  1. Although Mario has been scoreless the first round of the Clark Cup play-offs, the #4 Storm advance after beating #1 Omaha 3 games to 2.

Neither team won a home game in this series.

Lammy finished the round with 0g, 0a, 12pim, and +2

On to Sioux City for round 2 starting Tuesday the 13th.

  2. Mario had a couple of pretty good games this week-end.

Friday night he sparked the team to a win after dropping the gloves against an kid 2 years older than him. A few of the older guys gave him props for getting the game going in their favor.

Saturday, the Storm were down 1-0 and he puts one away to tie the game. They went on to win 5-2. He also had an assist.

For an 88 I've been real impressed with his play. He's not afraid to mix it up with older, bigger players. He's got pretty good ice vision and speed.

Coach Littler said he WILL play at UND, then backtracked and stated he didn't want to speak for Mario.

    ......time will tell.

  3. I'm shooting around this crazy theory that states:

The more played on the road early in the season, the more home games late in the season.  Is this true or just typica RW77 hogwash? ;)

A big plus, I believe, to road games early is it brings the team closer together quicker.

Or....that too could be hogwash.

  4. Actually, Macplot has such storied posts as "i saw rory mcmahon at wendys"  and I saw Rory at Target buying Q-Tips.  We just treated his thanksgiving post as more of the same.

Some sort of weird fettish going on there I believe.

  5. Hey Bubz --

As an American of Slovak descent, I just have to set the record straight concerning the word "slav".  The only reason I am pointing this out is that many people in Eastern Europe think the word "slav" is durogatory.  I know that is not at all what you meant -- I get your name-play off of Rastislav! :)

The flag pictured is that of the Slovak Republic (Slovakia), which is where Spirko hails from.  There is not, and has never been, a country called Slavia.  The word "slav" is a tribal name, like the words "viking" and "celt".  These words do not designate a nationality.  Just as we say our heritage is Norwegian, Swede, Irish, Scot, etc., ethnic Slovaks are Slovak -- not "slav".

I don't mean to get all political on you.  Just want to welcome young Mr. Spirko appropriately -- looks like he's already made himself at home!!!

The ONLY reason I call him $l@v, is that's what some of the players and fans around here were calling him. It was never meant to be derogatory to you or to anyone else. I will stop. He seemed to get a kick out of it. :(

I know what nationality the flag I posted is. That's why I posted it.

  6. I see Tri-City Storm have a couple of Slovakians on their team this year. Do you think Ratislov Spirko coming to UND will open the door for more of his fellow slovakians. Just curious what everyone things. The Junior tourny will help out a lot to for recruiting.

    Jaroslav Markovic '85

    Hometown: Martin, Slovakia

    Position: F

    Height: 5-11

    Weight: 170

    Michal Lukac '84

    Hometown: Kosice, Slovakia

    Position: F

    Height: 6-0

    Weight: 170

Markovic reminds me of Spirko in alot of respects. He's adjusting to American hockey a little slower then Slav did, but am looking forward to him putting up some numbers this season.

Buc Bowl he had 3g, 4a in 3 games.

Reg season he has 1g, 3a in 5 games.

  7. McMahon - from Kaip & Prpich

Schneider - from Bina & Fylling

Murray - from Genoway & Spirko

    Stafford - the hero

I see Spirko has been credited for an assist on the Schneider goal as well.

Congrats to 'the Slav' for the 2 points last night.

  8. If he gets interviewed during an intermission this season, I hope he has a broader vocabulary than Mr. Vanek had his freshman year.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    :D

Atleast when you talk to Spirko, you can tell the 'lights are on'.

Hopefully, the interview will come next season.
