  1. There will be a Benefit/Silent Auction at the East Grand Forks Eagles Club from 12 noon to 4:00pm this Saturday. Please check out the link below.

I think it is absolutely awesome that former Sioux players step up and continue to support the UND community even though they have moved on to have success in their careers after UND. Kudos to Andrew Kozek and Ryan Duncan for their contribution to the benefit and silent auction for Ryker! It just goes to show the deep connection that UND alumni, whether they are athletes or not, have with not only the community but the state of North Dakota as well. I look forward to the benefit! I love the pic of the Duncan jersey!

The benefit will include a "loaded" baked potato bar with all the fixings, a silent auction, and Ryker Fan wrist bands for purchase. Ryker fan t-shirts can be ordered. Ryker French, is the 8 month old son of Tim & Michelle French of East Grand Forks. He was found unresponsive, without a pulse and not breathing at his daycare on Friday, October 8th, 2010. Ryker was airlifted to Sanford Health in Fargo and hospitalized for 3 1/2 weeks. He has made miraculous improvements, however has a long road of recovery ahead of him that includes daily nursing cares, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and much, much more. For more information about Ryker, please visit his caringbridge page at http://www.caringbri...rfrench/mystory Supplemental funds will be provided by Thrivent Financial for the benefit. Donations can also be made at any Bremer Bank, under the Ryker French Benefit Account.

A couple of items that will be up for auction is a Ryan Duncan Salzburg Red Bulls jersey which is autographed. There is also a Chicago Wolves jersey which is autographed by Andrew Kozek. Everyone in the area is more then welcome to attend. I will add a photo of the Kozek jersey once it becomes available.

    Sioux Ya Ya

  2. If the Lamoureux sisters can inspire and shame members of the men's hockey team with their work ethic and unending determination, I sure wouldn't mind them doing the same for the women's team. I am pretty sure that they may have been Captains if they had stayed at Minnesota, a team that is already at the top, so I have no problem with them picking up where they left off there. I realize it may offend some, but if Jonathan Toews had eligibility left and came back this year, I would have no problem with him taking over for Genoway as captain, and it has nothing to do with Genoway's abilities to lead.

It just seems morally wrong to take away the "C" from someone when they haven't done anything to warrant it being stripped. After all, she was an all WCHA Team selection. I also believe the person whose leadership abilities that should be in question is the coach. His players need to trust him. How can you expect the captain to be a great leader and loyal, when the coach cant be the same to his captain. I don't blame the twins...they are great players. But dont penalize your own captain. I'm sure the twins could have waited one year to get the "C" and let Lewis finish her senior year as captain. That is what coach should have done.

  3. I don't think it went down like that though...where the Lammy sisters just took her C.

From what I had heard, the Lammy sisters were both going to get A's, and Lewis was going to keep the C.

Not sure what happened in between, with Lewis leaving the team.

Who is taking over the C?

It started out as 4 players getting "C"s...the twins, Lewis, and the Goalie. As time went on, for whatever reason, coach decided to take away the "C" from Lewis. I'm not sure which twin is going to get it, but that is how it went down. That is why Lewis left the team.

  4. Mostly because of being asked to no longer wear the C, but there were also other things involving the team as well.

It's a very sad day for UND athletics when the "C" is taken away from your SENIOR defenseman just because there are 2 "superstars" joining the team. I have been excited for a long time to see the Lamoureux girls come play for the Sioux, but now it's hard to look forward to watching the team play when a coaching staff turns their back on one of their own players who have given them 3 years of hard work and dedication. I realize the twins have silver medals, and a National Championship on their resume, but they have yet to play even one shift for UND. I guess I'm from the old school where you have to EARN that "C". Shame on the coaching staff. I don't blame her for quitting. I couldn't play for someone like that, either.
