So U of Mary announced they are adding ACHA DI hockey with an experienced JC coach that was already on staff. A lot of posters will disagree, but it seems Minot St and Mary are teaming up to be a pair in the WCHA and they will get support from NSIC schools and Upper Miçhigan schools. An AD doesn't typically announce the creation of a new club sport unless they are serious about it down the road for varsity, but Dale Lennon was excited about the announcement. Both Minot St and Mary haven't done much at the DII level to create excitement about athletics but a DI hockey program could excite both cities unlike DII sports. Mary would need the Bismarck Civic Center to play at least bigger games, but that would seem possible. It may take several years before it happens, but Mary isn't adding club hockey just for the fun of it. Moorhead St would have been preferred by the WCHA but Mary isn't that far off.
There is a significant ice shortage here in Bismarck. I have no idea where they are gonna play.

I agree it was the right decision but history will never remember that the only reason the vote was so one-sided was because of the "threats" that UND would not be allowed into the Big Sky and would not be able to schedule other schools because the NCAA was lobbying schools not to schedule UND.
If none of that would have been on the table and it was simply the will of the people this vote might have gone differently - I believe the will of the people was to keep the nickname but all the threats and dire predictions of doom for UND athletics overrode that.
It's still incredibly disconcerting that there are so many Native American nicknames still in use - and no it should not matter that a tribe has given its permission to a school because no one should be able to give anyone else permission to use a "racist" nickname. (oops got on the soapbox).
The "Will of the people" is not developed inside a vacuum. It is impacted by factors and consequences, both positive and negative. The idea that people should vote one way or another based only how the issue makes them feel makes for really bad policy.

Why would anyone buy these? I'm not a billboard for you, Black Clover. Shouldn't the brand logo be smaller than the team logo? WTF?
Understand the logic.
Must be a golf thing. There are tons of titleist hats with team logos on the side and Titleist big on the front.

Pathetic.
I don't understand the gleeful grave dancing that has reared its head on this board in the last 48 hours. Agree with the decision all you want (I do), but shaudenfruede is a bad look and doesn't belong anywhere in this conversation.

I've never heard Bubba or anyone on his staff publicly express a conference preference, one way or the other.. Do you have a link to a published article or podcast on this? Details from a personal conversation with Bubba or one of his assistants? I recall hearing Bubba, in a post-signing day interview last winter or the year before, saying he was surprised at the positive reaction potential recruits had to the prospect of traveling to/playing at Big Sky schools.
From September
Q. There is talk about UND changing athletic conferences. What's your preference—Missouri Valley or Big Sky?
I think the Big Sky has a lot of fun places to go play ... but both would make sense for us. If we were ever to get in and realign with South Dakota State, South Dakota and North Dakota State, it would make sense. It's a better experience for our fans, because they can travel to games. And I'm talking more than just football.
But once again, that's not my decision.
We can sell the Big Sky. When I was growing up, we wanted to kind of stay local. Now, when we tell kids we play in nine different states, they think that's really cool—going to nine different states to play.
We go to a lot of fun places to play. If you want to have fun, go to Montana State. They will cheer when you come in the lot, but their students really get after you when you come out on the field. It's a lot of fun, and it's really challenging to stay focused.

Does that band ever play In Heaven There Is No Beer at the Alerus?
To that end, why doesn't the Alerus leverage what works at The Ralph?
- When we score play Chelsea Dagger.
- Use the band the way hockey does.

Not disagreeing. Never said or expect UND to use anything "Sioux" at this point. Just per my conversation last night with this individual you MUST have everything and all things FH on it. Can't get just UND on something. Can't get the interlocking ND anymore. Not everyone in the athletic department is buying into the "mandate". Just saying......... I'm just a messenger.
Fans have every right to publicly hate, love or ignore the new nickname.
However, employees of UND who are not buying into the "mandate" need to keep there personal feelings to themselves and grow up.

Related to this, any idea what the core sports of the Summit are? I'd be surprised if it isn't at least mentioned.
Hypothetically, If Im the Summit I wouldn't let in UND unless UND restarted baseball. The league needs programs.

Bismarck Scheels has both grey and white adidas hats. I would guess other Scheels do as well?
They also have the black stocking hats.

No they did not. They can't use recruits names until they sign the letter of intent. Fortunately this blame does not go to UND this time.
I'm gonna guess they did create it and it was used in direct communication to Boltmann, who did then tweet it out himself. It appears to be a trend.

Not sure what to say re the "Douche Nozzle" comment.

Also of note, we play NDSU, USD, SDSU, and Minnesota...all on the road.
It should be noted that Fargo South's Emily Stroup will be on that Ole Miss roster.

Will signs with the Falcons. Not my favorite team but they have a huge need at LB. Seems like a good situation for him. I hope he crushes it.
One would think that Falcon fans are OK with the idea of under 6 foot LBs.

UST is a sleeping giant. As a D3 school their endowment is larger than any Summit member other than Denver. They would be a great addition.
