  1. Congrats to Kimbrough on the All-Indpendant honor...and to the other THREE whom were honorable mentions...I think we especially owe Danye and Kierah our thanks for using thier talents to start us off in this venture...considering Mankato is heading for the Elite 8 and Seattle Pacific was 1 game away..Ball State is in the big dance......Thank you...I know everyone is crazy about the hockey team..and good for them too, but for all of the other sports (we had 2 men on the honorable mention team!) hang in there...hopefully we will be in a legit conference soon. Great last blog tho...makes me proud to be a FIGHTING SIOUX fan!!! KK's Blog

  2. USD played North Carolina today in Chapel Hill. Pretty impressive showing by USD. USD vs NC Would have been nice if UND could have arranged something like that. Not sure how they got that scheduled with conference tournaments going on but a nice way for those 5 seniors to end their seasons...Spring Thaw was ok, but Chapel Hill?;)

  3. Sioux vs Houston Baptist

Only two players have reached that level at UND - Jenny Crouse and Ashley Langen.

My congratulations to her too. What a tremendous career! It has been a pleasure watching her and the entire Sioux team. The 2 seniors will be greatly missed. Congrats to the women also finishing the year strong with a tournament victory and going undefeated at home. All in all a great transiton year and thanks for all of your dedication and hard work...GO SIOUX!!

  4. The ladies are playing some good basketball shorthanded. Nice game for Kimbrough. We will really miss her and Guinn. I know they are having a tournament next weekend, and it's no use to think "if only", but I noticed on a D-II site that Mankato State is ranked #1 in the nation and Seattle-Pacific is in the top 10. I really think we would have had a great chance of making it to the elite 8, it really makes it hard to get excited about the next few years. I can only imagine how it is for the athletes, especially the seniors. I hope they make the tournament special for the players AND the fans. I realize that if we are making the change it has to happen at some time...I'm just not sure it was the right decision for ALL of the sports.

  5. The knee thing has certainly become an issue of late for us, but it really is an issue for girls and women's sports nationwide. Knee injuries occur with incredible more frequency to females than to men- why?

Female athletes are known to have a higher risk of injuring their ACL while participating in competitive sports. Unfortunately, understanding why women are more prone to ACL injury is unclear.

Several studies have been done, and what is well known is that in sports that place a significant demand on the ACL, such as basketball, soccer, cheerleading, and others, ACL injuries are up to ten times more common in women than in men.

It is no secret that men and women are built differently, have differently shaped skeletons, have unique body types, etc., but no one knows exactly what causes ACL injuries to be so much more common in women.

    Some theories are:

    Hormone cycles are different

Ligaments, like many other tissues, are affected by hormone levels in the body. ACL injuries are known to most commonly occur in the pre-ovulatory phase in women. Furthermore, women on oral contraceptives are thought to have a lower rate of ACL injuries than women not taking oral contraceptives.

    The ACL is shaped differently

Women have a slightly smaller ACL, on average, and the place where the ACL passes through the knee joint, the intercondylar notch, is slightly smaller. These anatomic differences may account for a greater susceptibility to ACL injury.

Women play sports in a more upright position

Men are thought to assume more of a crouching posture while playing sports such as soccer or basketball. The ACL is usually injured when the athlete is in more of an upright position. Also, women who participate in so-called neuromuscular training programs that teach balance exercises have a similar rate of ACL injury as men who did not participate in the training.

These are some of the theories, but unfortunately, no one knows exactly what causes the increased risk of ACL tears in women. More investigation is constantly taking place to better answer this question.

What is known is that women are more prone to ACL injury, and that neuromuscular training programs can lower the risk of ACL injury in female athletes.

:( Did that answer your question?:(

  6. I'm not a poster on any Bison message boards either, and I would hope that all Sioux fans avoid those places. As fun as it is to root against them, why should we grace their message boards with our presence? It only creates the illusion that we care about them as much as they care about us. Let them make fools of themselves on our site, but stay away from theirs.

    Because we can spell???

  7. Good luck to the Lady Coyotes today! I think they have a National Championship very well in hand. For the young women on the team and for a first-rate classy coach, I wish them the best. I am also looking forward to next season as at least we get a chance to play a possibly defending D-II championship team. Twice I hope. Hopefully it will help with scheduling and we do have a nice rivalry going so it something close to home to look forward to. It is also sad to see the end of the NCC, what better way to go out for a historically successful conference!

  8. I too extend my congratulations to Kimbrough & Langen. Sadly, this will probably be the last All-Americans for some time to come for our program. I'm quite sure if were remaining D-II, we'd have at least one agin next year, but maybe that makes these even more special. Good luck next season Ladies. I think we can still prove how special this program is.

  9. In what could be considered another upset, Alaska-Anchorage beats undefeated Seattle-Pacific to go to the Elite Eight. Congrats to the Coyotes. They started off a little cold, but poured it on in the end. Kimbrough named to the 5 member Regional Tournament team. Pretty remarkable as UND lost in the quarterfinals. Congrats to her too.

  10. I too was very let down with the Sioux loss to Wayne State. Although I do agree with some comments here, some of them are ridiculous, bordering on mean.

