I could attach 100 suppressed articles like this. I can believe the NCAA wants to control this down to when you can take a dump, but this isn't a simple issue. I pray the players don't subject themselves to the jab cause most of them have had C-19 already anyway. It's a virus and these players are very low risk. The jab is sketchy AF, no long term data, variants coming every election cycle, etc. The long term health of these players is more important than a season of FB.
But, you didn't attach an article or a link. You attached a sensationalized headline from...... where? A cruise ship tested the crew and passengers and like everyone knows, you can still get COVID if vaccinated. Many times people won't feel sick at all or have just minor symptoms. The cruise company said a "small number of people tested positive". But, that doesn't sound as scary as "COVID Outbreak". No one is hospitalized, no one has died. A few tested positive and are fine. Because they are fully vaccinated. I knew 3 people close to me in the area who were calling COVID a hoax last summer and fall. All said they'd never take a shot. I've have since streamed and\or attended the funerals for all 3 of them including my brother in law who we begged to get the shot. Long term health is very important, so is taking a small, safe step to avoid short term death. Just my 2 cents.

No, not really. They have had it up for sale for at least 2 years. It's not simply a closing. They sold it. The brothers were looking at retiring and none of the kids in the next generation wanted to take over the type of life that owning a 7-day-a-week bar is. From what I've learned, a new owner is going to greatly enlarge the off sale area and eventually open a considerably smaller pub-eatery side. The brothers are staying on to help in the process over the next months.

I'm pleading with you to come down from the mountaintop and give all of UND a break. Take on FB coaching while straightening out these administrators who sadly don't have any idea compared to you. Why are you holding back from UND when you obviously know so, so much more than any of those folks? It's selfish on your part when you know so much more than anyone. I'm sure you could have those "doners" eating out of your hands in short order. whatever a doner is. You, and you alone could save UND and UND athletics. That's the real difference.

Seriously though, the scheduling has to improve. Northland Community College has no business being on our schedule. And I would say that even if we were still D-II.
But of course, it's all about keeping more of the gate. So we just keep doing what we do. Because it's "all about the relationships" and "all about teaching life lessons".
If and when we ever play "Northland Community College" it will be a problem. I don't believe we ever have played a 2 year school from TRF. However, we have played Northland College out of Wisconsin a few times the past few years. But, don''t let facts get in the way

Here is how I see it. UND had a Women’s Ice Hockey program. UND recruited players and commitments were made, both ways. For a variety of reasons, the WIH program was dropped. It wasn’t the players fault. It wasn’t Schlossman’s fault.
The WIH players were dedicated and passionate athletes in their time at UND. No different than a football, basketball or MIH player on a UND roster. Having the program cut in the way they did, was of course a rough experience for these UND athletes. It left these college athletes in a state of limbo. Most eventually caught on with other WIH college programs. Some, including alumni, were outspoken about the elimination of the program. I would expect that passion from athletes. Some of that was reported on. I would also expect that.A former player who caught on with another program and wins a national title as the MVP is news, whether you like it or not. Mentioning the UND WIH program that existed only 2 years ago is also a fact. Demonizing the GF Herald writer for mentioning these things is beyond childishly silly in my opinion. He is reporting facts. You can pretend UND never had a Women’s Ice Hockey program, but I prefer to remember those young ladies who proudly and passionately represented UND Athletics in their time here. They proudly wore the name and colors of the University of North Dakota. Mentioning that is fact. Getting all bent out of shape for the GF Herald sports writer writing about the post-UND careers of gals who wore UND Green is just sad. Come on Sioux-Hawk fans, you should be better than this.

Some amazing football minds on here. Why don't some of you include a little bio on your college football playing career and your college coaching career while you're at it? Why are you simply posting on a message board when its obvious to everyone you "get" things our coaches don't? You obviously understand personnel and scheme so much better than our coaches do. Get off your computer\phone and go down and talk to Bubba and get things straightened out. Please offer your expertise, you guys can be the difference in turning us in a dynasty.!!! We need you.

practices should be scheduled, film should be watched, recruits should be assessed, coaches should meet with recruits and their families, coaches should build relationships with the kids. Wonder if the coaches ever thought of these things?

This year we lost to S. Utah by 26, lost to UC Davis by 24, beat UNC by 10 and lost to South Dakota by 38

Which of those staffs only coached for 2 years while UND was playoff eligible? One coach's team in their 4th year, won the conference, finished 8-3 and the final poll had us ranked #23, unfortunately while still in the era of 20 FCS playoff teams. (FCS went from 20 to 24 teams in 2013) The other staff won the conference and made the playoffs in their 3rd year. More similarities than differences. One big difference is the total salary for current football staff is more than twice it was during the transition. We transitioned with some staffs that had an average age almost equal to the team's average age.
Frankly, I'm more concerned about our recruiting, depth, coaching philosophy and game management now, than I was with the previous staff. I never thought I"d think that a few years ago.

