Once the game ends, how long does it take for that game to be available on demand? Anyone have any idea? For years i have DVR'ed the games and watched them after kids go to bed. We don't have cable any longer, so I am relying on watching online. Obviously it can be different from game to game - but- on average?

A quick word on the "prevent defense" and the "bad coaching" that we overcame to win. ESPN showed and discussed a graphic at or near the end of the second period that said something like: UND is 69-0-5 the past three years when leading after two periods ( i don't know if it is accurate - I am just telling you what they said). Cut to the third period - Denver scores and the same announcers (and MANNNNNY UND fans) can't believe how dumb our 69-0-5 coaches are.
Some people should try to shut-up more.

Don't like this at all but that seems to be the way that everybody found out.
I am surprised at the number of people who are surprised he didn't tell the players. The moment he agreed to take the position, he answered to a new boss. If that boss says don't tell anyone because WE (the flyers) want to control the announcement - that is what he had to do. There is no other option. I would sure think the players understand this. Even if they are shocked, I guarantee they understand it.
The only alternative theory is to believe that he just DGAF about UND and their players so chose not to tell them.
Hak to his wife last night: " Looks like I will be announced as the Flyers new head coach tomorrow a.m.!"
Wife: Great ! I suppose you better have a team meeting and let the players know, huh?
Hak: Who?
Wife: the team...you gotta tell them
Hak: I don't follow
Wife: The hockey team, Dave. The kids you have recruited, mentored, coached and spent hundreds and hundreds of hours with over the years.
Hak: Right... of course... those guys... well I am sure they will find out eventually.
Wife: But don't you think YOU should tell them?
Hak: I work in the NHL now. The BIGS. The SHOW... I don't spend my time with a bunch of wanna-be's.

I'd say it's. 60% big game
Sounds about right. I had this game at 45% huge - or 35% gigantic. So I would say 60% big is about right. Might be closer to 50% big but definitely not 75% big. By comparison last weekends games were 97% big and the Manitoba game was about 18% big. Which just goes to prove the old addage: " There are no small or medium games in college hockey; only varying degrees of bigness."

The question is do we give him till the end of the season to win his first title? Or should we only give him till Christmas break to win number 8. I'm in the camp that says, one more loss Hak and you're done..... or two ties whichever comes first.

I doubt the streaming server itself is at UND. I would imagine it is similar to how B2 handles their streams. The host school connects to the b2 server and sends the streaming video via Flash Media Encoder. The b2 servers then handle all of bandwidth of having thousands of viewers login to watch an HD feed. It would get expensive for NeuLion to have a dedicated server at each host institution. Much cheaper and more reliable to have a server hub that all of the schools send their feed to.
This is correct. No dedicated servers on site. Matter of fact I believe Neulion doesn't have their own servers either. It looks like they partner with Akamai, Limelight and a few others to handle their streams. Akamia and Limelight are absolute monsters of streaming capacity (handling streams for Netflix and Hulu, thousands of others). I am not 100% sure on the whole arrangement, but it likely works like this:
Neulion exists as a way for their customers to monetize their streams. Think of it this way: they are a middle-man of sorts, so when UND needs a way to stream their games, UND doesn't really have to worry about the encoding,transmitting, bandwidth, etc. Instead, UND goes to a company like Neulion and tells them what they are looking for. Neulion arranges the rest and provides a link back to UND. That is over-simplified, but I think it gives a general idea.
One of the main customers for Neulion is NHL. The NHL streams every game (with few exceptions) and mostly in HD. This amount of bandwidth is only a tiny fraction of what the Akamai or Lilmelight servers provide. So you can really forget about bandwidth from UND or Neulion being an issue.
That doesn't mean there will be no problems. As with any data streaming, the real performance issues are what they call "last-mile" issues - because most performance issues originate within one mile of your home. Either with the internet service providers or (most often) with the modems,cables,pc's, laptops, etc that are actually getting the signal. These are things that are out of the providers' control. BUT - for the most part, this is getting better and better as we update our electronics at home.
You can be sure that there will be at least some people who will have some problems with watching the games "on the internet" (video lagging and stuttering etc) - but for most people, most of the time, my guess is we are going to be impressed.
You don't have to like it, or get used to it - but more and more programming is going to be available this way. It might be a while before it is as "idiot-proof" as hooking up a co-axial cable to a TV - but that ship has sailed. Technology benefits those who fight it the least. The good news is it won't be long before there won't be a need to hook up additional equipment to watch internet on your TV. For example, there are already literally millions of people watching things like NHL, netflix, hulu, HBO-Go on their TV's by using a wireless enabled "smart" tv or through a wirelss enabled DVD/blueray player, PS3, X-box, Roku,Apple TV and so on. It will be a short time before you can add Sioux games to that list.
I hate the fact that our TV contract is "going backwards" in terms of exposure or ease of use. I hate the fact that this is the last season of the WCHA as we know it. But a LOT of things changed when the BIG got formed...it sucks - but we will get past it.

this series has nailbiter written all over it. fri 2-1 take your pick and sat 1-1. we will continue to struggle to score as we can't seem to figure out how to play teams that clog up the middle. the book is out on us, clog up the middle and wait for a defensive lapse on our end is the recipe to defeat UND.

No offense, but isn't this like saying we need good goal tending and special teams play to be able to win? Something that everybody tries to do against every team that -if it works - will help you win? I'm not sayin'...I'm just sayin'. -
I like having fans from other teams around. I don't understand the "Go back to GPL so I can talk to someone I agree with" mentality. Sure they can be annoying, but if NOT being annoying was a criteria for posting here...
I say welcome them all in. Make fun of them and put up with their Olive Garden jokes (mmmm Olive Garden), argue, discuss and point out how wrong they are... but FFS stop telling them to leave. I mean, it is your right to tell them that - but having them here keeps the threads moving and keeps things....interesting.
Just my opinion...thought I'd share it. Gotta go, I just heard there is a real-live tree growing by Devils Lake. I gotta see this.

