  1. Remember, this was with Osunde (Westchester's starting RB), out with a knee injury. He was obviously the only thing that allowed WC to move the ball against UND. They put up more points against Delaware without Osunde than they did against UND with him.

Keep speculating. Until your foo foo Pres. and lackey AD want to take your athletic program to the mext level you had better concentrate on the *ncc. I'm getting tired of all this s&!t talk from the undies. STEP UP OR SHUT UP. What else more needs to be said.

    Idiot. Period.

Sorry but I have to get ready to head out to a SOLD -OUT DIVISION I game in Montana this wknd. Have fun with your shellacking of Augustana this wknd and best of luck with the Dac-10 in the future...... :D:);):D

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

With all credit to those teams, they would not destroy the 2005 Bison. Everybody knows that lateral speed will kill an option offense. For reference, check last years Bison/Carson-Newman game. I go to the games, you do not. Stick to following the whioux. That is your obvious strength :D:)

  4. Okay, my bad. You'd think CSTV would have a current poll, but I digress. So, actually, Delaware is ranked even higher than I thought they were. If a team that was 2-9 in their 2nd to last year in D2 can be ranked in the top 10 in just their 2nd year of D-1AA, just imagine what a perennial D2 powerhouse such as UND, UNO, GVSU, or PSU might do if and when they decide to make that move. I think this all goes to show that the step up from D2 to D-1AA is nothing more than a baby step.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I really wish you would EDUCATE YOURSELF on this one. Yes, NDSU was 2-8. What you fail to recognize is that NDSU did not "just change divisions" and become 8-3 our fist year of I-AA. Check our roster and you will see a $hitload of DI recruits. I hope you are not still paying on your student loan from that fine UND education. That, my friend, is ignorant. Let me help you:

With the move to DI, NDSU made a 110% COMMITMENT to being playoff eligible by 2008. That involves revruiting DI athletes, getting DI coaching, and getting a lot of money (i.e. Team Makers/alumni contributions, etc.) to make the wheels turn. We didn't "just go DI". If the above mentioned schools (PSU, GVSU) had the resources and the wherewithal to do the same thing that the Bison are they might be succesful, to their credit. There is a firm belief and an even firmer commitment to making this work. Probably foreign language to the big fish in an ever increasingly-small pond.....................

  5. Well, let's use Delaware as a measuring stick. Delaware, currently ranked #11 in D-1AA beat West Chester 42-21 this past Saturday. UND beat West Chester 41-7 a few Saturdays ago. The fact that UND beat West Chester more convincingly than Delaware beat them leads me to believe that UND would hold their own against most D-1AA teams.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

und2 would most certainly hold their own against quite a few I-AA teams. However, against the elite teams they would come away realizing how much they were lacking overall. Not a jab--just reality. I have been watching the Bison for well over 20 yrs and I will say right now without a doubt that this yrs team is the most talented that I have EVER seen. Size, depth, SPEED. AGRESSIVENESS. It's all there. If you don't believe me buy a ticket and come watch us play Nicholls State next week. OR, watch the Montana State game this saturday. It's on statewide TV in ND & MT. I believe the whioux play augustana :D

  6. I was just listening to WDAY radio here in Fargo and our favorite SU homer Steve Hallstrom was saying that UND wasn't any better than a top 30 team.  I called and disagreed. I feel that the top of DII is as good as top 15-20 in IAA.  NDSU's upset of Montana is an example.  NDSU doing well last year with mostly a DII holdover team is an example. DIAA and DII are recruiting the same players.  IAA isn't stealing kids from big time schools, they're competing with area schools in II or low I.  I don't think the quality of players is covincingly different. I want to know what people think.

Obvious answers are depth of roster and depth of schedule?  I think UND may be talented enough to win the Great West this year.  I know they're coached well enough and disciplined well.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You cannot be serious. I will probably be lambasted on this board as being a Bison homer but--seriously--have you personally been to ANY Bison games this year? Have you noticed that the athletes are bigger, stronger and FASTER? It is not a facade. It is most certainly a higher level of competition and to think that UND would win the Great West is absurd. They would most likely finish 4th or 5th. Seriously. NDSU, Poly, Davis, and I dare say SDSU would all beat UND head to head this year. I would also say that NDSU & Poly would handle the sioux convincingly.

    GO BISON!!!

  7. Assuming you're correct, where's the line item in UND's FY 04 (projected) revenues that says "appropriated funds"? Why is the legislature ear-marking funds for athletics for one university and not for them all? (PS - It was $713,000.)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

How much do UM Crookston game tickets go for these days?:D At least Mayville State isn't that far away. Shouldn't be too much of a strain on the athletic budget :D;):0

  8. Back to the subject of increasing football attendance, how about sending free subrscriptions of Sioux Illustrated to high school libraries in ND and NW MN? At only $15 per year, it wouldn't cost all that much to send it to 50 or so schools in the region, and could increase interest in Sioux Athletics.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

marketing 101: don't people have to be interested in something before they buy into it? Big fish, small pond: I see a parallel, do you?

