  1. I take the loss as hard as any fan here, but like some have implied on this post, we as fans do not have 1/100 of the emotional and physical investment of, say, a Joe Finley or Chay Genoway, in the game played yesterday. Some of these seniors will never play a "meaningful" hockey game again in their life. And that may be hard to live with for quite some time. Those are the guys I feel most for. I've been there , I've coached kids who've been there and I see it all the time. It is like soomething has been taken from your life. We fans are fortunate to have the '09-'10 season to look forward to. And next years team will be better than this year. For the players, this "team" will never be again.

Having a good deal of coaching experience, I recognize the behavior of some of these some of the ranters on this site. They are the guys (or gals) who break their hockey sticks in the locker room, refuse to shake hands after the game, get in a fight with a teammate, or trash the locker room. It's all about having class in defeat. Or maybe they never understood the effort and heart required to play a meaningful game in front of thousands.

I hope you, who chose to blame a guy all sweated up who put his heart out there for a goal with 0.1 seconds on the clock, never get the opportunity to coach a youth team. For the sake of the kids. That 0.1 second ticks off before the goal and these same ranters would be strutting how the Sioux survived a close one but will be ready for BU this afternoon.

This '08-'09 version of the Fighting Sioux has made my winter. Looking forward to the Friday game makes my work week go much faster. And I thank all the players current and former for the efforts they've made for my entertaineemnt and enjoyment. Best of luck in all future endeavors, hockey related or not.

    Now my rant is done:

    Go Sioux!

Well said! Finally, a Voice of Reason....... :(

  2. UND played well against both UMD and UNH. They could have easily won both games.

Well, except for the fact that our boys couldn't score a single goal against UMD that night in a 3-0 shutout.....

The UNH game, however, could, and SHOULD, have been won by the Sioux!

  3. The only thing I wanted from Joe Finley was to play his position correctly when the game was on the line...

Frustrating to see him play his season's worst, all in 15.1 seconds of gametime. The guys a turtle on the ice - if he can't muscle people out of the way, what's the point of him getting playing time?

    Just VERY frustrating.....

  4. Joe Finley with the exclamation point on a bust of a career. I will miss his glacier-like speed everytime we lose to a Hockey East team in the National tournament. I will miss not having a 6'7" 250lb guy that never once dropped his gloves in 4 years at UND. I will miss hearing from all of his apologists that think he actually turned away good pro offers to come back to UND. He is Hal Gill minus some speed and minus a lot of toughness. Have fun in the AHL.

Finley should have dropped the gloves and gone after that cocky a$$ LeBlanc, after he whipped out his "six shooters" at center ice to celebrate his OT goal.....

  5. Jim does an excellent job, in my opinion. Plus, it's HIS forum, he can do as he pleases. If he want's to write a 4 page essay on why he thinks Taz Boy posts contribute to Global Warming, force format all my text in lavender and change "Taz" to "Sissy" he is more than welcome to do it. In fact, I'm surprised this hasn't happened, but I suspect it has something to do with time and better things to do and such.

Hakstol is a public figure and criticism goes along with the territory. I don't think he needs your defense.

taz sissy, hey, what's happening here???

    A few thoughts:

    1. I agree that the mods are doing fine - some posts/threads are moronic, but that's part of what you see in public forums, and if you don't like the thread ... DON'T READ (OR POST REPEATEDLY!) IN IT! If I was Jim, I'd ban some of the people bashing him, ad nauseum, for "not doing his job" - it's HIS forum, if you're not happy here, start your own! Personal attacks should NOT be tolerated, I agree. But honestly, how much censorship should the mods be expected (or WANTED) to do?

    2. I can't believe this thread has grown to TWELVE PAGES! I honestly took the opening post as a joke! "Fire the whole staff" of the most successful program in the nation is just laughable! With Hak's record here, he could write his own ticket anywhere, but we're lucky that here is where he wants to be, and I hope he stays here until he retires! Maybe the originator was serious, and for those who think likewise, I just shake my head and wonder what color the sky is in your world......

    3. I get tired of the bandwagon jumpers, too, but it's a BIG bandwagon, and we're all here to cheer on our favorite team, so "can't we just all get along?" I get more angered at ad hominum attacks between posters than I do at frustrated fans that vent that anger in an occasional post ripping on the team (as long as they don't go overboard - you wanna just come on here and bash the Sioux, then please leave and join GPL!)

    4. Finally, although I was frustrated and terribly disappointed in their final game, I'm reminded of how lucky I am to be a Sioux fan, following the tradition of greatness that we have! And while we'll certainly lose some GREAT talent again this year, we have more GREAT talent coming in, and we'll have another shot at "#8" next year!

