  1. Brock leaving UND hurt. Still bitter over that. That was tough to swallow. I wonder if he would have netted 40 goals had he decided to play his junior year. When he had 28 as a Sophomore he had so many chances and breakaways it was nuts. He probably should have had 35 goals as a Sophomore if he finished more on a few. :-) Setiously !

Didn't he have 5 or 6 empty netters? Puck always seems to find the goal scorers.

  2. Though all the penalties were frustrating they were trying to clean up what has been complained about for years. There was only one penalty I saw that I didn't understand. As long as they stay consistent it should benefit this team with the speed it has.

I agree with some of those questioning OD and Mitch but trying to evaluate those that didn't play on pp or pk is tough from this game. I think the forward lines stay mostly the same because of this. Schmaltz back in and Thompson will rotate through. I wouldn't mind seeing Clarke start tonight just for confidence. We'll need him later but Zane is the guy.

  3. I looked back a little bit. Zach Parise did not have letter.

Looking back to about 1980, I only see about four people who may have had letters as sophmores.

    Toews

Ian Kidd - the list of captains I am looking him having letters both years he was here but it looks funny so I wouldn't be surprised if that is wrong.

    Marc Chorney

Hak - Not sure if he really counts though, he was only here for two and a half years. What was the deal with his eligibility?

  4. Pattyn deserves the "C" with Simpson a close second choice, but will definitely be an "A". I would say the scond "A" is up in the air and I would not be surprised if St. Clair is not in the running. I think he will be an everyday player and may be moved up to a second line role. Not easy to sit out a whole year and try to get your legs. That commitment is a real positive and I am sure is noticed in the locker room.

    I'd go with

    2013 - Simpson

    2014 - Pattyn

    2015 - St Clair

Not saying St Clair should or shouldn't get a letter next year but who were sophmores to get letters? I know Toews had an "A" and didn't Z Par too? That has got to be pretty elite company.

  5. I thought for the most part schmaltz played pretty well down the stretch.

    Agree.

About half way through the year I told others that I thought that if Schmaltz stays long enough, he will be the best 2-way dman we've had in awhile. He has a ways to go but for a two way freshman I thought he played well.

  6. Didn't see the hit, but when you check, you don't keep both of your arms straight down at your side, you follow through. Again, won't comment on this situation, but if following through is illegal, then MacWilliam deserved to be booted against Boston University because even though he initially hit the guy with his body, his arm came through after and made contact with the head.

Agree 100%. People who get excited about players whose feet come off the ground AFTER a collision drive be crazy. Energy will take the path of least resistance and often times that is UP.

  7. When they came out with the major for contact to the head, my cinical first response was to have everyone skate with their head down because no one could hit them.

If Trouba had just been standing in the guys way and braced for the hit the opponent, by lower his head, would have run his head into Trouba's elbow and gotten blown up because he had no idea what was in front of him.

I think it was a clean hit. He certainly didn't lead with his elbow out. Contact to the head certainly, but whose fault was that? I put it more on the guy skating with his head down.

  8. I couldn't find my original Wallpaper thread from a couple years ago, but I added a Media page to sioux-jersey.com which will feature wallpapers for your computer/phone and any other neat stuff I decide to put together.

There's only a few on there now, but feel free to check it out and let me know what you think. There will be more new stuff as time goes on, so keep checking back.

I was thinking about your wallpaper's a couple of weeks ago. Love the grunge tiles.

  9. Last weekend was the first "real" weekend for this team. I was more than happy last week with the development they showed on Friday from the ealier games I have seen. Certainly Saturday wasn't as good but was that more because of us or them? I don't know that but I do know that it is stil OCTOBER and getting better is a process.

If they handed out trophies in October UMtc would have like a billion of them! :whistling:

  10. When Hak moved Rocco w Knight and Kristo late in game and in OT it was a total mismatch with chances all over the place. Reminded me in talent of DOT line to an extent.

O'Donnell isn't the answer on that top line.

I would roll that top line this weekend with Rocco! UND has a nice crop of forwards and I don't think loading up hurts them at all. Those 3 together could be a 150 point line causing nightmares on a weekend basis.

I like Rocco on the third line until the bench gets shortened because any line he is on becomes a scoring line. He is a match up problem by himself and I think that taking him off the third line makes the match up easier on the opposition. What you would gain in the match up on the first line you would more than lose in the third line match .up

The line I would like to see changed is the PP. In all honesty, I have been pretty critical of Kristo's play but putting him on the point takes so many of his strenghts away from him. And with the way Forbert has been getting the puck to the net I would like to see him out there with Knight, Kristo, Rocco and either Simpson or Schmaltz.

  11. Bochenski had a great shot. that's what made him good in college when his skating was a little suspect. just my opinion tho.

I'm a little sketchy in the details but I think the story was about Kozek and his shot and they asked the goalie about the heaviest shot they faced in college and it was Bochenski's.

I want to say that the goalie was Lamoureux but he didn't play the same time as Bochenski, maybe it was from summer or practice. Parise play against them both but I still think it was Phil.

  12. Can anyone remember any former Sioux centerman comparable to Knight?? The 2 way play is like most Sioux forwards but the face off% is what seperates him from many.

Knight broke ZPar's face off% record two years ago. I think certainly they are different types of players but both with very solid all around games.

  13. Yes along with Gaarder, Pattyn and Kristo. Parks too if he is still hurt.

Thanks...I didn't remember him... I knew there were other suspensions but was thinking that Kristo was the only one out on Saturday. I didn't realize they spread out the suspensions across both days.
