  1. Great job UND . You really put a butt kicking on us last night . I feel bad but its like getting beat up by your big brother ya get a bloody nose ya pick yourself up dust yourself off and say maybe next time. It looks like the final should be a great game good luck from this Gopher fan

  2. Nice job this weekend UND. It was great seeing Jack Paaaka and Jerry Yaawk both looking like they just ate a turd. Id say all of our teams did the WCHA proud. UND is red hot coming in right now and id pick them as favorites. Of course im hoping otherwise but nice job this weekend.

  3. Turk,

That's funny stuff.  Maybe if the announcers had shouted "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL," your new-found friends south of the border may have taken a liking to the game.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I did explain it was sort of like soccer/football on ice.It was something ill never forget. My wife thought i was crazy and it took me awhile but i found the game. It seems to me UND beat BC that game 4-2?
  4. I really didn't think UND had a shot three weeks ago and I still think they're a long-shot, but you're correct, Turk, who knows?  It has been a strange season.  All I know is that in three weeks when the season ends, I'm probably going to jump off of the Robert Street Bridge knowing that's the last hockey we'll be seeing until next October.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I agree and im whizzed the NHL didnt do right by thier fans and settle up.At least ill be in Vegas the night of the NCAA final. Hey that might work in UNDs favor last time i was out of town for a NCAA final it was 2000l i was in Mexico it was sureal i payed this barkeep to keep searching for it and finally he found the game it was funny me and my son and 10 mexican guys standing behind us scratching thier heads asking whats a SOOOO?
  5. Which is it, then, Gopher fans? "We deserve a #1 seed" or "we don't have the horses to get to the Frozen Four"?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

[/quoteWe dont deserve a number 1 seed IMO . Do we have a the horses to get to the frozen four? Yes but will they ride? I honestly dont know this has been one of the strangest years i have ever witnessed in 35 years of Gopher watching.I think the only only thing that keeps me even a little optimistic is Denver last year. I stuck a fork in them long before the NCAA teams were picked and look what happened. Our conference is so tough that any one of 5 teams can get hot and win it all. The way UND looked this weekend who know maybe not being a favorite this year will work in thier behalf. UND has had me perplexed for most of the year and now they start really playing

  6. And wasn't it just a few years that Hockey East was so proudly showcasing 3 teams in Anaheim?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

A terrible place to have a tourney.I question having it in Columbus this year. I wonder how a WCHA final five in say Chicago or Denver or maybe st Louis would do . I would go but im a core fan.
  7. Turk77,

Take the Sioux out of there and what would you have had attendance-wise?  If memory serves me correct, the teams involved were Niagara, New Hampshire, Boston College, Michigan State, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.  BC beat Wisconsin and UND beat Niagara.  UND and Wisconsin fans made that tournament.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

and thats the whole point of putting them in that region. Do you think that the Ralph will be full next year if UND isnt in it? Lets just say its Denver with a bunch of teams from out east do think it will be packed house? Its easy to say it will but you never know.Mpls has alot of grads from WCHA schools in and around the area.
  8. Turk77,

We agree on something!  Nice work.  I knew we could do it.  I think a lesson everyone learned last year is that you don't go all out like gangbusters for the Broadmoore Trophy.  How many coaches watched DU's run and thought "hmnnn...heal up while they duke it out, then quietly get into the NCAA's and win the whole frickin' thing..."

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Its happened a few times i remember Sconny doing it to us in 1981 after being upset by CC in the WCHA playoffs. Instead of a final five post season tourney maybe they should make it a preseason tourney. let all of the other teams pound on each other and all of the WCHA teams could stay home get healthy. I shouldnt complain to much the WCHA dominates alot in college hockey, there is a reason it seems to be a wcha team winning it alot more than not in the finals. We beat each other up and then go beat everybody else up, so i guess its a perfectly flawed system
  9. Quite honestly, I'd like to see which regional would draw more without the home team, sagard.  A lot of the proud Gopher faces I saw on Friday night couldn't even come out to watch the 3rd place game on Saturday.  What makes you think they'd watch Maine v Ohio State/Cornell on Easter Sunday?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Seems to me we did pretty well without the Gophers in a few years ago at Marriucci.having the final on easter sunday is pretty stupid IMO .
  10. Turk77,

You're incorrect.  Your 1997 Gophers played Michigan in Grand Rapids, about two and a half hours from Ann Arbor.  If you're going to say the Xcel is "neutral" ice and not Gopher territory, I'd hardly consider a two and a half hour drive from Ann Arbor as Wolverine country (except in football).