    • The fake tan/jersey fitting comment is ridiculous. What does that mean? Jerseys get untucked when people grab them and refs tell you to tuck them back in. The tan comment is just stupid.
    • How do we know what goes on in practice/huddles or even their lives for that matter. Is there a problems with team relations or parents getting along?
    • We are upset by the talent of our bench, but we shouldn't hold a coach accountable? Is the coach not responsible for recruiting such talent (or non-talent?) IMO it is a coach's responsibilty to motivate a team or settle a team down as well as guide them. Are you implying the team doesn't listen? I can't see Roebuck putting up with that. I do think that eventhough a coach doesn't play, he calls the shots. our lack of playing zone has killed us for years...that's not the players choice.
    • We think the team choked and are upset by that. Do any of you watch sports on a regular basis? Upsets or "chokes" happen all of the time. it's March maddness, you'll probably hear of one or more a day for the next 2 weeks. It is not just UND suffering from this.

We played a horrible game at the worst possible time. Tournament time. That's sports. To say that a team who sacraficed an ENTIRE year to work for it didn't care is insulting. I don't know what goes on in practice, etc, but to say they lack work ethic, unless you have info to the contrary, is odd to me. This was the last chance to play for something for a long time for ALL of these girls, not just the seniors. I would say they probably wanted this pretty bad. The team we have left will have a tough road and I would hope we will cheer for them and support them. I agree that some of our players did not play up to their ability, but I don't think it is because they didn't care. There were some bright spots. Kimbrough's play especially. It will be interesting to see how she does at a higher level. She had great tournament play. I thought Beck played well too. I thought Bergan played well off the bench. We will need some good recruits, guards and some help inside, but that will be hard with our situation. I hope this board doesn't turn into a bash-fest for these young women who are really sacraficing a chance to play for anything to bring UND through the transition. Congrats on a good year and I'll be cheering you on next year!

  11. I definately sense that UND fans just can't come to the realization that USD is the better team this year. It's not going to get any easier either. I feel USD has the easier bracket and the fans will be even more charged up for the regional. Past history of what UND has done is not going to make any difference what happens at the dome this weekend. USD has just wanted it more so far this year and they have come up big time and time against especially in crunch time.

If I may borrow some sarcasm from one of your previous posts, perhaps with fuel prices as high as they are, UND should not even waste their time in making the trip to Vermillion because we don't have a prayer. The big, bad Coyote team is just too much for us. I have a sense that you don't understand the long tradition of fan support that UND has and I would bet a much bigger base of support for the regional tournament. After listening to the game on Sunday, I would not say USD is the obvious better team. Both teams have there strengths and anything can happen. Lets just hope they both take one game at a time and get the chance to meet up again. These 3 wins over the Sioux won't mean a thing if they can't pull off the big one. I for one will look forward to it and have all the confidence in the world in our Fighting Sioux!

  12. Roebuck did not want the women on the floor when the USD fans rushed the floor. They returned after a quick trip to the locker room.

The boo birds could be heard on the radio. USD cut down the nets. UND has never done that after a conference championship.

Good....I want the Sioux women to get new nets next Monday!! :D:D

  13. Defense...Defense...Defense...Defense...Defense............................

That argument is getting a liitle old. When you're only playing 25 minutes per game..you're not the one losing it on defense...even if you can still score. Look at the stats...sitting Kimbrough isn't working..especially against USD! She does...I'd hope you'd agree...provide offense.

  14. The sioux got out played and out coached by USD. USD has our number because we play the same all the time. No accountability, lack of energy and too many turnovers at critical times. Kimbrough only played 25 minutes and she was 10 for 14 why... Seay played scared and senior Beck played scared and had too many turnovers. This is crunch time I think Coach Roebuck needs to figure it out. I heard Tubby Smith say last week that his team has had too many tournovers and lacked energy and that he was going to make some changes boy does that sound familiar. We will be OK just need alittle adjustment.

Kimbrough averaged almost 30 minutes per conference game last season and this year she is averaging about 5 minutes less PER game. The scoring stats are about the same which is impressive considering less playing time and rebounds are down slightly. I've read here that she has asthma, so has it gotten worse since last year or is there something else going on...I too do not understand leaving a leading scorer on the bench.

  15. As mentioned in the men's basketball forum, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader has compiled a list of the top five NCC era players at Augie, USD and SDSU. Who would be on such a list for UND? This is extremely tough! I'll say (in no particular order):

    Jenny Crouse

    Sheri Kleinsasser

    Durene Heisler

and here's when it gets really hard.

A really good case could be made for any of the following:

    Whitney Meier

    Theresa LeCuyer

    Tiffany Pudenz

    Jaime Pudenz

    Kristi Boese

    Katie Richards

    Ashley Langen

    Kierah Kimbrough

    Becky Moen

    Marisa Leighton

Considering Ashley Langen is going to end up as the all-time second leading scorer, and quite possibly the all-time rebounding leader, can she really be left off? LeCuyer was the national player of the year, but she was only at UND two years (as was Meier). How much more would have Richards and the Pudenz sisters have scored had they not been on teams with so many great players? I honestly can't come up with a list of just five.

Considering Kimbrough has a year left..(without the other great player inside) and doesn't get to play D-II next year and will presumably match or pass some of these other fine players..can she really be left off?? I personally think this is a dumb topic...comparing apples to oranges...different offenses...different defenses...different teams...(assists, how they were played, etc) UND has been blessed by the WBB angel!
