  1. I love the idea of having all Sioux games televised, but please, PLEASE find someone other than Pat Sweeney to do the play by play. He couldn't accurately call a turtle race. And tell Scanlon to OPEN his eyes. He always looks stoned.

  2. I can't find the game on my Direct TV at all. I am getting a little worried that I won't have it.

All else fails. Webcast here I come.

Sometimes DirecTv is a little slow, but it comes on eventually, right before the game starts... Webcast isn't an option for me so I guess it'll be the Schloss/Jayson updates through the blog.

  3. Tonight's a season changer for UND. No more mediocre Saturday nights. We're going to get some of the junk to go, out shoot them by 15, and win 4 - 2. We'll rocket up the charts and be #3 by the Christmas break. Then it's a race to the frozen 4. Go Sioux!

FightingSioux.com says the game is on FCS Atlantic on DirecTv, but the guide says no... Anyone know what's up?

  4. The one trueism of the Sioux over the last 10 years is that a solid defense produces a stellar goaltender. I look to Simpson, Marto, LaPoint, Blood and Genoway to step up their games this weekend to vault UND into another level of college hockey tonight. Kristo need a breakthrough and I think he's up to the task tonight/this weekend as well.

  5. The biggest thing in my mind that the Sioux will have to overcome is their seemingly year-in, year-out with BC. I realize Yale is first, but I hope Hak has something special up his sleeve if we wind up playing BC. GO SIOUX!! :p

  6. Fact - the only Sioux players to make an all WCHA team (1st, 2nd or 3rd) since the 05-06 class (Lee, Chorney, Duncan, Oshie Toews, etc.) are Genoway and Eidesness, no forwards.

Fact - no Sioux have made the WCHA all-rookie team since Lee and Oshie did in 05-06.

Kristo will probably be on the all-rookie team this year. I don't see us placing anyone on the all WCHA team this year.

What's happened is that the skill players brought in since 05 haven't panned out, at least not to the extent we have been used to at the beginning of the decade (Parisie, Stafford, Zajac, etc.).

This is why Brock Nelson may be here sooner than the CW believes.

Teams win championships. Who cares about individual accolades?

  7. You won't find a bigger Sioux fan west of Missoula, Montana than me! I will say however that I think the new ranking for the Sioux this week is very appropriate, if not still a bit high. The Sioux have not played as a top 5 team in some time. This is due to many reasons. I think at some level the high rank has played games with the team's head. Perhaps over confidence. Now that they're #9, the rebuilding/rethinking can begin. Hak is a strong coach. Not everyone could have done what he did his first 5 years. In fact, few have ever done so... GO SIOUX!!

  8. Does anyone know if Brad is going to be doing the live game blogs this year? Those were outstanding for those of us who aren't within radio wave distance. The internet radio is iffy at best...

  9. Whether he gets playing time or not, Congrats on getting onto the team and Good Luck Tate....you will be a nice addition to the team and wear the colors proudly....you deserve according to Hak and that is good enough for me.

Welcome Tate! Go KILL some gophers!!

  10. Heres a link showing all the players drafted in last years NHL draft from the WHL. It says 37 in total and 9 players in the first round. I personally have never watched a game but they must have some decent players if they can get that many drafted in the first round, I'm sure thats more than the NCAA had (just guessing).

Well, like I said, Spokane looked solid winning 8 -0 over Portland Friday night. The game was fast and wide open. Tokarski reminded me a lot of Goerning. Not overly big, but always positioned dead on.

  11. AZ's correct. You see some college recruits get drafted into that league but then choose to go the college route. It's an option for players, but I don't think it's quite at the level of college hockey or the more known Canadian major junior leagues.

Thanks for the info. I was expecting to see a lot of MN, MI, and WI kids on the rosters, but it's mainly western Canada kids. It's good hockey to watch, and really the only hockey to watch in this part of the country. There were, however, a lot of Sioux fans at the game. I wore my Sioux jersey and got a lot of "Go Sioux!" comments.

  12. Does anyone know anything about the Western Hockey League? I was at the Spokane Chiefs game on Friday night and, although I'm not a hockey scout, I saw what I thought was some excellently skilled players. Tokarski, Wahl, Johnson, etc. I see a lot of kids coming out of the USHL to the NCAA ranks, but very few if any from the WHL. Any ideas why this is??

  13. I thought they were playing pretty good tonight. Since getting that 4th goal though it seems they've relaxed and started letting up a bit.

This is not the time of the year to let up a bit...
