  1. While the site is nice, I can’t give any money to an anonymous website. Looking on the WHOIS, I only see that they are hiding behind GoDaddy’s anonymous system. Are they affiliated with any tribe? If so, who? Are they concerned citizens? If so, then they should put your pride in public. I encourage anyone and everyone who is thinking of sending this site money to rethink it until more is known about who is running it.

If you dont trust donating to the website then you can always contact the bank or mail a donation directly to The Committee for Understanding and Respect at Spirit Lake. Both the bank and Committees address are listed on the site as well. Call and verify it if you feel the need to have it verified.

  2. I sent the above note to all ND legislative members back in February. When it appeared that the passage of the bill backfired, I sent a follow-up e-mail to all of them (plus the governor & AG), asking them to take whatever action was necessary to put the issue to bed.

I received responses from 20-30 of them shortly after each of my e-mails were sent. Interestingly, I received two e-mails yesterday (one from a house member, the other from a senator), each implying that the law would be overturned during the November special session. It is odd that I would hear from two of them on the same day - weeks after the most recent communication from any legislator. It is also odd that they would be sending this message out prior to the meeting with the NCAA.

I don't know if I should "read anything into this" or if it was just a fluke that these two e-mails were received on the same day.

What two did you just hear back from? Curious?

  3. Standing Rock could have come forward at any point in the last 4-5 years to approve usage of the name and we wouldn't be at this point. We were always told to be patient for a vote on the reservation, it would all change with Murphy in office, the tribal council needs to take care of more pertinent issues first, etc. etc. etc. Fact is Standing Rock never did a thing, nor did leadership there intend for there to ever be a vote. To place blame on current administrators at UND or even the SBOHE for pulling the plug is just plain foolish.

You have no idea do you? What you said is just a bunch of nonsense. Archie and his committee has been out there battling the opposition on Standing Rock and with his petition and through his petition he proved that the support was all for the name and logo. The opposition has power and control that nobody will ever understand and that is what's stopping the vote. Dictatorship...

Maybe you should do alittle research into the corrupt politicians we have running our State, the SBoHE, and UND. This was there plan and intention from day one.

  4. Your a fiesty one dani_3333.

If you are looking for an argument don't look toward me.

This issue is not about you and not about ME that is for sure. What I have done or not done or can do or can't do would be a waste of time discussion here.

What matters here is what has happened and NOT happened on a community level. and the facts of the matter are that most of the significant actions since the settlement have been done by the tribes NOT the rest of the Sioux fans.

It needs to happen and pointing that out is valid regardless of my role in the whole thing..

So simmer down and keep you eye on the ball!

Not fiesty just upset with how much people will complain about nothing being done yet nobody is willing to do anything. I understand where your coming from but from the settlement the ultimate choice was to be made by the 2 Sioux Tribes. Well unfortunantly Standing Rock has 2 leaders who have alot of control and those 2 people are the ones preventing the vote. Archie has fought and fought and because of those 2 people can't get anywhere.

There was nothing the community could do. Now is the time....it's the final stretch and if your a "supporter" take 5 minutes and send emails to show just how much the name and logo has affected the community, UND, the state of ND, the country. Everywhere you go you see someone wearing fighting sioux gear. Time to show the NCAA and the SBoHE just how much the majority appeciate, honor, and respect the name and logo.

I am and will hold out hope that the "New" President of the NCAA will see some light from the letter and make the RIGHT call!!

  5. I think most of your pride should be directed toward Sioux Tribal members as they have continued to over and over again not give up on what is right.

UND Sioux fans and supporters have not done nearly enough in my humble opinion.

Losing the name will be a great injustice and we all know that, yet where is the passion to resist this wrong that is being perpetrated on all of us?

There should be an organization to keep the name, a web site, planned protests, lobbying the state and NCAA, and who is going to fork out a bit-o-cash and buy a billboard sign in Grand Forks that reads,

"YOU CAN'T TAKE AWAY OUR NAME! WE ARE THE FIGHTING SIOUX!"

Now I must ask...What have you done? You come on here talking all your talk but have you done anything? Im sorry to say but it's people like you who sit around doing nothing to help assist in the process. Im sick of people assuming that the people of Standing Rock are to blame. I myself have been deeply involved in this for nearly a year and I have done something and I will continue to do what I can until it's over for good. If your a so called "Supporter" get off your @$$ and DO SOMETHING!

