  1. I was at the Saturday night game in Omaha. Have been following closely the past several years when UND still had TV contract and have seen some poor performances, but Saturday night took the cake. Badly outshot in period 1, Gothburg gave up a ridiculous goal from somebody shooting it from the corner. (I would have taken him out and told him to get his act together.) They started to finally get a little physical in the second and that gave UND a little momentum. Worst part of the performance was D-Men constantly getting mesmorized by the puck and the poke check and then watching guys dance by them. Haven't learned to take the body at all. This is what led to the 3rd and winning goal by Omaha. They lost a lot apparently when they dumped Eades to go with Berry.

  2. UND should have never been a party to this league TV deal and should have stayed in the WCHA if this is the way this new league wanted to do things. The people who run UND these days don't seem to have a clue about what a loyal alumni base they had and were growing because of UND hockey.

  3. I am no fan of Gwaz, but have to admit he is a very good college hockey coach. We have had quite a rivalry with him over the years. I remember seeing a video of him on this website presenting at a Sioux boosters lunch in Grand Forks prior to a Sioux - Pioneer series and running into him one time during the 2007 regional tournament in Denver. He was always nothing but complimentary to the Sioux hockey program, although it may not have seemed that way during the heat of battle. DU is going to miss him - I hope he stays in the WCHA somehow. He is good for the league and good for hockey.

  4. For some reason I want to say that it's because the NCAA only allows you to have three coaches on the payroll, most of the time teams go with a head coach and two assistants. Therefore goalie coaches are usually on a volunteer basis. I could be completely wrong however.

There was a big feature story in the Denver Post this past week in connection with Denver opening up in the national tournament. The gist of the article was the fact that DU has employed a goalie coach for the past several (like 10) years. They also quoted some of the goalies who have gone through the system as essentially saying they learned more about goaltending at DU than they had in their pre-college years or during their pro careers. Gwozdecky said he would always keep a goalie coach on staff. Gwoz maintains that the national tournament is a goaltending tournament. It is hard to argue against that year in, year out DU has had the best goaltending in the WCHA for several years. Dubawitz, Mannino, Berkhoel, Cheverie and others have been very good for them. I think Sioux have had suspect, inconsistent goaltending ever since Goering graduated. I would be curious to know just what kind of coaching the goaltenders at UND get or for that matter what kind of expertise the coaching staff has in picking goalies. I didn't have much faith in Parise or Lammy ability to steal a tournament like some of the DU goalies have done.

  5. they need to have Fox Sports Net North

Dish or DirecTv and most sports bars would have the multi-sport package that gets the FSN Networks from across the US

Everybody recheck your cable schedules. The DU - Wis game will now be shown on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain in Colorado and also on FCSC channel 414 for those who have the sports tier package. The other semifinal game with Sioux will also be shown tonite on FCSC as well as the championship game on Saturday. Don't know if this is the result of my badgering Fox Sports in LA, but they have updated the schedule to include the remainder of the tournament.

  6. Same deal here in Denver although now they've added some of the tournament on a delayed basis. I've contacted Fox Sports in LA and they say they will respond to me, but so far nothing. Looks like I might have to switch from Comcast to a satellite service in order to get Fox Sports North directly rather than a feed from one of the other Fox Sports affiliates like we've gotten in the past in Denver.

  7. Unfortunately, I checked the local schedule for Comcast Cable here in Boston (I have the Sports Pack with all of the Fox College Sports stations), and the semi-final and championship games are not listed. During the Sioux semi-final game on Friday, we're getting the feed to a high school hockey quarter-final game out of Wisconsin! I've sent off an email so will see if I get a response. I have little hope of getting a sports bar to change a channel Friday night even if they have the right feed due to March Madness.

Does anyone have information about a webcast of the Final Five games?

  8. For the past several years in Denver I got every WCHA Final 5 game on one of the college sports tier channels. Just checked ahead on the guide to set the DVR and don't see any of the games listed. Anybody know what's going on with TV this year?

  9. Anybody else having trouble with the Sioux-xtra website?? It is really slow and won't load the event for me.

won't work here in Denver either. their server must be overloaded or messed up

  10. This year you are absolutely right. However, historically, I disagree. You don't gather something like 39 or 40 DI titles as a conference by simply being all tough during the regular seasons.

From where I sat, Sioux got beat by a faster team, but also one that outworked and out physicaled them on the boards and beat them to pucks. Just a better team, at least today- and probably most days.

  11. Mannino always seems to play well against our SIOUX, hope the boys bury'em early and often. Without Trotter the pioneers looked lost offensively, especially Friday. Is Ruegsegger(sp?) a go for this weekend? Why was he sidelined in the first place?

    Hey, buddy buddy

    Yeah? buddy buddy

    Woah! buddy buddy

    LETS GO SIOUX!!!!!! :silly:

Having watched DU beat Gophers rather handily last night, I think they looked anything but lost. They played with a lot of intensity and in many ways remind me of the Sioux. Overall, a young team but play with great energy and have superior goaltending. Sioux will need to bring everything they have to win against DU.

  13. The East regional with BU, Mercyhurst, and BC in 05; Michigan, MN and Holy Cross in 06. You've got last years; the 06 at GF turned out a bit easier than expected, with the HC win in the first round.

    Thanks

  14. Today's Denver newspaper analyzing the prospects for the Frozen 4 said that Nodak had favorable/lucky regional pairings in the last 3 regionals leading up to their Frozen 4 appearances under Coach Hakstol. I did not consider coming to Denver last year to face Michigan and Minnesota any kind of break. I also seem to recall the Sioux having to go out to Mass to face both BU and BC on essentially home ice for them a few years back. Can anybody tell me what the regional schedules were for the two years prior to last year under Coach Hakstol?
