  1. Hey, did anyone catch in the GFherald article that the women's hockey team got their new jerseys in January? Didn't the athletic department and Coach I. say that they didn't have time to get a new team picture for the NCAA tourney? January to March, they couldn't find time to take a photo? I believe Kelly and Faison need to apologize to the women's hockey team! That is ridiculous!

  2. Spirit Lake Committee for Understanding and Respect are still fighting to keep our Fighting Sioux Name and Logo. Visit SavetheFightingSioux.com to help them. You can donate to the fund to help them fight. Please consider helping them! They are proud of the name, why aren't you????

  3. I have it on good authority that Inside Fighting Sioux Hockey TV show will not happen this year! The UND AD department said it was too expensive! I urge you all to voice your opinion to Director Faison that we do want Inside Fighting Sioux Hockey back on this year!

  4. From the Herald Story

I saw that, but where are the representatives of Standing Rock and Spirit Lake on that list? They should have gone back to the NCAA upon the vote of Spirit Lake and their resolution.

  5. It looks like quite the opposite. In my view it is a very smart move. If all the ND players agree to participate, this development should be welcomed by nickname supporters and not mocked.

I should note that vandalism is not "LOL." Though I would hope it goes without saying.

The question is, who is the State Higher Ed board going to invite to be part of this group going to the NCAA? Will they cherry pick who it is again? Are they going to make sure that the proponents are there from Spirit Lake and Standing Rock? I really don't think the proponents will get a fair representation on this delegation based on prior dealings of the State Higher Ed board. I would love the Board to prove me wrong!

  6. This is on MS Publisher. I can send it to you in .pub, pdf, jpg, gif, png. Unfortunately I will not be able to go to St Paul, but would be honored if anyone would want the file to do whatever you want as far as signs, t-shirts, anything!!

I sent you a pm to get a pdf. I will get a poster done and take it to the Frozen 4. thanks.

  7. Count in 4 more from Minneapolis. Daughters will be getting High 5's from players, just like all year. Coach Hakstol stated they are bringing the team luck - can't break that! Staying at the Best Western, 1 block away.

  8. If there is no effect in hockey, why then were we required to remove the logo from the rink at the Ralph when we hosted the 2006 West Regional Tournament? And would it really be fair to strip the football team of the ability to host a playoff game? Do you think the football team is inferior to the hockey team? Also, do you think the 2001 football team would have won the national championship if they couldn't have hosted 2/3 home games?

For the NCAA West Regional Hockey Tournament, it is a requirement by the NCAA no matter where the event is being held that all the advertising on the board be taken off plus the logos on the ice, replaced with the NCAA. So, even if he got rid of our Fighting Sioux name and logo, the generic ND would have to go too!

  9. I looked up the cute little phrase you put at the end of your message ("Such is life") and this outcome is completely and totally unacceptable for our hockey programs (men and women). The hockey-only crowd is a funny group: on one hand, all they care about is hockey and that's it. But on the other hand, they genuflect to the all-powerful and all-important suits at REA management on anything and everything. Even on an outcome such as this that would permanently harm our hockey programs forever. That's consistency for you. ???

The whole, entire purpose of Ralph Engelstad using a large chunk of his fortune to build a $104 million hockey palace was to benefit the hockey program, the UND campus as a whole and the City of Grand Forks. If the suits that currently run REA decide that flexing their muscles as a "private organization" is more important than giving our teams every chance in the world to host regionals and national tournament games, then they are part of the problem and are not fulfilling the original mission of the arena. I know it's almost a sin on this forum to criticize REA for anything, but I don't really care. Not giving our teams a home ice advantage whenever possible tells all of us what is really important to them and it's not UND athletics. Period. Flame away all you want.

Not hosting these events will also hurt REA's bottom line (I believe the 2006 West Regional sold out all three games). And there is something REA should keep in mind as this process moves forward at a glacial pace; they need UND as much as UND needs them. Sioux hockey is the unquestioned main tenant of the arena. What would they do without our teams; bring in a Major Junior franchise from Canada? That would never work in a college hockey town like Grand Forks; I wouldn't give the time of day to something like that and most of our fans wouldn't either.

I think the solution is for UND and REA to sit down like the adults that they are and work out an agreement that is fair to both sides and that is good for UND athletics without being burdensome to REA's financial situation. But I suppose in this world, that might be asking too much. :(

I am one of those hockey types you are taking about. I think you should have all the facts. UND will not host another NCAA regional because of the NCAA's rule for neutral sites, so UND won't be missing out on any money through the ralph for either hockey or basketball. Question is with football - how much does the Alerus get vs UND?

  10. The ND House of Representatives will be voting on the Fighting Sioux name and logo this Monday, Feb. 21st. I urge you to email our legislators and let them know that our identity is important.