  6. I appreciate your enthusiasm and determination. I am holding on to the slim possibility that something may happen today as well. But with all due respect, I don't believe the NCAA will do much nor do I feel that they will necessarily respond. I did a quick google search for news regarding the Sioux name and only two articles regarding the Spirit Lake letter came up. It may be in the media in ND but not on a regional or national level, thus I don't think the NCAA will feel any pressure to respond...just my opinion.

The information will get out. It doesn't happen overnight in some cases. The email was just sent out last night from Spirit Lake and was forwarded all over the place. Fox and Friends has been contacted as well. This will gain attention and the NCAA will feel pressure when they receive emails as we are pushing for people to email the NCAA and Fox and Friends.

  7. We are calling upon all the Fighting Sioux supporters out there to make this last and final push as big as it can possibly be. We are asking that you take a few minutes of your time to write an email to the following people. We need to do everything in our power to make it known that we support the people of both Sioux Tribes and the fact they want to allow the name and logo to stay. At this point the sbohe and und admin are rejecting the sioux people and this is unacceptable. We as the people of North dakota need to stand behind the people of Spirit Lake and Standing Rock and show just how much respect and support we have for them.

Its time to flood the emails of the following people to make our voices heard! Please take a few minutes to write a short email expressing your feelings on the name and logo.

    Mark Errert - NCAA president - memmert@ncaa.org

Bernard Franklin - NCAA Vice President - bfranklin@ncaa.org

    friends@foxnews.com - ATTN: Brian Kilmeade

  8. How many of you know that UND DID NOT HAVE TO GET RID OF OUR NAME AND LOGO? I have a letter sent to a gentlemen at Spirt Lake back in Sept. 2010 from Mr. Franklin at the NCAA stating the fact. The only thing that UND would lose is the right to host a NCAA tournament. From what I hear, it is a losing proposition for the hosting college since the NCAA comes in and takes all the ticket sales and percentages of all other receipts!

The State Higher Ed board sure hid that fact, didn't they!

I also have the full letter from Spirit Lake to the NCAA. You can PM me also!

I have also posted this on another topic which gives alot of insight into the whole issue and who's to blame. The following was NOT written by me and because apparently some people have a hard time reading the original that I posted here it is in paragraphs :silly:

There are so many misconceptions out there! I will give you food for thought...

1st; NCAA Walter Harrison (chairman executive committee) on April 28, 2006 (MPR News) rejected Archie Fool Bear (Standing Rock District Rep) statement of support... by the people and sacred ceremony, in favor of Ron His Horses Thunder's statement that the overwhelming Sioux of N.D. oppose the name and logo (Archie's statement has been proven true).

2nd; Bernard Frankliln (NCAA vice president) on Oct. 29, 2007 said the Sioux people and no one else should decide (First Amendment Center).

3rd; Incoming president of UND (his administration & staff would remain neutral on this issue) and Oct 2008 with support of Tribal members Spirit Lake tribal flag was raised along side of Standing Rocks at the REA.

4th; UND staff (professor Amy Phillips) aided opponents on Spirit Lake to influence members to reject the name & logo (March & April 2009).

5th; Opponents on Spirit Lake tried through the courts to silence the members voice (April 17, 2009).

6th; With help from powerful North Dakotan 's the one and only meeting took place at the Attorney Generals' office between supporters from Standing Rock and Spirit Lake and Chancellor Goetz addressed at the meeting (why no contact with supporters, the sacred ceremony, when Spirit Lake just voted 67% in support 3 weeks earlier, asked Goetz why are you going to retire the name & logo next week?) Also asked Chancellor Goetz have you met with the opponents? Goetz turned to his lawyer and his lawyer who said "not officially" (May 10, 2009).

7th; On May 14, 2009 the SBoHED did in fact retire the name & logo after hearing from supporters who were on the agenda and after Duaine Espergard called up His Horse's Thunder (who was not on the agenda) to rebutt supporters, part of his statement was (the people of S.R. will never have a voice and the sacred ceremony means nothing! made a motion with his hand and said "puff" it's gone").

This is but a small sample of what the Sioux of N.D. have had to go through.

What is clear is that at least over 60% of the Sioux of N. D.are in support of the name & logo. So for those of you that want to blame someone, put it where it belongs. A handful of whites that have sought a handful of Native Americans who have no respect for there ancestors or their people or their sacred ceremonies. This to achieve a common goal.

