record on my pc I will be able to dvr the games as well...

Stinks to have to shell out the $180 for a slingbox, but I don't have to pay the (noticeably increased from $60) webcast fee of $80.

  5. Was this senior squad freshmen when we last lost to Yale in the NCAA's?

Hak is a great coach, I hate to see this thread already, even though we're all disappointed in the loss. The only downside to me is that the loss yesterday really ruined my ability to give my gopher in-laws a hard time (for the upcoming year).

I wonder how we'll be next season, losing so any seniors...

  6. So from what I'm reading Hammer will be doing the play by play, correct?

Why not bring Pat back for Color Commentary??? He seems to be better at that than play-by-play anyways, talking about all the old stories, and knowing random UND facts/connections...

    Just a thought! :whistling:

  7. I was instantly against the 'Rough Riders' moniker for fear of stealing it from Red River HS. However, it has slightly grown on me, but why not shorten it to just the 'Riders' (Here's your Riders scoooooooring!). It seems to me that other fanbases will have too much fun with the 'rough' descriptor and at the cost of historical reference (which could be implied - for any knowledgable fan), I would not have a problem dropping it. It seems much more logical than Calvary...err I mean Cavalry :whistling:

I'm not as big on the reapers personally, I instantly think of death, and I would think that the University would avoid references to anything controversial like our current drone program. Sorry Sicatoka.

I would be fine with the North Stars or Fighting Saints, though they might be stretches. Anyone else think that using the 'Norse' monikor would be termed a 'Vikings' ripoff (one could argue the same for the North Stars)...the last thing I want in a nickname is ammunition for my fun-hating Gopher in-laws.... :D

  8. Not that it matters, but I really hope we do not end up with an animal, conceptual (wild, heat, thunder, force from the north), or otherwise lame logo/mascot.

Also, personally I like the 'Stars' the best of anything I've heard thus far, the question is, does the NHL own rights to the name, or just the image that the North Stars used to use?

Just curious to know if anyone has any insight on this...Our colors match this VERY well...

  9. Does anyone know how long this will sideline him for? Is this a 2-month or 4-month recovery?

At this point it's 4 months til we start the season (approximately), so hopefully he won't be out at the start of the season.

  10. Just a passing observation, but is Parise on pace to become the best US-Born "Runner-Up"...

    2nd in the NCAA's in 2005,

2nd in the Olympics in 2010,

2nd in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2012??

(Not sure on his High-School hockey track record while at Shattucks, maybe someone can fill me in).

I am obviously a huge fan, and I think we all enjoyed watching him play while he was here, and hopefully one day he breaks this current streak...I wonder if anyone else has come so close so many times...

  11. I apologize if this has been asked/answered, I didn't see a thread in doing a quick (really quick!) search, but has anyone found a good app (Android in my case) for either the Android or Apple mobile operating systems that will report college hockey scores?

I've been through ESPN's, Yahoo's, Fox's, and Scoremobile, and none have college hockey in them, sadly.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  12. I've got my backup plan already locked in. Worst-case scenario if I lose the ability to watch on DirecTV, I will buy a slingbox, set it up at my mothers house (in GF, she gets midcon) and watch it that way...not sure if I can stream it right into my tv through a pc though....

Anyone else want in on my slingbox-feed??? :)

  13. That got me thinking....

Anyone remember what the 50's esque restaurant that Shakey's became was called? I can't remember for the life of me. I think that Dagwoods (or whatever its called now) - the second one, after they moved from their first location on Columbia Road, to their second location out by the university was one of those 50's ish restaurants too...

  14. The lawsuit may not be enough to encourage most, but I'm still hanging on to the notion that we can find a way to keep the logo/nickname. I'm stuck with this bad feeling about it all, given that Standing Rock never got a chance to vote, just seems wrong. I will have to keep the hope until I hear of a new nickname that is as unique and descriptive of our community and institution....and I just haven't heard anything thrown out yet.

On a side note, I know that at the time the agreement was signed, our attorney general thought that both tribes would approve it, but was it short-sighted on his part to not look at other institutions' agreements and push for only one tribe's approval? I'm not trying to throw him under the bus, but am trying to understand why our agreement was structured differently than other institutions. Has there ever been any discussion on this point, or clarificatino from the AG?

  15. Both BG and Tech have at least one Title, and NC$$ tourney wins. Then again, "participation" seems to be SCCC's forte, as evidenced by all of the banners in the rafters. I haven't been to the NCC for years, do they still hang banners from local businesses to cover the concrete?

As a practical matter, given former-President Saigo's campaign against the Sioux name/logo, if UND never played them again in any sport it would be too soon. I see no reason to drag that albatross into a new conference of any stripe.

I live in the cities and try to make it to most series we play at SCSU, Mankato and sometimes UM. I think SCSU just recently (in the last few years) added backs to their bleacher seats....but the crown jewel of the NCC is the video board. I don't know what the deal is, but the camera appeared to only move in one direction (up, down, left, right) at a time, so it was incredibly funny watching them move it around...or at least it was two years ago....we thought it was broken or something as it tried to follow a student around the 'dog pound'...

Hopefully we hear some news soon, we're getting pretty bored on these forums

  16. I'm a frequent reader of the forums, for several years now, and don't take the time to post very often, but I have to say I'm surprised that no one has started a similar topic to this yet, and moreso that the herald has not run an article on it.

The last decade has truly been enjoyable to have been a part of (as a fan), and has resulted in many steps forward for our beloved program, though one could coin it as the 'decade of missed opportunities.' We've seen incredibly talented individuals and teams come through, and our program has become a perennial powerhouse, while dealing with adversity stemming from our 'Hostile and Abusive' nickname, to league realignment. One could go on and elaborate on these things in much greater detail...

I would like to see a write-up (or did I perhaps miss one?) on this, or maybe I'm jumping the gun on the next 'Fight on Sioux' type of book.

If that's the case, and I'm in fact jumping the gun, then I hope we get #'s 8 - 12 in decade #2.
