  1. I didn't know Grand Forks Airport was able to handle jets. I doubt there is anything non-stop from Newark or Philadelphia, but maybe something that goes through Minneapolis or Denver.

just an FYI for you... philly is usually about $100 cheaper than newark when flying northwest/delta for me. i fly to nj 3-4 times a year to visit family and i always check both airports, and philly is ALWAYS cheaper.

  2. Dartmouth (as obnoxious as they are) is the only school that I know of that does not have an official nickname or mascot.

Isn't Dartmouth's official nickname "Big Green?"

  3. I personally would love to see lacrosse at UND. I would go to a lot lacrosse games if it was offered anywhere in the area. I grew up around lacrosse back east and think it would draw pretty well up here.

Besides the students that would be interested, and the rest of us here, there is also a lot of guys from the east and west coast from the base that would probably be interested in a men's lacrosse program. I can name at least 10 people with me in the room I'm in right now that would attend games.

    Just my two cents.

  4. Chorney is signing with Edmonton in August for I believe $760k, which is below the rookie max but not a bad pay day. This is according to my brother's conversation with Chorney himself.

I hate to start rumors, but if he is talking openly about it, I view that as being public knowledge.

Well, Taylor Chorney isn't listed as attending the Edmonton Oilers prospect camp, if that means anything. Chris VandeVelde is, though.

  5. the wikipedia one? that one is right.

i got most of that stuff off wiki, but someone on page one said that central had 26 state titles, i had written 24.

here is what i got for the ralph so far, i'd appreciate some help making this read a little better:

The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux hockey teams play their home games in the Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Ralph is a $104 million arena that seats 11,640. The concourses of the REA are covered in granite flooring, each spectator seat is made of cherry wood and leather upholstery, escalators bring spectators between levels, and full-color LCD displays dot the arena. The arena was donated by former Fighting Sioux goaltender Ralph Engelstad. NHL great Wayne Gretzky was quoted calling the arena "one of the most beautiful buildings we have in North America" during the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championships, which Grand Forks hosted. Only walking through the concourse of The Ralph can you truly start to appreciate the storied history of Fighting Sioux Hockey. Every great player in the history of the program has a spot on the walls of the arena, immortalized on giant graphics that show everything from the seven National Championship teams to hockey card-like posters of players that include statistics from the player
  6. Things to add/change

    1. Central hockey state titles from 24 to 26

    2. Red River boys and girls tennis championships

    3. UND Swimming and Diving Championships

    4. UND Football Championship (NCAA and NCC)

    5. UND Basketball Championships.

Those are just a few things that I feel could be added to make the state better at more than a few things.

i got the central hockey titles, but i need to know the UND swimming and diving championships.

also, what about the RR tennis did you want changed?

also, im trying to spice up the paragraph on the ralph and need to figure out a way to describe the huge pictures of Sioux greats with their stats. im pretty tired (11.5 hours into a 12 hour shift in 100 degree heat) so if anyone can find the word im looking for id appreciate it, haha

  7. Found this info in the media guides on FightingSioux.com

    Men's Basketball - 18 NCC Championships

Women's Basketball Div II NCAA 97-98-99 and 11 NCC Championships

Men's Football - 24 NCC Championships (14 outright titles and 10 shared titles)

    Jim Kleinsasser Minnesota Vikings.

    got 'em.

  8. just saw this on ESPN.com

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/titletown/index

Maybe get Grand Forks in on it, considering we're in such a low populated area and all the championships maybe they would give us a good look. I'm not very good at wording stuff like this. If somebody wants to try and sell ESPN on GF and UND, I think we could have a decent chance at getting on this.

If someone wants to get together a list of all the school's championships and notable pros in any sport, plus any Olympians that have medals (Dave Christian comes to mind) I'll write one up, and post it here so everyone can have input before it's submitted.

EDIT: I found a bunch of stuff on the internet, but I can't seem to find Hobey finalists, and I forget what that commercial on midco always says. I'll post it either later today or early tomorrow so y'all can have a look-see.

  9. Anyone have the actual rule?

From the 2006-2008 NCAA Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Rules And Interpretations:

SECTION 18. a. A goal is scored when the puck passes between the goal

posts initially propelled legally by the stick of a player of the attacking

team, entering from the front, and below the top of the net and completely

across the goal line with the goal frame in its proper position. If the puck

was touched last by a defending player before it entered the cage, the

goal is allowed, unless otherwise identified in Rule 6-18-c-10.

A goal shall be allowed if the puck has been directed into the goal by an

attacking player with the skate, unless a distinct kicking motion is used.

When administering this rule, the puck must initially be legally propelled

    by a stick.

    It's on page 68 FWIW.

  10. I don't have time to read this whole thing but the idea of a coaching change is ludicrous. Albeit, I hav only been a Sioux fan for 7-8 years (since I moved to Grand Forks), but getting to the Frozen Four four years in a row in a single elimination tournament is a helluva accomplishment.

This team is probably one of the lesser talented Sioux teams I have seen, and they still managed to make it to the national semifinals.

You think Duke would fire Coach K if he lost in four consecutive Frozen Fours? Did the Bills fire Marv Levy after the Bills lost a fourth straight Super Bowl?

You can't win it all every year, but it's dang nice to know that come the end of the season you'll have a chance to do so.

  11. Does AFN still only have one channel or do they have more than one option now?

I remember it used to go off the air at 0000 some nights.

We have like 6-7 here... 1 is always crappy movies, 1 is always sports, 1 is always news, and there are others that play regular tv, and one is "AFN XTRA" which is a mixture between sports and other stuff... and sometimes wrestling.

  12. You said AFN do you mean Armed Forces Network? If so where are you stationed? Also, thank you for serving this great nation. I remember watching AFN when I was in the army and they used to show NHL games once in a while. During the Gulf War we befriended the people at AFN at Khobar Towers and were able to watch the Stars and Pens.

Yeah, Armed Forces Network. I'm stationed in Grand Forks, I'm just overseas right now.

  13. I won't be able to go to Denver OR watch the games at The Ralph... I didn't think I was going to be able to watch the games at all since I was deployed.

But I just found out the good news: the BC/UND game will be on @ 1000 tomorrow morning (tape delay) and the title game will be on live at 2:00am.

AFN actually got something right, thank god.

    BTW, first post :D
