  1. So what are the trickle-down impacts of this going to be?

No idea. I was under the impression that BYU and possibly SDSUaztecs were still in play for football. Maybe this keeps the basketball schools and football schools together for a couple years. I can't remember but isn't the Big East basketball or football contract up again in a year or two? If so I imagine the basketball only schools, and Notre Dame, give the Big East a middle finger and split off. It's not like the schools the Big East are adding does anything positive to the current Big East members that don't play football. The conference has plenty of quality like minded non football schools. They could pick up and form a solid conference. The 8 non FBS schools, including Notre Dame, would still be a NCAA tourney multi bid conference. If they wanted those schools could get the Indy market (Butler), Omaha market (Creighton), St Louis market (St. Louis), Philly market (Temple) and part of Cincy market (Xavier) and form a real solid basketball conference of like minded schools.

  2. Yes, our board is low in numbers and traffic but it is slowly building. I believe the reason for the registration requirement is as follows. Previously, anyone could read the board AND POST without registration. Because of that we had plenty of drive by trolls. The only way to stop this was to close the board and require registration. The board software didn't allow register to post and non register to browse.

  3. but Northern Kentucky does not have football

I realize that. I was referring to EIU. EIU would help appease the eastern based football schools and create a tight group in that area. I also like EIU over NKU because they are already D1 and the 5 year window for transition is complete for conference autobid qualification for the Summit. I understand the conference can't just pick and chose but this discussion is based on what I would prefer, right or wrong.

  4. I thought the MVFC was "full"? There was a last minute push by Douple to get the MVFC just to add USD so he could keep them in the Summit, how is he going to convince the MVFC to expand another time so he can get another member into the Summit?

I think the MVFC is full for western based teams. SIU, YSU and I believe ISU(b) agreed to allow USD in if they could limit their travel west to one game a year. If an eastern based team came into play then I assume, not a guarantee, that those schools would vote for an invite.

  5. http://en.wikipedia....lley_Conference

I'm looking at the map on the link above and am trying to figure out why EIU would leave the OVC for the Summit/Missouri Valley FC.

The conference by adding Belmont (Nashville) is moving south. UNK would be a move east.

Football would make perfect sense for them. They would have 4 teams in MVFC closer than their closest team in OVC. Indy State would be a quick 50 miles away. In other sports it is a little more spread out but would have a decent footprint with IUPUI, IPFW, Western Illinois and UMKC. It wouldn't be as tight as the OVC but it wouldn't be completly outlandish.

  6. so where do you think they are expecting the D-I invitation to come from?

I think the OVC and Summit will probably both give an invite. The Horizon might but I think they sit tight for now. There are 100's of scenarios if there is a private/public school shakeup in Big East which dominoes to A-10, MVC and Horizon. What those conferences do, if there is a shakeup, will obviously effect conferences like the Summit. Personally, I would like NKU to go OVC if that means EIU leaves and comes to Summit/MVFC. Who knows.

  7. In NKU's D-I feasibility study, they identify the Horizon League as the most desirable, followed by Ohio Valley, Summit & Atlantic Sun. Since the study was competed, Centenary, Southern Utah & Oral Roberts have announced they are leaving the Summit & South Dakota & Nebraska Omaha have joined.

The Horizon has 10 members & Northern Kentucky would be #11. Would the Horizon add an 11th member without a 12th? While its not likely that Detroit U will allow Oakland admission into the Horizon, nor would Butler want to add IUPUI, would they add IPFW? What happens to the Summit if they lose another team?

Best scenario for the Summit is for the Horizon to turn down NKU so the Norse would turn to either the Ohio Valley and become their twelfth school (and have it stop there) or the Summit itself and move it's center a little eastward.

If NKU joins the OVC then they would be the 13th school. Belmont joins next year. The OVC is also in talks with UNA. I think EIU rethinks their overall position in the OVC and possibly bolts to anchor the eastern Summit and Eastern MVFC.

  8. And still only 3500 seats for basketball.

That facility is "two sheets or one sheet and one 3500 basketball arena".

UND has "two sheets and a 3500 basketball arena".

I get your point and agree but the Ralston Arena sits more than 3500 for basketball. It sits 3500 for hockey and around 4000 for basketball

  9. Don't be so lazy. Google it....................... ;)

    Exactly. As I thought.

In response to Longhorn Network v. rest of Big 12 teams TBD money. The TBD money is many many many multiples of Big Sky. Anyway, best of luck in Big Sky. Wish our schools could have continued some games but it looks like it may not happen after the last game in GF this year. Always enjoyed my time in GF and will miss the rivalry. Solid university, teams and fans.

  10. My hometown high scool on the ND/MT boarder has doubled it's enrollment in under 4 years.

And the town's population has almost tripled. And this is in a community that is a good 50 minute drive to where the real oil boom is going on. .

Anecdotal evidence is great however I am not asking for that. Show me some type of projections that back up Stars statement. I don't doubt schools and towns are increasing in population but please just provide me with something to review.

  11. Very well stated. I don't think many people are able to grasp just how much the balance of power is going to shift from east to west in ND over the next several years.

Star. Please provide a link to those outlandish numbers you posted. Your state is booming and I agree that is wonderful but I have read actual published studies and been on the ground in western Nodak and your numbers are not even close to reality.

  12. These arguments are fine but the kicker is we will make it work quite well and a couple years down the road you will be scratching your head going "gee, maybe we should have taken a chance when we had it."

Time will tell on this of course but I would bet big money on it. Enjoy your bus league; as an alumnus out west I and MANY others are loving this move.

I'm sure you are happy. I would be as well if I lived in the mountain/pacific time zone. However, I am sure the other 95% of my alumni would be pretty pissed. Im sure it will pretty cool to be with 50 other UND locals at the UNC game.

Someday we might all meet up again. Whether we are both in the Big Sky or MVFC/Summit. I don't think the door is closed on either scenario nor the changing landscape of conferences.

  13. And Boise State, a school in a city near the Oregon border, may be joining the Big East.

West Virginia, a school in the Pittsburgh market, may be joining the Big 12.

The maps do show that ND is a bordering state to Montana, which has members in the Big Sky.

    So your point is?

    1. Boise State is Big East in Football only. 4 or 5 trips at most. Big East TV money, bowl money and BCS bid.

    2. WVU in Big 12 all sports. Big 12 TV money is huge, bowl money and BCS bid.

    3. UND in all Big Sky sports. Big Sky TV money? ??? good one.

With that said, I agree that UND did what is best for their university. There wasn't a MVFC invite. You can't leave football on an island. However, to spin it by using FBS or even worse BCS schools as an example that it will work is pure folly. I wish you the best in the Big Sky. You now give me a reason to care about the conference. I will cheer for you when you enter the league next year.