I bet you're damn glad this isn't the final 5.
Hmmmm tough call. They could be gald it isn't the Final 5, because if it was, it would mean an inevitable egg laying. But on the other hand it would mean they actually made the conference tournament two years in row.
Don't get me wrong, I really hope they do make the final 5 this year..gets boring without them there year after year. It is great when they do make it. Then you get to witness first had all the passionate Goph fans that show up to cheer (when they aren't too busy looking at their phones).

Actually UMD wanted to play the Gophers to open Amsoil but the Gophers had the Classic already scheduled. So they had to settle for UND.
This is actually easy for me to believe. If I wanted to not get my butt kicked, yet have a good turn out, scheduling the Gophs makes good sense. My second choice would be settling for just having a good turn-out.

It' OK with me for these teams (fanbases) to hate ours ... it helps add some fuel for our ass-kickin machine, and makes for some good message-board fodder. But jeebus, they should at least try and motivate their fans to hate us by honest means. Maybe try some logic and reasoning. Or...just make something up completely: "Hey, make sure you make it to the games this weekend against UND... word has it they are all descendants of Osama Bin Laden and are planning to steal our Christmas presents on the way out of town!"
But using some half-truths and conspiracy theories... I doubt their fans will fall for it.
BTW Brandon: once it was apparent there was a NEED to form a new conference and the membership was being determined...most Sioux fans were lobbying for MTU over St. Cloud. Most MTU fans probably already know that, and they probably know that UND really isn't the reason for your "problem". But, carry on ... we can always use more fuel for the ass-kicker.

There is a good chance its going to be a blurry mess and I will probably complain about it afterward...but I can't help myself. MUST HAVE VIDEO. I get it though... money is tight and it is the priciple of the matter. I am just not strong enough to resist I guess.

If I may play devil's advocate here, Mike Guentzel was away from the Gopher program for 5 years but he made an immediate and obvious difference in the Gophers D last year. So if UND's defensive unit isn't performing up to par yet than I think Sioux fans have a right to be concerned and even critical of Berry up to this point.
I think this is where someone mentions how bad John Hill was, followed immediately by someone else mentioning how good they thought he was. Just thought I would jump in and sum it up quickly so we do not have to go through the same joke three times this month.

I believe we don't have all the information about how the decision was made... or maybe we do and I am really dense (good possibility). I just flat out refuse to believe Minnesota is dodging anyone. Hate them all you want (i know I do) - but the notion they are "scared" is laughable to me. And, I find it hard to believe there are people who actually believe they are trying to hide. While it may be true, they may have chosen to play others instead of us, there could be motivations that are more believable than "I guess they must be scared". This does not, by the way, mean that their other reasons are completely justified... I can't say because I don't know what they are.
I can understand if a person is having an "exchange" with a Gopher fan, and you bring it up to them, just to get under the skin.

"Well at least we aren't scared to play tough teams."
But that, to me, is different than actually believing it is true.
I know what Lucia said, (at least what others have said that he said). But I just believe there is more to the decision than "UND is too rough and tough so we are going to avoid them". DOES NOT COMPUTE.

I'm a little surprised that Panz is sitting. Might be time for Gleason to sit for a game and give Panz a shot.
Speedy defenseman who is great at going end to end but is a defensive liability at times. Sounds familiar - doesn't it?
What suprises me is how much Gleason is getting noticed for mistakes, while (IMO) Mattson has looked worse and gets little mention? FWIW - I like Arthur Panzerelli and would also like to see him get some time. But I think the right move right now is to not make any. There is still reason to believe the errors in our end can be corrected by better decisions. Leave the most talented guys in until you are absolutley certain their shortcomings can't/won't be cured by a good "get your head out of your a$$" paint-peeling. I think it is early enough to do that....right?

After seeing the winning percentage data compiled, If found it difficult to form many conclusions that allowed me to keep complaining. SO - I decided to add in a few more parameters to the data-sets. For those who want to keep track at home, here are just a few of the parameters I used for my analysis:
- Win percentage versus teams that have a mammal that hibernates as their mascot.
- Win percentage in years that the previous years American Idol winner is male.
- Win percentage on weekends that are shared with a James Bond movie premiere.
- Road wins in cities that have mortgage defaults greater than 18%.
- Home win percentage during games wherein the visiting head coach forgets how to get to the locker room.
- A few others that seemed kind of pointless after I thought about them for a while
I would post the results, but I am not gonna lie...they didn't make a lot of sense. But I was able to draw a few definate conclusions that were startling.
- Winning is pretty much awesome.
- Losing is significantly less awesome.
- The suck factor of losing, and the awesomeness coefficient of winning, are almost always independant of whether the wins or losses happen on friday vs. saturday but are highly dependant on wether or not they happen during november vs. March.
- The gophers suck no matter what their record is.
- Our success or (lack of it) is helped (or hindered) by the strength (or weakness)of the other teams in our conference. The line between winning and losing is probably alot thinner than most of us realize.
- Denver is nearly identical to Minnesota in the sense that they suck regardless of record. Hard to believe - but it is science. Look it up.
*** Disclaimer: Don't get me wrong, I am not a person that gets mad when someone posts an early season poll, or a theorizes about the cause of our problems early in the season. I actually am just always glad when there is SOME kind of traffic on the forum. Helps pass the day.