Now, back to my "lerker" mode, while I read more positive threads of praise for our boys in green!

    SA

  6. The Gophers are such a soft team, that's why they didn't do anything back. Plus, I'm sure the Gophers did something on the ice that caused them to run into Kangas a handful of times, so it was justified.

If you're not being sarcastic, then you've just posted the dumbest thing I've read in a long time! Crashing the goalie is never justified, period.

  7. Good grief, take the needle out of your arm Addict!!!

I'm a fan of more than one team. Granted I am an obsessed Fighting Sioux hockey fan as anyone on this board with a membership more than six months old will tell you. And, I know for a fact (because a Holy Cross player told me) my obsession is a virtue which will get me into heaven. I guess since your a 'one' team addict, chances are I won't see you there. For which I thank the good Lord and (the) Holy Cross!!!!

I'm not a 'dude' but I would bet that I'm more of a 'man' than you. Let me let you in a on little secret. Attacking a team like Holy Cross while hiding behind the anonymity of a sports forum doesn't make you a 'man'. It just shows the rest of the members what a little, uhm, dink you truly are.

Don't like reading about Holy Cross? Then get your fat a$$ out of this thread!

Congrats on your self-admitted hermaphroditism, lard-butt!

Wallow in your pen... that is, Gopher-envy, oh small-minded one! I'm sure a good shrink would have a field day with you, "dude!"

  8. As a Sioux fan, this post has offended me. That "little program" was the cause of the biggest upset in NCAA hockey history. That game gave Sioux fans one of the best nights of hockey in REA history!!!

Your arrogance is befitting of a Gopher fan.........

How OLD are you, 12? "One of the best nights of hockey in REA history?" Obsession is an illness, NOT a virtue! Your "best night of hockey" was an embarassing upset of the Gophers, something the Sioux had nothing to do with? MY "best night of hockey" is a Sioux win in an important game, or, better, a championship - but yours? ...... You need to get out more, dude!

This condescension toward Holy Cross, the "Little Sisters of the Poor" of college hockey is amusing, though! "Oh, please keep posting here about your team and players, because we CARE about you so much!!!" LOL

I hope the Sioux can charge through these 4 games, and hang a new banner at the Ralph - something positive that we can celebrate, instead of only being able to say, "Well, at least WE didn't lose to #15 seed!!!" THAT's what "offends" me - the Holy Cross thing was funny, for awhile, but this just makes us look like Gopher-wannabes, with nothing to counter their recent NC's (they've won 2 since our last), hanging onto some lame memory like this! Like a 12 year old!

  9. sorry, i still say they are just the team that beat minnesota...........thats not slamming them because i know the coach has to look at it like that but thats just how i look at it. sure hope they have another good year and make another NC$$ tourney.

Amen! Is this thread still going?

No offense, Holy Cross, but while you gave us a good laugh at the Gophers, it's not like your little program can even pretend to be on the same plane as the Sioux and other perennial NCAA powerhouses!

Thanks for the fun, though! (You do have spiffy jerseys!)

  10. pstar, take your b.s. elsewhere. You do not hope that the Sioux beat Michigan.

You would much rather have your blondies play Michigan rather than North Dakota

for any number of reasons. Big Gopher win over Michigan back in December.

Gopher fans fear their team having to play the Sioux.

It will be a tough game. Red is a solid coach and will have his boys ready.

North Dakota will be ready as always.

FWIIW, I hope that Air Force bombs the Gophers back to their days of mediocrity.

It could happen. Here is saying that it will.

Really? Not me! I want another shot at the Gophs! Besides, a run to the NC would be nice to include a thrashing of both Michigan AND the Gophs! (Who wants to go through a "powder puff" team like Air Force, en rout to a championship???)

    GO SIOUX!!!!!

  11. He did call the fans ignorant, and not knowing anything about hockey. This from a coach who plays the Sioux every year, and knows what the atmosphere is like at the Ralph. Did you watch the HC game last year? It would make complete sense of what he said if you had seen it.

Please READ the post that you quoted again, and then see if you can understand that your post makes no sense at all.

I don't have any love for Lucia (unless he'd decide to come coach at UND!), but I thought that what he said AFTER the Holy Cross debacle, and in the MN Wild interview, was pretty classy. He wasn't "blaming" anyone for the loss, just stating the obvious: Fans of upper echelon teams (and yes, the Gophers are there as well as our Sioux are) expect to NEVER lose to a no-name team like Holy Cross.

But $hit happens, and despite fans' expectations, upsets do happen. (Fortunately, upsets of THAT epic proportion have only happened to the Gophers!)