To anyone that has played the game, you understand certain things. Play calling and the defense are playing a cat & mouse game on each play. Both sides know the other sides tendencies, strengths and weaknesses. Any play - that any OC calls at any level of football - is designed to work if executed correctly by most of the 11 men. Sometimes one player missing a block, or making a mental mistake, and of course, one or more of the 11 being physically outmatched on any play can cause it to fail. We've seen plays where keys blocks are made and the play goes for a great gain. Our O-line was able to do that much of the 2015 season. The opposite is also true. We see a play for a loss and say it was a terrible call. We see a big gainer and say that was a great call. Really, most plays comes down to which 11 guys out-execute and over-match the other 11 guys.
I think our O line was middle or lower of the pack FCS line this year and that lead to intermittent success running the ball. But, I think they stuck with the run game as much as they did to shorten the game, wear down the opposing defense and hope for Brady and John to bust big runs. As our Defense got more beat up, they stuck with this philosophy more and more. Yes, the offense could have done more all year, but our lack of success in '17 had more to due with our diminished D that our O. Nor was it due to a lack of creativity or feel for the game, that so many of us in the stands obviously have boatloads of

Individually, we can expect, or wish or demand that our football team wins the Natty every year. It’s simple, easy and free to have wishes, demands and expectations. But, that doesn’t affect the reality in any way. Unless, you’re one of those guys cutting a big check to UND every year. It is what it is. None of our expectations can affect the reality.
I’ve never been a real big Bubba fan, but one thing he got across to UND when hired was the need to pay a living wage to his staff. I’ve been told the amount of dollars for Bubba and staff went up by a factor of close to 2.5 times over the last Mussman staff. He would only take the job if money was freed up to pay for some experience on the staff. UND went extremely cheap in the initial FCS years. Bubba pushed for being able to hire –and pay- a more veteran staff. Half of the staff in the Mussman years were kids. How many first year coordinators did he have in his run? Bubba pushed for being able to hire –and pay- a more veteran staff. Young guys on those Mussman staffs kept looking for better coaching jobs based largely on what UND was paying.
So here we are. Bubba’s and his staff have been relatively stable during his run. The staff reflects his personality and coaching philosophy. I don’t think Bubba personally does anything to shake up his staff after the season. Maybe the AD will want to, or maybe someone will leave on their own, but I don’t think Bubba will initiate it. He’s a good rah-rah guy and I personally like him. But, I think he’s an average recruiter\evaluator and someone who doesn't like to make in-game adjustments. He’s a 1990’s style DII coach applying his style in an FCS world.
I don’t know what the answer is. I’m sure Bubba is safe and with Faison exiting, and I don’t expect any changes for next year. I think Mussman got better FCS talent than Bubba in most of his classes, but the Mussman staff as a whole was learning how to operate in their new roles. First time head coach, first time coordinators, etc. They got outcoached in many games in the Mussman years. (and for you Muss haters out there, no I'm not Mrs. Mussman)
This year, we are getting outplayed physically and schematically. And, Bubba’s coaching style is partially responsible for letting it happen. All I know is I will be there Saturday, like I have been for 50 seasons. And, hope I am back for next year. I made it to Florence, AL twice, I hope to get to the UND Natty game in Frisco before I tip over.

I guess I disagree with your premise. I don’t think the fact that UND men won 22 games so far this season is a result of Jones suddenly becoming a better coach, motivator, recruiter, etc. There are so many things that go into each team and each season, that to break it down to so simple an idea is flawed. Sure, coaches continually learn and evolve, but they aren’t dumb coaches one year and brilliant coaches the next. Bill Belichick is a great coach even in bad years for his team, there are just dozens of circumstances that go into making it a great year or a bad year.
If you’ve never played, coached or recruited at the college athletics level you can’t even imagine the things that go into a team’s success. Of course, getting good players to come to UND is critical. But, these young college student athletes are each unique. Personality, ability, classroom aptitude, effort, desire, homesickness, parents, girlfriends, maturity, etc., all play a part, and they are different for each kid. Chemistry among a group of kids is hard to define. Coaching staff, of course, is another critical element. It’s clear this group of players and coaches has some real chemistry.
I believe Jones has tried to assemble the best combination of athletes and good young men, each and every recruiting class. Being a school known for hockey, in one of coldest, remote locations puts us at a small disadvantage in a lot of recruiting battles. We do well once a kid visits and sees what UND has to offer, but we do miss out on kids who decline to even consider UND. I’ve talked to former UND athletes who have said they visited UND knowing they would never accept an offer here, but after visiting and meeting the staff and seeing the facilities, plus seeing the quality of the education UND offered, they jumped at the chance to come here. And they remain proud they did decades later.
I think this team is a reflection of that. I love watching Avants. His intensity and effort on the court remind me of a lot of the intense Sioux BB players of the past, Clausen, S Brekke, etc. The fact that Jones got him to come here from OK was great. But, if Connor was 2 or 3 inches taller, with his ability, he would be playing at a major university, we wouldn’t have been able to land him. Shanks had limited options when he transferred and as a result we were able to get him. Bernstine had a coaching connection and we were able to bring him in. I think Huff was another example from year’s past, if he would have been a couple inches taller and 25 pounds heavier, I think he would have been a star at a major basketball school. Over the years, we’ve had some great kids who were a good fit for UND basketball.
This team is an amazing collection of guys that maybe were overlooked a little by other schools. Some unique stories. But, they bought into Jones’ style and in talking to several of them over the last couple years, they love the staff and couldn’t be prouder to be representing UND.
One thing this season might do is make it easier to compete for some of those good young men, who have many D1 options for their playing career, to now consider UND as one of the programs they want to compete at. This season can really help in the recruiting process going forward.
Just my thoughts as one of those “gray haired guys” who has followed Sioux basketball for over 50 years. Can’t wait to watch the UND – Arizona game! Win or lose, I think it will be a great night for UND basketball going forward.