    Now for some of my opinions;

Alexander Ramsey who was first territory Governor of Minnesota in 1849, later Minnesota State until 1863 cheated the Dakota Sioux out of everything they had by using unscrupulous individuals to translate. He used his power of being in charge of Indian Affairs to do so and pushed them to war in 1862. He made the statement "exterminate them". I personally believe that we have witnessed the same treachery in this issue.

1st; Walter Harrison when faced with conflicting statements, choose not to find out the truth, but chose the one that fit his agenda.

2nd; Bernard Franklin must feel that only a handful of Sioux count.

3rd; After the vote on Spirit Lake in which 67% of the people came out in support, fear and desperation must have set into the SBoHE and UND (a need to change dates and requirements) to be able to blame the Sioux for their choice.

What is not an opinion is that the 3 organization have shown absolutely no respect for the Sioux people of North Dakota and brought shame to all 3 groups.

  9. I can't seem to figure out how to insert these images, PDF or otherwise, but if anyone wants them PM me and I will email them to you. Excellent letters to NCAA by Spirit Lake. They're exactly right: The NCAA's folly is that its attempt/process to prevent the Native Americans from being assaulted by the hostile and abusive nature of the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo has itself become hostile and abusive in the purest and most cynical sense.

Go to the Fargo Forum they have the letter up in PDF format for all to view!

  10. There is reasoning behind the convention of paragraphs.:silly:

Yes there is but like I said in my original post it was NOT written by me. There is no reason that anyone should have a hard time reading it though, I didn't and like I said neither did many others. Didn't your teachers ever teach you to use your finger when your reading to keep your place!! :silly:

  11. The NCAA "reconsidering" would mean admitting that they were wrong in their infinite wisdom. That. Will. Never. Happen.

The better approach by Spirit Lake would have been to sue the NCAA. Basis you ask? In Michigan all Central Michigan University needs is approval of one of the five Chippewa/Ojibwa/Ashinabe tribes in the state, and specifically, the geographically nearest.

Why doesn't Spirit Lake get similar, dare I say "equal", treatment , meaning, they're closest to UND and their approval should be enough (being one of two, which is better than one of five mind you).

But ... too little, too late.

This has been brought up already. It's not only with Michigan but also Florida that only had to get the ok from the trible closest to the University.

  12. No human can possibly read that in that form. Allow me to fix it.

Not sure if it's all factual, or if I agree with it all, but at least you can read it now.

The above is all 100% factual. The reason that people are going to think it's not is because alot of people are not 100% aware of what has really gone on. This opens doors for alot of people to understand just what has been done and by who.

I dont know why you had such a hard time reading it? I didn't and neither did alot of other people.

  13. Not sure if any of you caught the article on Yahoo or not but here's a reply that is interesting. This was not written by me.

  14. Mr. Fool Bear, In all honesty how much has the REA paid you in the last two years?

Why does people always think someone has to get paid to do something these days? What happened to a good ole strong voiced person? Archie is working close with his Committee for Civil Rights. He feels that it's very important that the enrolled members of Standing Rock have a voice on this issue. Why does he have to get paid to stand up for something he believes in?

I also, have been working with Archie Fool Bear. He and his group have not received any money from REA. All this money for the continued fight has come from individuals. I think you should find out the facts before you state something so stupid!

To all the people on this site, Archie and his group are doing a lot of things behind the scenes that not a lot of people know about. There are many things that will happen shortly to get that vote at Standing Rock. Instead of people complaining about non action at Standing Rock, get involved to help get that vote done!

Finally!! Someone who has there facts together. Yes there are a lot going on behind the scenes that not a lot of people know about. I am so grateful for Archie and all his hard work and I personally will continue to work closely with him and Eunice to get Standing Rock the vote the enrolled members deserve and to do anything it takes to save the name and logo.

I couldn't agree with your statement more. To all of those of you on this forum that are negative about the issue yet you call yourself a true "Fighting Sioux" fan. Have faith in the people that are working there a$$es off and do something to help. I have asked for names of attorneys to assist in the process and so far only one person from the forum has stepped up and offered any information. Dont just give up because you think it's over cause like I have said it's far from over.

  15. After speaking with Eunice Davidson we would like anyone who has contact information for any attorneys that would be interested in giving some legal advice. If you know of any avid Fighting Sioux fans that are attorneys or any past or present UND Alumni that are attorneys she has requested that you e-mail fightingsioux@ymail.com with any suggestions.

We will be meeting on Saturday August 21 and would like to have contacted all attorneys that we can by that time.