No, let's go take care of those skunk-helmeted Wolverine, tomorrow, and THEN focus attention on the field rodents!

    GO SIOUX!!!!!

  12. I said, "I know that there are MANY (majority, I hope!) thoughtful, intelligent, and rationale Sioux fans - this thread just seems to be devoid of them. "

Hi-de-ho SiouxAddict! You shore do have a purr-ty mouth!

Thanks for making my point! :)

  13. This guy and bear man are spittin' images of each other. A couple of "the world should be a nice place with fuzzy bunnies and rainbows for everyone" kind of guys. Moral barometers, if you will. They are more worried about what people post, than they are about hockey. Allow me to steal one of you very own phrases here Hab. A couple of mint julep sipping twinkies.

So, the only 2 choices for the forum, in your opinion, are for "bunny huggers," or ignorant rednecks? Hmmmm ... tough choice!

My point is that threads like this one deteriorate into such ridiculous hatefests, when I thought that this was a hockey forum! Sorry, my mistake.

It's NOT that I'm "offended" by these posts - they just make Sioux fans look like uninformed morons, who can't get over obsessing over another team's successes. Do we really want Sioux fans to look like Arkansas hillbillies? I don't!

  14. I'm confused...

Why would someone with the ID of SiouxAddict be a Gopher fan?

    You're wrong - I'm a life-long Sioux fan!

But moronic comments like "here is absolutely no integrity in their program so why would anyone expect it from their fans. A waste of time to debate this one." just makes us look stupid. Like the caricature fans from "Da Bears" guys from SNL.

You don't have to blindly hate all things "Gopher" to be a Sioux fan, you don't have to be a redneck hillbilly! I know that there are MANY (majority, I hope!) thoughtful, intelligent, and rationale Sioux fans - this thread just seems to be devoid of them.

Oh, and Sioux_Hab-it, I shouldn't have to go over to GPL to have intelligent hockey talk! Or don't we do that sort of thing here anymore???

  15. all right, the jig is up, you can quote me, "WE as Gopher fans are the most ignorant, arrogant, rude, unhsportsmanlike, crass, unknowlwedgable, and unappreciative hockey fans inthe world. The Gopher hockey team should be disbanded, our ties to the WCHA should be canceled, our Banners torched, our records, title and history expunged, and Marriucci razed. As further punishment, the Excel center should have its refridgerated flooring system removed and converted to a concert only venue so the FINAL FIVE can never be played there again. But that's not all, all revenue ever attained or projected future revenues that would have been collected by Gopher Hockey should be paid to UND as punishment for crimes against hockey and as a tribute to the greatest hockey team, program and fans ever created. Theys have a long history of perfection, infalability and complete supremessing in every aspect of hockey from on ice strategy to behvaior in the stands. I count myself as fortunate for being able to wtiness the UND hockey holiness. I opnly hope to one day touch the hem of your Sioux garments."

Honestly, some of the rubes here would NOT be satisfied with that - they'd also want you to hand over your children to foster parents in ND, and have your shaved head tatooed with the Sioux logo.

Perhaps a new thread should be started on a "wish list" of what all Sioux fans want "pstar" to do to make up for "Gopher crimes?"

    :glare:

  16. The heated rivalry stems from putting together a top team every single year. Our benchmarks for a successful season are frozen four appearances and national titles. Think how lucky we are!! Both us and the Gopher fans. I personally am ever hesitant to gloat too much over a win, because the tables are always turning. This year is no exception. If we meet again on Sunday it will be a coin flip. I am not going to gloat if we win, because I know how bad it sucks to lose, and a little puck luck, a bad line change, a stupid penalty, a bad call...its all part of the game. Anyone who blames any single player for a loss is nuts. It is a game of inches and seconds, and it is a team game.

As for booing Lammy, it is the nature of the beast. I don't think any rational or sober person would be booing out of disdain for his performance or his personality. He is probably the most emotional Sioux player on the ice, and so he is the player the fans love to hate. I used to boo Vanek, not because I didn't think he was talented, because he was a guy every school would want on your team, and he was wearing the wrong color jersey. It was easy to label him a loafer or a one way player and boo him, but deep down we all knew he was the real deal (34 lighters and leading the NHL in plus minus_)

Think how lucky both squads are, out of the last four or five years we have 2 budding NHL superstars in parise and vanek. Martin, Ballard, Leopold, Taffe, Bochenski, Zajac, Kessel, Greene, Commodore, Stafford all skating regular NHL shifts right now. Toews, Oshie, Chorney, Johnson, and Okposo could be joining those ranks next year.