I see this as one entertainment figure stating a heartfelt opinion about another entertainment figure - movie star to reality TV star, one a millionaire, one a billionaire. A basic opinion that it's not decent to mock a person with a disability simply because he doesn't agree with you. She should be entitled to give her opinion as the reality TV star was entitled to give his opinion. One statement was childishly bullying and just sad. (If you're own child did that to a handicapped kid, would you be OK with that?) The other was saying Americans and even possibly people who want to be leaders, maybe should better than that. For me, it says more out your own character if you feel the need to attack the person for stating their opinion and sticking up for someone less fortunate. Whether they are poor, middle class or rich.....right is right. But, that's just me.

In fairness, Ray, you didn't just respond about the hockey aspect of his post, you immediately went personal by trying to discredit him by saying "DaveK went all DaveK on us again". A bigger question is why you feel the need to immediately disparage him. He just wrote his opinion as a fan. They don't match yours? You could be a big boy and state your opinions on the matter, or you could go personal. Or you could have just ignored it. Same for MafiaMan telling him he must be out of his damn mind for having an opinion that doesn't match his. They are his opinions. But, no you had to go personal first because it's DaveK.
Some of you guys do come off as whining, in my humble opinion. And childish. (and no, I don't know DaveK, never met him)

Not trying to be snotty to all of us 4th line Bantam B’s out there who know an awful lot about hockey, but, for me, I was extremely proud of our hockey team’s effort and focus in Boston. If only Coach Hakstol would have thought of telling our guys to not hit those crossbars. I don’t know what he was thinking there. He has to learn to “adjust” like many of us 4th liners realize and mix it up a little and hit some posts instead.
Seriously, part of what is going on is the era we are in. As a parallel, it reminds me of the glory years of GF high school hockey where it was almost a gimme that Central and later Central or Red River would win the state title. Little by little, the state caught up.. It wasn’t that GF high school hockey started being unable to “win the big one” routinely, it was more of a case of the rest of the state catching up. I think that is part of it what has happened in college hockey. College hockey has improved and the depth and quality of teams have expanded from the Gino days and probably even the Deano days at UND. The era we are in and the format of college hockey playoffs makes it impressive what UND hockey has accomplished in the last decade. Getting to the Frozen Four means you’ve first made the NCAA playoffs and then slugged your way through a tough regional field and earned 2 more tough. single elimination, post season wins. Then it’s one and done in the Frozen Four. The 4 teams that make it all have realistic hope of winning it all…even teams like Union, Yale, Providence. It becomes the dreaded one and done. All of us as Sioux fans expect us to win it when we make the FF, but that’s easy to expect as a fan sitting in my man cave and reminiscing about my glory days of almost getting some playing time on the 4th line back in the Bantam years. My “expectations” don’t cost me anything. It’s very easy to have them and “expect” more. The game is so easy in Hi-Def from my couch.
I talked to 2 players on this year’s team today. You could still hear the emotion in their voices and the love for the UND hockey program. They talked about giving their all in Boston and how tough it was for them to come up short. They talked about a bounce here, a call there and maybe the outcome could have been different. But, they were satisfied the loss wasn’t due to effort, or strategy, or game plan or an adjustment issues. I can’t print what they said about that. They said every game is a cat and mouse affair between coaching staffs and players. One of them said, “you don’t out coach someone in April. “ No one if fooling anybody at that point in the season. They both said it was an execution and performance issue between 2 really good squads. One of them even mentioned that they occasionally look at SSports hockey forum and are amazed at what he sees here at times. He said he loves the fans and are in awe of how they travel, but he said he had to stop reading the Hockey forum some time ago.
These players, and the players on 15 of the 16 teams in the NCAA’s realize how little the difference is between making the NCAAs and winning the Frozen Four. The players on all 16 teams are desperately giving their all. But, some folks on here “know” more and piously “expect” more. Easy to do and at no cost. BU fans expected a win and look what happened. The game happened. These Frozen Four games aren’t a Serge Gambucci type automatic win. College hockey has gotten too good. For me, in my old age, I will just continue to cherish how blessed we are to have a program like we do and leave it at that.

Wrong. 51 yr old former college athlete, who ran 17 full marathons in his life, and worked as an athletic trainer his whole adult life. He was in incredible shape and thought he was invincible. He died after 11 days in ICU in the cities.