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

You are correct. My point is that it was a bit of a shaft to the Gophers that year. I think the third place game should be dropped only becasue it doesnt seem to really have any impact on the seedings. The only goal of the final 5 is to make money. have it at the Ralph every year and charge more money for the tickets. I could care less Then we can continually whine about home ice advantage for the Sioux. It seems like you are almost safer not playing in the final five. The NCAAs are all about who can win 4 games in a row.Right now i dont like Minnesotas chances
  11. At least we don't have to hear the word "upset," which is what you'd get if a #4 seed Gopher team lost at Mariucci to a #1 seed Maine.

I heard enough of that to last me a lifetime w/the 1998 Sioux team and the 2002 Denver team.  I would hardly consider it Jets over Colts or Villanova/Georgetown when a top-ranked hockey team loses to a slightly lower-ranked team that is playing "host".

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I know what you are saying and i agree. The Gophers record is 6-2 for thier last 8 which is misleading also. The bottem line we dont deserve a number 1 seed but it really doesnt matter being they host it anyway . UND could very well have the same problem next year. We got a break i can go back to 97 and remember when they tied UND for the regular season and lost the final five in OT and were rewarded with Mich at Yost while CC played the little sisters of the poor out east and made it in to the frozen four. So it goes both ways
  12. A tough first game?  Maine has been barely skating by all season, Turk.  You're basing them on reputation alone.  Kinda like the computer did with the Gophers.  Again, go re-read the article.  3-7 in their last 10 games against teams in this same tournament.  #3 in the conference (tied) and #4 in the conference tournament.  This is what it's come to?  A 1998 Colorado College team that lost, what, all of 3 games that year, doesn't make the cut for the final twelve because they lost to Michigan Tech in the first round of the WCHA playoffs and seven years later, we award a #1 seed to a team with a winning percentage in the .600's?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Maine is has lost what maybe 3 in thier last 18 games they have played a very good BC team 3 time in the last 2 weks and lost 2 close games and tied them.Maine is the toughest 4 seed . They very well could win our region especailly considering the plane crash the Gophers have morphed into. I think you need to reread my post.
  13. This is one of those rare instances where the old method of choosing seeds for the NCAA might have been better. Do the Gophers deserve a number 1 seed? I dont think so as it is we were rewarded with a tough first game and will probably be one and done. But who knows they are kids.I think UND has a very good chance in thier regional they have always played the Boston teams tough.

  14. POI was a great site.  The icetime feature was absolutely unique to message boards and actually created many friendships off the 'net.

This is a fantastic site as well.  JD has put in an incredible amount of work on this board and his PWR break downs, and "what if" are the absolute best available on the internet.

JD- I hope if you ever lose the passion for running the sight, you reach out to the ss.com community for help before shutting down.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

THis is a well run site and i will as Scott did at POI read and post with respect.
  15. I generally enjoyed POI, and dealing the Minnesota faithful there.  It's like being in somebody else's house, if you mind your manners, you can have a pretty good time.  However, there were/are a number ss.com posters who posted enough infantile crap on POI that I was often embarrassed for this board, and our program.  Too bad some of these same clowns are still here.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Every team has its 5% of fans that are losers . Most hard core fans of teams are college hockey fans in general .I have several friends that are UND fans we have alot of fun ripping on each others programs but when the Gophers won it all in 02 & 03 they were the first to call and offer congrats as i was with them when UND has won it.Both programs are the envy of most other college teams. Sure there was crap on POI just like any other board.but it offered a medium for conversation about our favorite sport so losing it hurts
  16. Glad to hear POI is done.  Everytime I tried to comment on that site you'd be mocked and ridiculed just because you're not a Gofer fan.  Maybe that says more about the fans then the site though.  As a Sioux fan I'd be bummed if SS.com ever stopped.  It's a great site to get information and links.  I really appreciate the work you guys do.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

And that never happens on this site
  17. We have the greatest tandem of school fight songs in all of college sports.

Not to mention the balls to stand firm on a proud tradition and heritage of The Fighting Sioux . . . .

The name, and the tradition, is all that the people know. We don't need no stinking chants or cheers, not that we need any. This said, Guck the Fophers ain't bad.

By the way, my favorite one in Mariucci, on those regular occasions when the Sioux are taking to the Gophers and there are therefore no other chants to be heard from the legions of Mariucci fair weather faithful is . . . .

N-O-R-T-H-D-A-K-O-T-A North Dakota! North Dakota! Ehhhhh Sioux!!!

    M-I-N-N-E-K-O-T-A ain't bad either.

    "Brown & Yellow" is another.

Happy Holidays WPoS. You are a fine, although a somewhat misguided and uninformed, man.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Those regular occassions ?The Sioux havent swept at Marriucci since 1980. Fair weather faithfull? Uncle Ralphie funded your balls to stand on tradition. Dont kid yourself :0