Also, Archie D. Fool Bear as you know is pushing for a tribal vote on the issue and has hired a private attorney for this reason. We are asking that anyone who would like to contribute to helping with legal expense as well as general expense while pursuing this. He has received some response from former UND Alumni already and we are asking that if you have the ability and can please help with the expenses. All money will go to the Committee for Civil Rights that Archie is part of.

Any further questions or concern can be e-mailed to fightingsioux@ymail.com Eunice, Archie and myself all have access to this e-mail and will reply to any and all e-mails as soon as possible

    Donations can be sent to:

    Archie D. Fool Bear

    7764 Fool Bear Rd.

    P.O. Box 419

    Fort Yates ND 58536

Thanks to all of you who continue to support this issue. We believe that Democracy will prevail!

  16. Thank you guys so much for your support. I know that alot think this is done and over with but it's not. I myself along with the 2 main people Archie and Eunice will continue to look at ALOT of different avenues and hopefully something will jump out at as. Archie is still going strong with what he has going on and I am so grateful for everything him and Eunice have done. Those 2 people have inspired me in so many ways. We will continue to do all that we can to #1 get the enrolled members of Standing Rock the vote they deserve to be heard and to help save the name and logo.

I don't know if you guys are on facebook but I found and posted a quote that is so true:

  17. What happened in standing up for what you believe in? I am one of those that will NOT give up until there is not hope left. The fight is far from over and yes I believe that in the end the people of Standing Rock will get to vote. I will keep on keeping on with this until it's all said and done with.

Im not continuing my efforts because Im OBSESSED Im continuing my efforts because Im going to 100% stand up for what I believe in.

    ~Fight on Sioux~

BTW I will be meeting with Archie and Eunice on Saturday and if anyone has any ideas they would like brought to the table please email them to fightingsioux@ymail.com

  18. I will be meeting with Eunice Davidson of Spirit Lake and Archie Fool Bear of Standing Rock on Saturday. Will have more information as soon as we meet. There are many things to be talked about. We are going to put our heads together and see what is going to be the best avenue to take. If anyone has any ideas that might be worth a shot please email your ideas or suggestions to fightingsioux@ymail.com and they will be brought up at the meeting.

I know alot of people have "given up" but by no means is this over yet. Archie is putting out a good fight and we will all continue to fight this one out til the end.

At this point our main concern is getting the people of Standing Rock the chance to vote on this issue.

Thanks for your continued support in this issue.

    Danielle

  19. Anything those of us who are alum but now live out of state can do?

We are in the process of finding that out. Still have a few ends to tie on the "legals" of the Petition. Once I find out I will let you all know. Best thing to do would be email fightingsioux@ymail.com so I can track all that are interested and get back to you that way once we find out!

  20. Thanks!! I will not give up on this issue until what I feel is right is done. I think that it is very important that the enrolled members of Standing Rock be allowed to vote. I know that not everyone looks on here or facebook so right now Im asking for people to volunteer there time to go out and gather signatures. Just grab a notebook and start gathering signatures. I will ask that you first get ahold of me with the city that you are in so that we have an idea of where we still need to cover when looking for people throughout the state.

All contact can be done through fightingsioux@ymail.com

Either myself or Patrick will reply as soon as possible!

  21. Why give up hope when hope is still very much alive!

"May the logo and the Fighting Sioux name live on forever!" Ralph Engelstad - October 5, 2001

We have decided that it's time to really push this issue. We want to gain the support of all who are in favor of the name and logo. The Fighting Sioux name and logo have created some of us to be who we are. We think that it's very important to fight this issue until the very end. Who are the SBoHE and NCAA anyway? Thinking that they can just step in and make the final call. We will not stand for this. Let the "Sioux" tribes of North Dakota be the final decision makers. Spirit Lake has make there decision and that is to allow the name and logo to stay. Standing Rock Tribal Council is hushing the voices of all those that matter - the enrolled members of the tribe.

We are calling upon the Residence of the State of North Dakota to step forward and Sign this petition not because you want the name and logo to stay but because the civil rights of the members of Standing Rock have been torn away from them. They have the right to have a voice and to have that voice heard.

We will need signatures collected on paper and are seeking residence of communities all over the State of North Dakota to step up to form a committee to gather those signatures. If interested please contact us at fightingsioux@ymail.com

We Thank you all in advance for your continued support on this issue!

    Danielle S and Patrick D
