  1. I wish I knew the answer to that one. I assume that some of those people have been fortunate when it comes to inheritance (or money gifted by living family). However, there has got to be some massive debt floating out there(not just the debt that goes along with the mortgage). I can't imagine that many of those Escalades or Trailblazers are paid for in full but I could be wrong.

Capitalism, it ain't perfect but it is the best.

  2. If people are making around $20000 a year with a family of four, perhaps they should find a different job or get themselves fixed rather than going to a football game. :D

Or they could just go do the exact same job anywhere else in the country besides Grand Forks and get paid a better salary.

The young people are leaving, the numbers don't lie. Pretty soon the wealthy will no longer have young people to serve them at restaurants, check them out at the store, or even care for them when they are old and in the nursing home. This is the true danger of the anti-youth sentiment in this community.

  3. They are the type of people that spend the whole game sitting in the beer garden with the who's who of Grand Forks. The same people that go to the Sioux hockey games, sit in puck alley, spend the entire warm-ups gabbing to their friend, and then wonder why they get drilled with pucks. Football is not as bad as hockey, yet. However, if the football team could rattle off a couple of good years in a row we might be there. Whether right or wrong, Sioux sporting events are turning into "social clubs" rather than games to watch.

  4. Fixed your post.

    You're welcome.

I'm not a Gopher fan, but rather a realistic Sioux fan.

Realistic is thinking that Massen is ready for a big year. He has been quite impressive at times during his first two years.

Realistic is thinking that the Sioux will have a rock solid defensive group.

Realistic is thinking that Parise/Murray/Bochenski will put up similar numbers to the line of fire if paired together.

I don't think that Genoway or Canady getting 10 goals is realistic.

The only thing that we need is a goalie to step up, the other pieces are in place.

  5. I see where you are coming from. However, I think that KISS and Aerosmith will do better because they are more popular among college age kids than Fleetwood is. There are plenty of college kids in the valley that would go see KISS before Fleetwood in my opinion.

Is it true that Nov 8 is also hunting opener? That may hurt attendance too.

  6. Students have slowly but surely been getting squeezed out of seats at the Englestad the last few years. Pretty soon, the Alerus won't have to worry about conflicts because there won't be any students at the games anymore, just 50 year old "good old boys".

I think that an act like KISS will have no problem selling out. Keep in mind that this concert will probably attract a great deal of Fargo people too.

  7. Actually, Blais must not have liked you. Being able to stop shots has not been a pre-requisite for UND goalies since Karl left. :glare:

It seems that I am in the minority here so I will bow out of the thread. I guess agree to disagree is best.

  8. Sorry Goon, it was not a mix-up.

I have a problem with some players getting preferential treatment. I expect it to happen in the pros but would like to think that UND is better than that. I guess I am old fashioned, disagree if you like.

It is nothing Brandt specific. It just doesn't seem right that goalies like Ranfranz and Siembida, though obviously less talented, get sent down the river even though they stay out of trouble.

  9. I think that anything that is public record is fair game. Enough stuff gets swept under the rug the way it is without a gag order being issued for this board.

  10. I agree about the underage alcohol violations. The minors in possession/consumption don't bother me as much especially if they are over 18. I guess I am a believer in the old enough to fight (military draft age being 18) old enough to drink theory, whether right or wrong.

Theft is an entirely different ball game.

  11. The only thing that I will say is to check gf county court records. It is free and available to any concerned citizen. The court does not keep "rumors" on file. You want facts, go there and check it out. If you do check, you will be surprised.

  12. Once again, he doesn't need any of us to tarnish his name because he is doing it himself. But I do admire how you are standing by your friend, I would do the same thing.

  13. It is not a rumor (the 02 theft)...but rather a matter of public record. Something that could be verified with a check of Grand Forks County District Court records.

As far as tarnishing his name, I was not the one that allegedly stole the pull tabs. When you play hockey at UND you are put on a pedestal, whether right or wrong. Each and every player is willing to accept the "praise and worship" from the local community when things go right, which is fine. However, they need to also be willing to accept criticism when they screw up.