Wow! No boos on this season, we've both had successdul ones so far by every other team in the leagues standard. One (or both)of us will be disppointed after this weekend.

Well said, yzerman19! A voice of reason in this thread!

Part of what I REALLY enjoy in college sports in general, and Sioux Hockey in particular, is the excitement, cheering and POSITIVE reinforcement in the fan response to quality play on the ice (or field/court). The nonsensical trash-talking between opposing fans, the out-of-control hatred of the opposition's team and fans, is adolescent and just makes a person look stupid.

So many "fans" lose sight of the fact that this is a SPORTING EVENT! It's supposed to be ENTERTAINMENT! I don't see Americans blast Al Qaeda with the kind of viotrolic hate that I see posted here about people/players/fans from Minnesota!

    SHEESH!

  17. There is absolutely no integrity in their program so why would anyone expect it from their fans. A waste of time to debate this one. :glare:

Congratulations for the dumbest post in this thread (an intense competition, I might add!)

    Sheesh!

  18. They are the nicest uniforms in college hockey. Personally, I think that they could do away with the "V" thing on them but they are still the nicest. The new black Nike ones are brutal. The best was the old "black ice" jersies that they wore with the geometric logo on them. Most brutal uniforms: Bowling Green, Denver (away - they used to be nice several years ago when they were reddish), Ohio State, Western Michigan...... the new Sioux "black ice" jersey. They look like a bunch of characters from "TRON." If you've seen that movie, you know what I'm talking about. Nike should be barred from assaulting all of us with its jersey designs.

Absolutely right! At the X this past weekend, seeing all of the different team jerseys being worn, NONE of them came close to the elegant beauty of the Sioux green! The colors and patterns are bright and distinctive, the logo itself a classic! How BORING to have a simple "M" or "W-I-S-C-O-N-S-I-N," or a script "St. Cloud" on your chest! I heard ALOT of Gopher fans complementing the Sioux logo and jersey, and encouraging us to keep the tradition and "fight the good fight!"

I hope that UND, and the state of North Dakota NEVER knuckle under to the bone-heads at NCAA! Hypocritical pinheads!

    GO SIOUX!!!!!!

  19. God are you people such hypocrites I mean like no Sioux fans at all went over board after the Gophers loss to Holy Cross game last year right!!!!!! I mean really lets face the facts Every College team and I mean even Sioux fans want there team to win against there rivals!!!!!!! but when there team loses anger gets the best of both sides and brings out A holes on either side, that is just facts!!!!! true there are brutal Gopher fans just as there rude Sioux fans but please spare me the he said she said BS and just be a better hockey fan and drop the drama and accept that it is all about everyone giving each other some @#$^ ok people its Hockey for Christ sakes........ :silly:

Hmmm ..... a voice of reason ..... THAT won't fly here!

You mean that ALL Gopher fans AREN'T deranged, drunken, illiterate, child-molesting, satanic anencephalics? How would one be sure, after reading all the keenly insightful, thoughtful analyses that we post here about them, based upon statistically significant sampling of said subjects?

And I had REALLY hoped that finally, a thread here wouldn't deteriorate into another Gopher-bashing. Wrong, again.......

  20. goofer fans travel well that is hilarious .........just when you know they are idiots they prove it again by saying something like that!

If goofer fans traveled well the state wouldn't have any fans (fans - just a phrase they are not hockey FANS) left in it because they wouldn't find the way home.

goofer fans are the most arrogant, foul mouthed, ignorant about hockey, say anything stupid to an opposing fan, fools as there is!

countless goofer fans proved it again last night from the time we left our seats until we got onto the freeway .............. #1 bush league fans UMTC

and yes the rouser is the worst so called cheer in all of sports soda soda soda soda soda

Um ..... DON'T hold back! Tell us how you REALLY feel! :silly:

  21. A Weird story, and I haven't heard it all yet, but the 2 Sioux fans that got kicked out were because they were fighting the 3 Gopher fans apparently. I know the 2 Sioux guys, but I didn't see what happend and haven't had a chance to talk to them. I just know there was a fight that started to break out.

Stories like this really pi$$ me off! Emotionally-charged PLAYERS on the ice sometimes lose their tempers, and drop the gloves ... and then, off they go to the penalty box. But some beer-soaked wannabes, wearing their team's jerseys, who can't control themselves at an ENTERTAINMENT outing like this, should be restricted to watching the TV at home, and busting up their livingroom furniture, rather than embarassing the very sports program that they profess to love.

All they do is make a$$es out of themselves, and, worse, bother the people around them, who paid good money to be entertained at the game. And I don't CARE who starts it - drunk and stupid is no way to go through life. Throw their arses out, or take them off to jail!