  9. I couldn't tell you who, in fact, set those MSUM "games" up but it was clearly an embarassment to both programs. I went to both and actually thought the first one (72-6 or something) was kind of funny :) . The second (80-0) was really bad. I actually felt sorry for the MSUM players and left the game early. If my memory serves, I think it was originally set up for a 3 game series. After the second game, I believe it was actually NDSU who called MSUM and essentially said "thanks but no thanks" as neither program was getting anything positive from the series. I also thought the idea was for MSUM to take the guarantee money and apply it to schollies, facility upgrades, etc for their (then upcoming) move to DII. From what I can tell, they've done neither with said money. Maybe Alfonso Scandrett can help them turn that corner as they are clearly a sorry program right now.

  10. Kevin McKenna returned to Creighton on Friday with the idea that it could help him become an NCAA Division I head basketball coach.

    Kevin McKenna

But Creighton coach Dana Altman and athletic director Bruce Rasmussen said McKenna's hiring as an assistant doesn't mean Altman's eventual successor has been put in place.

"Absolutely nothing like that has been discussed," Altman said. "I wouldn't try to influence the university in any way like that. Brian Fish would be a good head coach, and so would Darian DeVries. Kevin was hired to be an assistant coach."

McKenna, 46, took the University of Nebraska at Omaha to unprecedented heights in his four-year stay, winning 89 games and leading the Mavs to three Division II tournaments and two North Central Conference titles.

Kevin McKenna's head-coaching record with the University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball team:

    2001-2002...*24-9

    2002-2003...20-10

    2003-2004...*22-8

    2004-2005...*23-6

    Totals...89-33

*Earned NCAA Division II regional berths. NCC regular-season champs in 2004 and 2005.

He resigned Friday to fill the opening created at Creighton when Greg Grensing left for a position at UNLV in May. He joins Fish and DeVries on the Bluejay staff.

Derrin Hansen, a seven-year assistant coach, has been named the interim coach at UNO.

"It was a tough decision," McKenna said. "There are very few people I would leave this job to go work for, and Dana is one of them. I have a lot of respect for him. I'm flattered he offered me the job because of how good a coach I think he is."

McKenna played for Creighton and spent seven years as an assistant under Altman, from 1994 through 2001.

Altman said McKenna offered the best of both worlds when it comes to hiring an assistant coach.

"You're looking for new energy - somebody to spark the staff - and you're always hoping for continuity," he said. "Kevin will give us a little of both."

Altman, 47, has been on the short list of several major conference teams with head coaching openings. He said he "wouldn't hire anybody who I didn't think has the potential" to be a head coach.

Altman said McKenna, Fish and DeVries are all considered equals, with none designated as the No. 1 assistant. Fish is the recruiting coordinator.

McKenna made just under $80,000 at UNO. Both Altman and McKenna declined to say what his Creighton salary would be.

"It is what it is," McKenna said. "I'm comfortable with it."

In McKenna's first stay as a CU assistant, his duties as the since-eliminated "restricted earnings coach" limited him to on-campus recruiting. He will now be able to recruit off campus.

  11. Who forgot to lock the padded room?

For most sport fans, winning is primary.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Winning is indeed primary. Who you are beating makes it even sweeter. Referring to one of my previous posts, "I guess it's all about aspirations then, isn't it?".

  12. We live in a world of instant-gratification. Did NDSU go DI just to say "we're DI and therefore we're cool"? Hell no. Are we going to become the next Michigan overnight? Nope. We are talking about a 10-15 yr process here. Plenty of room for the naysayers but those that believe know better. Face it--people up here (in general and by upbringing) don't like change. NDSU is stepping up to the forefront and being proactive. Even if we were to get into the Big Sky (wishful thinking), could we beat Montana, Eastern Washington--even Montana State, consistently? Probably not. Those are some tough programs, come to think of it. All around-not just football. Could we be consistently competitive? Absolutely. NDSU is in a seriously aspirational phase right now and what's wrong with that? Yes I am biased but, to be objective, they should be applauded--not ridiculed. The whole state of ND should be supportive of this and if UND would follow suit I believe it would be beneficial to everybody.

  14. Lennon has already been one of the outspoken coaches @UND for making the move. He feels that the sioux could be competitive in I-AA FB and rightfully so. Without the proper backing and full administrational support he's only spinning his wheels. That's gotta be frustrating to a guy like Dale. I predict that if UND doesn't step it up soon that Lennon will take his talents elsewhere. I can think of quite a few DI programs that would love to have a coach of his caliber aboard. Appreciation does not necessarily equal appreciation PLUS compensation/exposure. Take Joe Glenn for instance.....
